Authentic Lebanese food. The chicken, lamb, and pita bread were fantastic. Having spent many years in the Middle East it's hard to find a restaurant which makes dishes perfectly. The service was nice and the atmosphere was just like being in Lebanon. Some people may say this is a rougher part of the Portland city but I felt safe coming and going. Would recommend and will be back.

What a downtown PDX gem! Cozy restaurant filled with life, great food and excellent service. We got the joy of seeing a family celebrate a marriage and live belly dancing. The menu has quite a sampling. The chicken schwarma with hummus was full of flavor. The baklava was homemade and not too sweet. Try the Lebanese hot tea...it was perfect on a PNW fall evening!

An incredibly welcoming restaurant where you feel like family. I have a lot of food sensitivities and they have so many incredible options that are gluten free! The food was delicious I especially loved the chicken and shrimp and their hummus is to die for. I love how warm everything feels inside. It feels like you're visiting family and getting a good meal every single time.

Ask the Community - Al-Amir Restaurant

Any suggestions as I'd like to take a friend to Al-Amir but she needs a walker and I noticed that they have only street parking?

Yes, there is only street parking, but there is also a paid parking lot next to the building that would be ideal for your friend with a walker.

My son treated me to flavors I've never experienced before. I didn't take pictures but it looks like there are plenty here already. We ate: Lamb Kabobs-tender meat delicious flavor. Something wrapped in Grape Leaves served with a dipping sauce-so mouth watering pleasant to every taste bud I wanted more, more, more! They serve a large, tortilla style, bread, the name escapes me, which I was able to use a variety of dips on, one a garlic mixture for dipping, I must have more! Each dip had its own flavor, cannot tell you what they were but lemon was used here and there, as well as other exotic spices. Every single thing I ate there opened with one completely satisfying flavor, and often changed to a secondary flavor that was equal too, or better than the first. Yum. The waitress was very informative and the service was efficient. The restaurant is decorated in a Middle Eastern style and it was lovely. I had their coffee. Now that was eye opening. The service they used was fancy and I truly developed an appreciation for that style-less is more, and perfect for the drive ahead. Oh! The Baklava- yes please. We had that later in the evening as there was no way to eat more at the end of the meal. Over all, I will say this: It is a restaurant I will go back too. My son treated me to a delicious meal with a man I love dearly.

Visited the one off Broadway and was able to find a table quickly for an early dinner. Service was kind and the food was good overall. Not quite the same experience and food that I remember from before but still good. The lamb schwarma was delicious like usual, but the chicken schwarma was unfortunately pretty dry. I think sometimes restaurants have a different level of quality or care for to go orders and I want to call that out. However, the food is quite expensive, and VERY disappointing. Things I ordered Pita bread - was extremely dry, leathery, un-chewable. Must have been stale. Dip mezza - hummus not smooth, no flavor, Lebneh was ok, baba ghanoush almost tasted of artificial smoke flavoring. Shatta - absolutely not shatta. It was oil with chopped herbs that has definitely gone bad. Again absolutely no flavor. Paid $5 for a tiny to go condiment cup of it! What a rip off. Falafel - meh. Lamp gyro - fiance thought it was ok, but also, very bland. There are so many good middle Eastern restaurants I will definitely never order from this restaurant again. It's really sad when you can tell that an establishment simply does not care about the quality or the culinary technique that goes into their food. Especially when they charge so much!

Standout dishes were the hangar steak as it was cooked perfectly and the sauce with it was amazing. The corn was also super flavorful!! Kebabs were soft, the salmon along with the plating and the sauce and veggies was good. The drinks were great too! The old aged whiskey was perfect. Seven-spice chicken, crunchy toum-dressed slaw, and a double hit of that garlicky toum. Topped with a pile of fries, just like on the beaches of Beirut. Let's get some bite into it. But even before that you can smell what will hit you next a delicious taste of garlicky sauce. And the first bite confirmed that. A not-too-overpowering garlic taste, followed by the crunchy pickle the salty fries and the delicious chicken patty, makes it an outstanding burger with a really unique flavor profile! Well done. The crunchy fresh Cole slaw give it another layer of freshness. The hole burger is a smart composition. If I'll have to recommend something to. Ale or even better would be to put the slaw on top of the meat. With it being on the bottom half of the bun it makes the bun quickly early soggy but that's is or taking away anything from how awesome the burger is taste wise. About ya hala if you want to make a quick break and vacation into Lebanon without here they play authentic music and have a nice decor putting you directly into a cafe in Beirut. One employee apologized for our "long wait" and offered us extra pita on the house, which was nice, although we honestly didn't feel like we had waited that long. The odd part was that the extra pita was never actually brought out. We didn't care enough to ask for it, but it was strange to offer something and then never follow through. Service overall was also pretty lacking. I tipped in the beginning (you pay before getting your meal) and was expecting decent service, but aside from someone bringing the food to our table, there really wasn't any. We ordered at the counter, got our own water cups and pitcher, and nobody checked on us during the meal. Since you order and pay upfront, it honestly felt like there wasn't much incentive for them to provide any service after. The food had some decent items, but between the underwhelming shawarma and almost nonexistent service, the experience was disappointing.

Reviewing the menu, there were lots of yummy things to choose from but ultimately we both could not resist the Lamb shank. I'm sad I didn't take a picture of it. It was so tender and delicious. It came with perfect Basmati rice and a side of eggplant stew that was exquisite! I've never had eggplant stew and it was luscious. I dream to about it all night long. My first impression as we entered here was: the AC was on, and I'm not ready for AC (yet), and the inside was too elegant, and empty. We waited awhile, when a staff appeared. We picked a seat outside, where the weather was pleasant and shady. I needed badly, to use the restroom, so I went back inside, only to be told it's outside. The mural on the walls, obscured the door to the restroom. But, there was no TP, no paper towel, and the trash was full. I had to use a toilet seat cover paper, for my TP, and went back to my seat, not happy with what I just did! I told my husband, who then told the staff, because HE need to use the restroom, too. (We've been gone all morning, this is now lunch hour). The staff gave water, menu and we ordered: The Lamb Shank. I love the eggplant stew! There's also a small salad with the Basmati rice. Also Chicken Kabob Mezza Platter with Pita bread. It was not until we're done eating, and ready to get up, did I notice there was cubed cucumber in the thaziki. But, it's got a very strong vinegar flavor, but I did like the hummus and the ghanoush. (When we eat at these places, we always pick the lamb shanks, btw). I had the other half, for my dinner tonight. The server was friendly, helpful and responsive. The atmosphere, was pleasant, and the photo taken of me, hubby thought I could pass as an Iraqi woman! LOL Thanks for the bag. We picked some crabapples, from down the street, there were 4-5 large trees ready for the pickin' from the sidewalk.
