I really appreciate the time and care they put on my car and I can't express happily enough. I went to them two years ago to fix up my lease car that had a huge rear ended dent. Now today they fixed my rocker panel like new! They're the best in the bay! Thank you!! Definitely recommend them!! read more

This is a really honest and reliable mechanic and charges very reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

We have been coming to AKW to repair our Honda Accord and Odyssey over 10 years. The price was always very reasonable. The brake pads were ordered from a Honda dealer. The repair was alway done in a few hours. I will keep coming here to fix my car. read more

Splendid service on my Nissan Quest! I had a bad experience at Milpitas auto repair shop where they recommended that I change the cooling system, costing me $1100, but I still had the same issue. I learned my lesson not to go back to that shop again. Thankfully, a friend recommended AKW and Master Wang. He is extremely experienced, and after I described my issue, he immediately suspected the thermostat/counter was the culprit, and he was right! He fixed it for under $200 bucks. Since then, he has been my go-to person for all my car issues. read more

I have always been to AKW for major maintenance and brake work of my two Toyota cars, even it is not very close to my home. Mr. Wang is very kind and skilled. This is a small busniess, very honest with reasonable price. Today I thought my brake may need some work so I dropped my car in the morning. Later on Mr. Wang told me the brake looked OK after inspection, and he even didn't charge me for the inspection. I'm always happy with their service. read more

I don't know about this place. Family has been coming here for years. But recently got my car fixed after hydroplaning into a sidewalk. Minor damages. First, my car was hella dirty from black oily fingerprints on seats and car door etc. my floor mats were dirty as hell. I know their mechanics but at least try to return my car close to the condition I brought it in. Rude Second, they said that my car was good to go in every aspect. Literally a week later my car hydroplanes again and I've been driving real careful ever since. A week later my coworker who knows cars checked my front tires and said those need to be changed right away. Their worn, not safe, and definitely look like they will hydroplane. Back wheels were still good. Price and flexibility in terms of time was the only thing they got going for them. But none of that matters when they put my life in danger and have dirty people working there. Avoid read more

We've received such thoughtful service from AKW auto!We dropped our car off for a battery replacement and later called back to see if we can have our maintenance done as well since it's been a while(probably a bit over-due). On the other side of the phone, they told us that they've checked while the car was there and notice the car was due for some maintenance, so they've done it for us. We were very pleased with the experience and would highly recommend this place to anyone! read more

AKW Auto... what can I say? They do an amazing job and are probably one of the last honest auto body shops out there. They clearly describe what your options are and do not recommend you any unnecessary repairs unless it is in your best interest (i.e., we're already pulling out your engine. Might as well change the timing belt). I've had my car fixed there (both mechanically and body) numerous times. My entire family goes there. I've recommended friends to go there and they were happy with the outcome. If my dog could drive, he'd be going there too. read more

Just moved my son from LA and heard about Master Wang's reputation. So called the AAA today to tow LS400,1996 dead engine from Santa Clara to San Jose. 30 min was a little far but worth it. 11;00am arrived and ready to pickup 4:00pm. Replaced the fuel pump and price is reasonable. Can not be wrong with this honest shop. read more

First time I came here for replacing all the shocks/struts on my car, I was indecisive about keeping the car or replacing it. Most places quoted me $800-$1,000. AKW was way less and used the same parts the other shops were using. I was skeptical but made an appointment anyway. My car is a good 2003, 186k+ miles on the odometer so I have been aware of many things that could go wrong easily and could be expensive to fix. It hasn't given me issues in the 12 years of ownership so frankly, it is high-time due for replacements on some original parts. Seeing another customer's pristine 2002/3 VW GTI in their shop with 400k miles on the odometer easily swung me into believing mine still has a lot of life left. I've had my car towed here 2x and each time they've brought it back to life very quickly and very inexpensively. Each time has been for a part that had been with the car since it left the factory and obviously, should have been replaced around 90k - 100kwhen most parts wear out. Can't blame them for failing after outliving their lifespan by so much. Mr Wong and his team have consistently been fantastic with bringing my car back quickly and very inexpensively. They may charge lower prices than other shops because of the language barrier. Only Michael seems to speak English. read more

Just noticed a post by Spencer L. and I have to make some clarification: - I was that guy met with him at the shop on that day and I am not his friend. - He works for an internet website buying all sorts of used cars. My car was totaled and I sold it to him on that day. - The people at the shop were trying their best to save my car. Even finally it had to be towed away, they didn't charge me any overnight parking fees. read more

AKW Auto - Best auto shop around - Body Shops Near Me - San Jose, California

This has got to be the best automotive mechanic experience I've ever had. The shop is owned by a man named Master Wong. Yes, Master Wong. Not Mister Wong. If you call him Master Wong, I believe things will go much more smoothly for you. I had to have my IACV taken out, deep cleaned and reinstalled. Granted this is a procedure I could have done myself, but it's one that takes many hours as well as the know-how to remove components in your car that you may not be willing to take out by yourself. In the end, it cost me $100. Try going to a Midas and my estimate was over $300. Master Wong also informed me of other things he noticed with my car that may cause problems. He gave me the most cost effective and safe solutions possible (I checked with other mechanics of the same problem to see). I'd totally recommend going here to get your car fixed. Just a note, I spoke Mandarin with him and it does help out a bit. Just a tidbit of information for you. read more

I have known AKW for more than 10 years now... Although it's quite far from my house (both old and new locations), I just keep going back! You can't beat it, they do a better job than competitors, at a much lower price!!! Talking about money, in my experience their price is around 80% to 90% of other shops. I'm talking about identical jobs if you go compare the prices. This DOES NOT include AKW's honesty about their estimates. That is, like every other reviewer said, they will not talk you into changing something you don't need. In fact, they will convince you that you should just keep your old parts because it's more economical that way. I used to have a 1993 Camry, and they told me since the car won't last too long at this point, they only recommended necessary repairs, and they even found used parts (but reliable) to save me money. Needless to say, the car is still in great condition now and I'm sure it'll keep running for a while with the great care from AKW. With this in mind, your savings at AKW will often be 60 to 80% of other shop's prices because of Wang Shi Fu's no-BS approach. Just this month, they estimated a $500 repair for my new car, and I accepted the estimate. But the prices came out to be $420 because they said one of the mounts was still okay so there was no need to change it. How many auto shop will ever say that to you????? I accepted the $500 estimate, they could've changed the mount and earn an additional $80, but they chose not to! (btw, besides being economical, this is also very environmental-friendly). On a side note, yes we do call him Wang Shi Fu. But, this Shi Fu does not mean Master... the second Chinese character is different... it's also pronounced as Shi Fu, but in English it means 'master' (without capital M), to indicate people with special expertise such as an auto worker or even a barber. So... please brush up your Chinese before you leave a review about it on Yelp... read more

Honesty is worth every dollar. And here at AKW, they strive to give you the honest answer with cheapest cost. If you're looking for performance parts, then you might want to check out a tuner or a speciality dealer. But the fact is the vast majority of daily drivers that just want to fix that fender bender or save some bucks on an outrageous dealer quote, AKW is here to please. I've been coming here for the past ten years. I refer all my friends to this auto-mechanic and body shop. I mean ALL MY FRIENDS. I carry their business cards in my wallet. That's how much confidence I have in Wong-shi Fu and his amazing staff. Plus they have a cute puppy to greet you when you pay. All my cars are serviced here. Wong-shi fu specializes in the non-BS approach. He'll given you an honest assesment and quote with no charge on service like those dealership basterds ($75/hr). AKW all the way. read more

Easily the best auto mechanic shop I have ever used. The people that work here are hard working and very honest. I have never had a bad experience bringing my car here to have repairs done. So I've had oil changes done here, brake pads replaced, tires rotated, and more that I'm probably forgetting. They only charge you on the repairs that are necessary, and they do not overcharge you for anything. The oil changes are really easy for me, I just drop off the car and then come back at a later time when it's finished. They will also notify you of any other serious issues that they find if any. If you speak and understand mandarin the process will go a lot smoother for you, just FYI. read more

My car got dinged up (brutal paint scratch) at work a couple of months ago. I had to pay out of pocket because for some odd reason... just for that night, the company security tape was not looking at the parking lot :( I went to a couple body shops for estimates and AKW has the best offer. Initially I was a bit worried about the quality of the paint job since AKW is so much cheaper than the other body shops I compared with. But as it turns out, it was some silly worries. The paint looks good and they finish the job in a very timely manner. Would have given it a 5 star but the interior of the car is a bit dirty. There were some leafs and gravels in the car. read more

Mr.Wong and other shi-fu's at the shop are extremely honest and they always charge at a fair price. My mom introduced this place to me as she heard about it from the Chinese radio. When I came here to get an oil change, Mr.Wong said he does not change oil for cars, but changed for me anyway, since my engine light was also on. He told his pupil to fix up something for me, I had no idea what he did, but everything (including the oil change) came down to $30. This would be at least $150 at oil changer. My engine light lit up twice after that (yes it is an old car); though, they were not big issues; the light lit up mostly because the car is quite old. They did not charge and told me what I should do to maintain the car, and let me go. If this was any other place, they would have made up some bullshit to cheat me because I'm a young woman by myself. read more

Excellent pricing, service, and turnaround time. Had to get my front bumper replaced and Simon and Ken helped us. They matched the price of another body shop and delivered the car two days later, a day ahead of schedule. It looks great and they put the stickers from the original Toyota parts on the invoice. I haven't had any mechanical work done but they were honest and efficient. Definitely recommend. read more

The engine light showed up on my 1999 BMW and I took it to AKW Auto. I searched the internet and it suggested many possible causes which the most likely one would be Vano Seal leaking because it used to have the issues of idle speed reduction and stalling at cold start. I prepare to spend sizable money to have it fixed. AKW took less than one minute checking the code and told me it was carbon buildup and suggested me to use 91 fuel instead of 85 from now on and they cleared the code, no fixing needed. I really appreciated the profession of the AKW mechanics! In the past, there was oil leaking and I took it to Stevens Creek BMW several times costed several thousand dollars replacing many parts one by one except the engine seals, without fixing the leak. At the end, I took it to small shop and they fixed the oil leak by replacing engine seals. I complained to Stevens Creek BMW manager and they didn't address their low quality service issue, simply gave me a free oil change coupon, which I never used it because I never trust them anymore. read more

I came into this place to help my friend out and they were immediately rude to me telling me to "wait outside!" Until my friend arrived, so I did. When he got there I walked into the shop with him and the shop owner started speaking to him in mandarin and yelling at me with words I didn't understand. It was later translated that he was yelling racial bigotry. He then asked for my ID. When I asked why he needed that, he said "you want to come in my shop?! You give me your ID!" When I showed him who I was he then told my friend other nasty words about me in Mandarin and told me I shouldn't be trusted. I did absolutely nothing to piss these guys off. They were incredibly rude. read more

My 97 Camry's Check Engine light kept on coming on for a while now. I get a free code reading from Jiffy Lube during oil change but they don't provide that kind of car repair. I put this repair on hold. Then, this check engine light warning has resulted my recent smog test to fail. The smog check guy told me that I have to get the car fixed so he can re-check it for me when the light go off. I went to a few mechanics located on s Winchester Blvd near Campbell, all the mechanics asked for 80 ~ 105 dollar to do simple diagnosis after I show them the code I got from Jiffy Lube. All of them told me that it was impossible to estimate the repair cost until they run diagnosis on my car and they claimed that it will be at least 300 to fix the problem. One of the mechanics even offer me USD 1,000 to buy my car and claim that it might cost more to fix it. I walked away from these mechanics since California offers anyone USD 1,000 if you should retire your car. Thus, this offer is a real rip off. And it always cost at least USD 2,500 to buy any car from the street. My friend recommended AKW Auto to me and told me that it is one of the most honest mechanics in Bay Area. I was about to retire my car but I decide to give it one last try. I drove to this car repair this afternoon and the mechanics help me to diagnose the problem on the street. Then, the senior mechanic/owner told another mechanic to check my fuel cap and try to tighten it. He opened engine hood, stopped and restarted the engine and did visual check and listen to the engine sound. Then, he told me that I need to go to Toyota Dealer to buy a replacement fuel cap. There is nothing to repair. He then walked back to his shop without even asking me for any fee. I was totally shocked and I followed him to his shop to confirm what I just heard. Yes. I heard correctly. Nothing to fix other than replacing the fuel cap. I returned to my car and I noticed that the check engine light was gone. I drove home and told my wife about my experience. We were happy that we don't need to spend 20K on a new car. But we feel that we should do something to endorse this honest car repair shop. I will definitely recommend this repair shop to everyone I know. read more

Awesome service. The owner, Ken, is really funny and very nice. I think he runs this shop with his family, or more like his two sons (?). I came here to get my car tuned up and get a coolant flush and Ken took care of everything to perfection. The owner is so nice! What is important is that you can trust him. I had obvious dent at the back and side panels of my van. I know it is expensive to fix but I cannot stand not fixing it. My car is just a few years old. I have checked a couple places to have an idear what would be a reasonable price. AKW gave me an obvious better price and I have picked them as they are much cheaper and have good reviews. Once the work is done. It looks perfect and I cannot tell any damage before. And the owner even charge me a lesser amount than he estimated. Can you believe that? I also noted he fix another place near to the dent where we did not discussed before. The owner is so honest and with strong skills. He is talking confidently and the results of his works proved what he told the customers. I also had car repairs works done by him for my older car. I don't write and/or comment much on Yelp -- but, concerning "AKW Auto" in San Jose. I had been living in the San Jose down town area for over 4 years from 2009 thru 2013 (even though I currently leave in Newark, CA - Fremont area) During that time of when I was actually living in downtown San Jose, and currently still even now, I will make the drive down to "AKW Auto" to get my Subaru Forester taking care of. I am not Asian and I do not speak mandarin -- and it never really mattered to me. The Auto shop owner (the big guy) is a good man & I trust him.
