I saw Dr. Rafla after being told my dental implant post of 22 years had failed. This was quite scary to me, but Dr. Rafla did an amazing job of removing the old implant. He put bone dust in the area for healing, and after new bone growth had occurred, had installed a new implant post. Throughout it all, Dr. Rafla had a high degree of professionalism and empathy. He made this difficult transition not only possible, but much more comfortable than expected. I see some people have complained about the billing people, and I had similar problems with the old office staff. Dr. Rafla left that office perhaps 8 months ago, and much of his staff have followed him. The new office has different billing practices and I am comfortable with them. I would come back to see Dr. Rafla at any time. He is the best. read more

I originally came to Dr Rafla in 2021 for an implant. I live in CT and I wasn't able to get an appointment in my area. Dr Rafla was recommended so I called. I got an appointment with a couple days. The implant was perfect and Dr Rafla is amazing. I have a dentist in Connecticut but I continue to see Dr. Rafla every six months for a cleaning and check up. The hygienists do an amazing job. My cleanings at Dr Rafla's office just feel cleaner than my regular dentist. I end up paying out of pocket, but it's worth it for the cleaning and the check up. read more

While Dr Rafla is a fine dental surgeon, the payment he requires is to my mind, exorbitant. He charges a base price of $4,300 for extraction and implant but tacks on ex-rays for over $300.00 and cleanings for $190 each. I think they should be included. When you go there it is explained to you, but you may be in pain or other distress and not really focusing on the costs keep this in mind if you choose him. It adds up fast! read more

This is not the Dr. you want. My implant has been nothing but trouble. I am now on my 3rd repair- this time a replacement. These issues are expensive and painful and when I expressed my feelings ( in a very professional way ) I was told perhaps it was time to find a new dentist. The staff is not very nice, and I believe this is due to a trickle down effect form a doctor who cares more about quantity then quality. read more

Had 2 implants done. First one failed and ruined the 1200 dollar crown in front. Took ten months and had to do crown over. The implant cost 4500 dollars. i then had the other front tooth done by Dr Rafla. Two years after examining the older implant it began to bleed and was loose. Rafla attempt to pull out the 'permanent with pliers instead of a special tool designed to remove buried abutments. he wants to charge 500 to remove the broken buried abutment buried in my jaw. Another 4500 dollars to place another one without the 1200 crown. Very greedy and negligent. Taking me to collections for the price of stopping the bleeding. Do not let this guy near your teeth. Ask what the warranty is. All other providers have a life time warranty. this guy has none. DO NOT LET HIM NEAR YOUR TEETH!!!!! read more

Dr Rafla, is a very competent professional care giver that ALWAYS, has his patient's well being in mind. The staff, is very polite and knowledgeable, and will assist you with any questions or concerns, about billing or payment methods. Dr Rafla's services may be a bit more than other providers, but his results is well worth the extra pennies. read more

If you're looking for someone to overcharge you and not really provide the same service that other periodontists in town can and will proved, then Dr. Rafla's office is the place for you. They charged more for a 20 minute consultation than other local Dr's and then don't credit it to you if you decide to go through with the procedure. Then to continue the insults, they'll charge you to release your records. Greedy, much? I guess dentist's just don't make enough for this guy. read more

My husband went in for a free consultation. He asked again when he went into the office if this appt. was free. He had no x-rays or exam. We continually receive a bill for $142.00 for this free appointment, and are being told they do not do free consultations although the website states differently DO NOT GO read more

Outstanding periodontal care from a compassionate professional.

It was a big mistake going here for dental treatment. Dr. Rafla deviated from the plan that was written (without my permission) and did his own thing which cost me an extra $3000. Dr. Rafla has no people skills and treats you like dirt because he thinks he is almighty with all his degrees. He OVERCHARGES and does not care about you, only getting as much money out of you as he can. Take my advice and STAY AWAY! Find a dentist that cares about you and not how much money you have. He charged me for missing an appointment because I did not give 48 hours notice, a few months later they cancelled my appointment on the same day I was supposed to go in and that was OK (for which I had already taken time off from work.) They will not accomidate your schedule. There are plenty of good Periodontists, stay away from here!!! read more

I tried to make a consoltaion apt (cost ~$130.00) which was fine I dont mind paying for the time to talk to the dentist to see if they can meet my needs. But they would not even consider letting me make an apointment without paying 260+ dollars for X-rays just to see if the dentist can even provide me the services I need. read more

Very disappointing visit. Please get a second opinion before you start any treatment with him both from treatment and cost perspective.

I was referred to Dr.Rafla by my dentist. Had all my xrays for him . He wasn't interested in them because he couldn't diagnosis my problem without doing his own xrays . He never told me the cost was $270 dollars. After 20 special xrays he comes in says u need deep scale cleaning which I've had done twice by another periodontist. Strange Dr Rafla was unable to diagnose my problem using my xrays that were taken a week before I saw him. I feel he is sneaky and all about money . I canceled all appointments with him. If you go to this doctor for treatment make sure you know what he charges before you EVER step foot in his office read more

I was dreading the crown lengthening procedure I needed to get done. Dr. Rafla and his staff made it quick & as painless as possible.

I was referred to Dr. Rafla by a friend who raved about his services. I needed an implant and was putting it off for awhile. I am so glad that I went to see Dr. Rafla. The office does not look like an office at all. It is so warm and welcoming. His assistants are very sweet and answered all my questions. Dr Rafla was so sweet, he answered all my questions, he did not rush me, and even went over different treatment options. After the consult/exam was done. I was checkout by his front desk staff and one of them even sat with me to go over my treatment options, my insurance benefits, and estimates of what my insurance should cover and what would be my responsibility. This was the icing on the cake because I expected them to tell me they will call me in a few weeks after they contact insurance like most offices do. But for them to have all the info on hand saved me time because I was able to schedule my procedure right at that moment. My procedure went great! I am so happy with my smile now! If you have any periodontal issues going on in your mouth, get it check out right away. Your mouth plays a huge roll in your overall health. I highly recommend Dr. Rafla to anyone who needs an implant. read more

I changed my review because after call my insurance I think that Delta Dental was confusing and not clear the way they cover for their services. Also I am responsible in some way as I should check all the charges and questioning my insurance in what was going to be paid or not. read more

I also agree with the other complaints about Dr Rafla being greedy. He spent 15 minutes doing my $3,000+ gum graft procedure and couldn't even be bothered to check me when I came in for my post op appointment. I called complaining about the pain and discoloration after one week of having the procedure and he still couldn't be bothered to even look at my gums. His young hygenist, who was very nice, asked Dr Rafla to check me but he was too busy to be bothered with me. He had already cashed my personal check so he was on to the next sucker I guess. Also I must tell you to check your dental claim when it arrives in the mail because this office double bills by billing both you and your dental insurance. I had to visit and call repetitively to get my money back after I found out my insurance paid them. They billed me $1400 stating my insurance would only pay them $1700 of the $3000+ bill when actually I only owed Dr Rafla $64.08 total for my procedure. I obviously have very good dental insurance so beware of Julie, his financial expert who discusses the billing with you. She is not in charge of the insurance money when it arrives in the mail. Someone else takes care of that which makes it very confusing for the patient because they just pass the buck! All I can say is do your research. I did not. I trusted my dentist's recommendation which I will not do again. Good Luck! read more

I have no complaints about the services received from Dr Rafla. He was kind and attentive for the 20-25 minutes that I saw him between three appointments. When I arrived for my first of three appointments I was brought into a back office and my benefit was explained to me IN DETAIL. I was told my responsibility would be $2,300 after insurance makes a $1,000 payment. I paid $1,000 up front and took out a Care Credit loan for another $1,000 before having the services. The remainder was to be billed to my insurance and processed. Come to find out Autumn in Dr Rafla's Northboro office provided me with the In Network benefit while the office was Out of Network for my plan. As a Billing Manager of a large medical practice I am aware of the insurance benefit and claim adjudication process. I did not feel as though I needed to re-verify my benefit after leaving the office since it was printed out in front of me and described to me by Autumn. I was told my insurance would pay the $1,000 and I believed this woman knew what she was talking about, and so I took her word for it. The claim processed out of network and I've been receiving a bill for $1,300 for months, then I was sent to Collection. I've had numerous conversations with office administrators and with the woman Autumn who initially explained my benefit (incorrectly) to me and each time I'm given hope that they will consider their mistake and cut me some slack (as I've already paid $2,000!), only to call back a couple weeks later to re-explain the issue all over again (like she doesn't remember?!). Complete run-around. I'm very disapointed by the way this has turned out. I was referred to Dr Rafla by my dentist who is a family friend of mine, I will not be returning. If you go to this office (or any office), don't take their word for what will and will not be your financial responsibility. I will be submitting a complaint to the Dept of Public Health Division of Health Professionals Licensure. read more
