The stylist, Christiana, did an excellent job and my mom was pleased!! My mom even enjoyed the shampoo!! So this was my first time at the salon. I explained I wanted a wash and set. When I asked how much…read moreit would cost I was quoted $50 and later found out that as a new client I was to receive a $10 discount which I did not. When the stylus introduced herself to me I explained that I was natural and had no chemicals in my hair. That I wanted a wash & set and pen curl. I asked her blow dry my roots once I came from under the hairdryer and she explained that she would lightly use a hot comb to straighten my roots. That should given her enough information to know how to manage my hair. The first clue that I knew this was not going to be a good fit for my was when the stylus was having difficulties roller setting my hair. Prior to roll a setting she washed my hair with hot water which is a no-no for natural hair.if you know anything about natural hair hot water makes your hair frizzy. The second clue is after my hair was washed I recognize that all customers in the salon were all seniors and the only equipment on each stylist area was Hot irons and hot curlers. After staying under the dryer for 45 minutes the stylus checked on me and realize my hair still was not totally dry I suggested to use the blow dryer to dry the rest of my hair as I explained to her I was not feeling well and was very hot under the dryer but she insisted for me to stay for another two minutes which I did it. When I return back to her chair I asked why my hair was so stiff and crunchy as that is not how I wear my hair. She explained that she was going to use the straightening iron to straighten my roots and that how she does it was going to pull my hair out and then pin curl me. Needless to say she caught a little attitude because I was questioning her on the condition of my hair and became quiet and she started to pin curl my hair. I did explain to her that when I get my hair done at a Dominican salon my hair is not this tight she explain how they put so much heat on your hair and I explain to her no not in my case as I explain to them how I want my hair done which is not to place a lot of heat on so my hair they just blowdry the roots so that I have a flat look and then pin curl my hair. So I left the salon and NOT to my surprise I have a head full of tight curls with a bunch of products and damp hair. So my advice is not to have your hair done at this salon unless you have a perm or you need to have your hair done with Old school techniques.

I've seen Kris for about the past year for blowouts and makeup applications for a variety of events, photo shoots and theater performances. Kris listens carefully to the service you want. Whenever I've shown reference photos, she re-creates them flawlessly. With makeup, I love the lash application she includes and the long-staying wear of the makeup products she applies. She's also extremely efficient, and after the first visit, she perfected my look and made each subsequent appointment easy, quick and simple. I recently visited for a headshot package she offered, where a professional photographer took new photos in her studio after I received hair and makeup treatment. I really appreciated Kris during the shoot, as she offered tips for posing and even touched up my hair and clothing to help me get the perfect shots. Her vast experience as an editorial stylist and big event artist (weddings, glam, etc.) has really provided her with an expert eye that made the photo shoot even more successful. If you're looking for hair and makeup you can trust to look great, I'd highly recommend Kris in Alexandria.

This review is way overdue because I had my make-up done by the "Melanin Matcher" herself, Ms. Heather, and she did a fabulous job - no, phenomenal job! Why the name "Melanin Matcher?" Glad you asked! Chile, she can literally match ANY skin color/type (and I do mean ANY) to the correct foundation that complements your skin! Guaranteed...No Lie! For the ladies that have tried to get their foundation matched up to their skin tone, you know how difficult that can be. Heather has mastered the science of figuring this out for us! Yesssss!!! Since I follow The Image Concierge on Instagram, I knew she was the perfect person to do my make-up for an upcoming event. I booked my appointment online and any questions I had, I was able to have them answered via email. You have the option of going to Heather's in-home studio or her/staff member coming to your home (for an additional price). I opted for Heather to come to my home. A down payment was required and I was set. She arrived promptly on time and we hit it off instantly. Heather has a very warm and welcoming spirit and her vision for my make-up was spot on with my cocktail attire. As stated before, she did a PHENOMENAL job! We talked about a variety of skincare products, make-up options I could do on my own, and brands that aren't often sought after but are really good. A few months later she had a special make-up presentation at her home and she invited me to attend...just a classy and business savvy lady. I can tell she appreciates her clients and I definitely appreciate her! She's doing big things in the make-up game and I'm glad she was able to assist me on my look that evening. I received many compliments. Thanks again Heather, you made me shine that night. SN: I need to make another appointment, even if I don't have an actual event to attend. I'll just be cute while I'm scrubbing the tub or mopping my kitchen floor. Ha!
