I came here on referral from Dr. T ... I was having constant foot pain for months and just thought…read moreI had pulled a muscle or something, and that it would go away. It didn't. It got worse. We though that what I had was plantar fasciitis :/ So I did what he recommended .. wear inserts in my shoes, no heels :(, only sneakers. And to roll a frozen water bottle under my foot .. which btw .. hurts until the ice numbs your arches .. Moving forward .. I was referred to Dr. Yees' office where I saw Dr. Karen Yamaguchi. The front desk gals are sweet and very helpful. They even have a bowl of candy at the front for you taking pleasure :D My appointment was at 2pm, I waited maybe 20-30 minutes ... she was still with her last patient. And honestly the wait I didn't mind at all. The waiting room is pretty lounge action lol When I was called in back, I waited only 2 minutes and there she was!! :) Dr. Yamaguchi is a hoot!! She nearly died when I told her my work heels are stilettos ... You can't not work in town and not own pairs of stilettos for work! You can't beat my argument .. Anywho, turns out I have tarsal tunnel ... did you just say 'What?' ... cause I gave her that face when she said it. Even told me to google it. In short, she said it's like having carpal tunnel .. with the constant shooting pain and the joint freezing type thing ... but with my arch, heel and ankle. I was in pain so it pretty much was what ever you throw at me I'll do type of thing. She gave me a choice ... either a boot or a night splint. But, told me why she wouldn't chose the night splint. It would only help relieve the pain at night, keeping my foot in a straight up position to promote healing. She said I would benefit from the boot instead. What I didn't expect was the boot to look so big :/ I look like I had a skiing accident hahahaha!! it also doesn't look heavy .. but once it was on, I couldn't feel any pain at all ... it was also a little heavy and my other leg is over compensating since the boot is like 3 inches high ... I'm going to mention here that I had NO shoes or heels that are 3 inches lol ... got those thick 'slippahs' now .. so I'm walking slowly and as evenly as I can. Also gave me a script for Prednisone for the swelling ... It's helped so far. Forgot to put it on before bed last night and boy! I can tell the difference .. I could hardly walk when I got up. Lesson learned folks ... I see her again in 3 weeks so keep your fingers crossed!!!! Anyone wanting to graffiti my boot is more than welcome to :D ** edit note ... Dr. Yee shares an office with other doctors there .. his number is (808) 591-0020

Without gloves or warning or pain medication, he came at my toe with giant clippers and shaky hands. I was pulling my foot away and told him how much it hurt and he laughed. He gave me less than 3 minutes of his time, and laughed at all my questions about why it was green, what I could do to help it grow in normally, if I should wear a bandaid or not. I felt like I lead the appointment. Huge waste of time and a medical bill. Time to retire!

The staff was super friendly and everything was clean and the exam room has a beautiful view. I have no complaints whatsoever and truly feel well taken care of.

So glad there is a Honolulu office now!…read more We all know diabetics need to take care of their legs and feet. Here is a tale as old as time... Took my dad to see them for his diabetes and a wound he had on his leg. I told my dad not to close the car door, just sit in his wheel chair while I put his walker away... but no. Elderly never listen. While sitting on his wheel chair, he ends up closing the door on his on his own shin and blood spewing out of a dime size hole onto his socks and dripping on the floor. Aigoooo...WTF, Dumba$$ Bakatare! He got me so mad I started speaking Korean, Text speak, and Japanese all at once. Now I'm just thinking of more doctor appointments I need to drive to near and far... near being in town... far being kailua. Anyway, a few days passed and our pain management doctor in Kalihi said I should look into getting it checked because it may be eschar. The scab was all black and worrying us... I'm just filled with rage toward my dad at this point. All I know is, don't take these small things lightly. These small wounds could turn into big things if not taken care of properly. I'm seeing a dime size wound turning into a leg amputation. Am I over reacting... maybe... but better to be 'sorry not sorry' than to be 'sorry for real sorry.' So I took my dad to Dr. Tsubata in town and he treated my Dad's leg wound and advised us on how to care for it. (Bandages, healing gels, amount of changes, etc) The wound healed over a couple weeks. And all my anxiety and rage subsided. As for me, I bought some nice orthotics for my shoes. My arches have never looked and felt better while pushing a wheel chair. Thank you Dr. Tsubata!

When I arrived for surgery, I was told by one of the nurses, that I was lucky, he was the best surgeon, and she worked with all of them. After surgery, I read reviews, and chuckled...they were about his bedside manner and none were about his skill level. I'd rather have the best doctor, who's a little cocky, than the worst, who's as nice Mr. Rogers.

I still have pain but it's tolerable and manageable now and I can work full days. Dr. Kaan is not the warm and fuzzy type but when it comes to surgery his work is incredible. I've been apart of support groups and seen a lot of surgery pictures and he's extremely accurate and he bends the the hardware to match a more natural curve so it's not so straight that it causes more pain. My scar is actually beautiful and he takes extra time to make that happen. I had Kaiser at the time and Kaiser dropped the ball on my pre and post care. I didn't do enough due diligence on my part but it was frustrating. They were supposed to take me off birth control and I ended up with blood clots. The hospital put me on thinners too soon causing hematomas all up and down my spine and they didn't take me seriously when I told them something was very wrong. My husband had Dr. Kaan come in and there was a debate on what to do. They ended up putting in a DVT filter but never checked my lungs or anything. Once I got home I couldn't recover and then they found the PE's in my lungs so that was pretty scary stuff. It felt like Kaiser and his office had very poor communication but at the end of the day I am alive and well and the work Dr. Kaan did was worth the battle. The only thing I would have done differently is be more prepared myself and ask more questions and understand the real risks and what to do in case complications happen. You really have to take some responsibility when it comes to your health because doctors are just people too and a lot of them are over worked and doing the best they can. Always have an advocate stay with you. My husband saved me so many times I lost count. My brain was pretty messed up for a while and I couldn't figure out what was what. Like I was in a foggy dream and timeline's didn't exist. If you get a good nurse be extra kind to them and communicate about the details of this surgery. I looked like a normal, young, healthy female so sometimes they didn't understand the severity of the surgery I just had and my husband had to be there just to make sure they moved me gently and not like a rag doll. I grew 2 inches and somehow it caused a hiatal hernia that made it almost impossible to stand for a while. Kaiser told me it was just acid reflex and I knew for sure it was something else. I was so disappointed with Kaiser I actually switched my insurance and I'm glad I did. Kaan is not with Kaiser just to be clear. They contract him out. He's 100% the right man for the job. Just remember he's focused on the mechanics and keeping you alive and I am fine with that. The rest is a collective effort that includes yourself. Lessons learned!

When your body speaks to you, listen. Especially when you get older…read more I'm on my feet a lot and have experienced several foot/leg issues where eventually it was resolved. But step in diabetes, where overlooking issues under this condition can be tragic. Just last week at my part time job, a customer came in and I recognized his voice as he's a regular. But I didn't immediately recognize him as he lost a lot of weight and clearly had mobility issues. When I blurted out his name, indeed it was him. He told me he was diabetic and ignored a toe injury where a life-changing procedure slowed him down. For a couple of weeks now, I had what seemed like a blister on one of my toes where it now became 2. It was painful to walk in shoes and when I showed it to family members where one is doing her residency at a large hospital and my sister has been an RN for over 30 years, was told it could be either a blister, callous or wart. I, too, am diabetic and fears crossed my mind. My sister strongly suggested I have it investigated immediately. Step in Ricky Sukita (RS). RS is a podiatrist who has been in practice for over 35 years. Located in Kuakini Physician's Exchange, the office of RS is on the 11th floor. It was so nice to make an appointment where his staff immediately answered the phone when I called. Their records show this wasn't my first time to the office, but I was impressed on the service and professionalism extended to me. I addressed to the staff of my issue and after confirming my address and health insurance plan, I was escorted to an empty office where several minutes later RS showed up. Words cannot express my relief where it was disclosed my issue was callous development. I've had warts before where it was painful and took a long time to resolve. After assessing my regular work and leisure regimen, RS explained of my current condition and how this came all about. He also advised me how to handle this situation and provided me with protection. I appreciated how he informed me and educated me where I understood and didn't feel incompetent that led to my condition. Overall, solid 5-stars to RS and his staff. From making the appointment to walking out of the office after my appointment, there weren't hassles nor stress. I understand RS is taking new patients. If you're looking for a podiatrist, look no further.
