Love AKA! I have been seeing the owner, Kelsey, for many years and she is the best. She has saved my bleached blonde hair from so much damage, and recovered me from impulse home color jobs... The salon is beautiful, and the vibe is so friendly and fun! read more

Went in for a few highlights and the stylist recommended a balayage. Spent 5 hours there just for the stylist to tell me to "come back next week so she could fix it", before I even saw my hair. Since the hair was so different from the inspiration photo, I came back the next week to hopefully get it fixed. I ended up with hair that looks just like my natural color. Thankful that she decided to fix it for free, but that should be expected. The stylist was nice but I was not impressed with the management. I've attached my before and after photos, along with my inspo photo from Pinterest. Contacted the manager to hopefully get a refund, as I am a college student who saved up for this. After going back and forth, I was finally reimbursed $50, which I do not believe was adequate compensation. Again, the stylist was very sweet. I was just not expecting to spend so much money on hair that doesn't look any different. read more

From the moment I called AKA Salon and spoke to Meghan, I knew I was in capable hands. I called in a bit of a panic, facing what I can only describe as a "hair emergency." Having visited from out of town, I made the unfortunate decision to try another salon, only to leave with a less-than-desirable outcome (understatement of the century). Meghan, without hesitation, requested photos and expertly paired me with the perfect stylist, Rene. Rene is a master hairstylist, colorist, and color-correction specialist. Despite his hectic schedule, he managed to squeeze me in and performed nothing short of a miracle. I am profoundly grateful to both Rene and Meghan for coming to my rescue. I cannot recommend Rene highly enough for his mastery of color, cuts, and style--this guy is the BEST. I plan to travel from Michigan back to AKA Salon just to have Rene cut and color my hair - consider me a client for life! read more

I follow my hairdresser everywhere and his new home is AKA salon. The salon itself has a very cool modern vibe and the wash bowls are at the stylists stations making it very convenient. If you're in the neighborhood stop by and make an appt with the best colorist in town Rene Antonio! He is the only person who has touched my hair in 28 years. I don't trust anyone else with my color but him. I bring all my friends with horrible color nightmares to Him to correct. What he is able to do is magic! read more

Rene is one of the best stylists at AKA salon. The entire salon staff is professional, kind and the salon is very clean and bright. Rene will deliver A+ service to his clients. He listens and wants his clients to leave happy. He especially follows hair color trends and stays current, yet still will provide service to his clients to leave with classic styles/color/cut. He is able to deliver the best blond variations upon request: ashy, cool, warm, honey etc. but will match perfectly to one's natural complexion. read more

Kelsey is really good at every service she offers! Hair color, eyelash extensions, hair extensions, cut, color correction...no problemo! I first came to her based on google search over a decade ago at the other location, now have been coming to the Newport location for the past year. It's very cute and clean and they offer drinks while you're in the chair. My first appointment with Kelsey was me bringing her a nightmare of an at home hair color screw up And she had no problem correcting and I loooooved what she did and her funny personality. She was also quick. What used to take others 4-5 hrs of me sitting in the chair, she did in 2! It was a match made in heaven - I have been a client ever since! read more

came in for a scalp treatment and a haircut. the "scalp treatment" made my already kinda dry curly hair even drier, and instead of using a wide tooth comb or brush designed for wet hair she used what felt like a wire tooth brush on my wet, now knotted hair and literally ripped it out all along the left side of my head and the back and felt the pain and Heard the noise of her literally ripping my hair from my scalp. After complaining about the ripping feeling and sound I told her "are u ripping my hair out?" to which she then switched to another wider tooth brush designed more for wet hair and said no my hair can take it. She then basically didn't cut my hair at ALL maybe a few centimeters on the side and I asked for an inch cut all over and more on the sides. I thought that was weird but didn't say anything "stupid me" and then she blow dried it to the left not the right like I always do which I thought was weird. after waking up next Morning I showered and saw my hair was literally a third as full especially on my left side and noticed literally bald spots that were red and painful all along my hair line on the left and the back and realized she didn't cut it because she was trying to hide it and total loss of volume and now i look terrible my hair is worse than ever and my scalp is literally in pain. never come here!! im now paying thousands of dollars on hair pills and biotin shots and prp injections in my scalp to HOPEFULLY get it back to normal. NEVER COME HERE read more
