Once again, after bringing our food, she went back to the back and took some time to come out. We ordered nachos and requested pickled jalapenos. That's a food item they don't have. On Father's Day, a Sunday, we tried to order from AJ's website for carry out. We placed the order, and our credit card was charged. The email confirmation said the order was received, however the order would not be ready for pickup until Monday at 11:30am (the next day!). We immediately called the store, but the manager was out, so we left a message with the staff member on duty. Since we wouldn't get our food that Sunday, we asked for a refund. Long story short, three phone calls and nearly three weeks later, we are still waiting for a refund. Fun, themed diner with good food and high prices. We tried a burger and a sandwich and both were really good. We chose to trade the regular fries out for sweet potato fries at an extra cost. The sweet potato fries were delicious, but they gave us so few that they did not justify the extra cost. We ended by sharing the Black Forest shake. Delicious!! We have come to AJ's on Tuesday for the $5 special & haven't been disappointed! First time we came, we waited for 45 minutes because there was a mixup in the kitchen. The server was friendly and offered a small compensation, which went a long way. They made our food, it was fresh & great and we have been back since. The atmosphere is very family friendly and old school diner, which is awesome! Their shakes are great too, coming from someone who used to work at A&W! And they bring the extra in the metal container, which I'd a big deal when other places don't. Their burgers 1-5 are all good and cooked perfectly and well seasoned. My girlfriend had never been here before so I decided on our next date night we would go before the movies! So this past week, we had said date night and headed over to AJs diner. Since It was a weekday, it was not very crowded which was good! Our waiter was great and he was honestly a gem with his jokes and great sense of humor. He was also very good at making sure we had everything we needed. I wish I got his name but he is a young guy, with shirt black hair, and he was working on Wednesday, October 6. Now onto the food, both my gf and I both got the chicken sandwiches but I got it with the Buffalo sauce and ranch and my gf got it with bbq sauce. We both also got the curly fries. We also got the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. Everything was delicious! For a desert, we shared the Oreo milk shake which was soooo good! The ambiance is really cool and different than other spots in town. Really get that old diner feel. Was waiting for Marty McFly and Biff to walk in. They have a $5 burger on Tuesday, so thats a good deal to check out. Their shakes are pretty on point so that is a must, even if you are full, find a way to force it down. My only gripe would be that the onion rings taste like they are bought pre-battered. I'm super big on house made batter and fried items. So thats a personal problem for me lol. I visited ajs diner today at around 8 and am glad to say that the food was amazing! Sadly, the customer service was not. I was helped by a brunette waitress and she was completely unprofessional! She barely checked on our table and when she did she seemed in the wrong state of mind and had a noticeable stench to her and we could barely hear her when she talked. It's so unfortunate because my family loves coming here for the milkshakes and food which are always great but i wish i could say i had a better customer service experience. We'll definitely be back to enjoy the great food but will be disappointed if we experience the same customer service. read more

Ok so ... this place inside is a TRIP! Back in time.... Think Arnold's Diner from Happy Days. There's classic Woody Woodpecker cartoons on the TV's. And I heard the Rondells, the Platters and Elvis 50's hits played on the pipped in music, just to name a few. The menu is classic diner faire. I opted for the BACON cheeseburger and subbed Onion Rings for Fries. With a Root beer, of course! The burger smelled awesome when It got to my table. Fresh beef, you could tell it was a homemade patty, crispy bacon. Melty cheese ... I like they use a green leaf lettuce instead of the obligatory iceberg. My bun was well toasted, a BIG PLUS. And it tasted great. The onion rings were not anything special ... in fact they were the same as what you get at Sonic. Now I like Sonic onion rings ... but I was hoping for something more homemade like the burger. The place is very clean ... there was only 2 guys working and my server checked with me several times during my meal. So good service. The caddy that holds the artificial sweeteners was really filthy. And the salt and pepper shakers were caked on dirty as well ... that the reason for one less star. They hand sanitizer stations everywhere and plexiglass partitions between most of the booths. And they were wiping and sanitising tables but I think they forget the little things that get dirty and touched a lot like S&P shakers and caddy's ... I could rub the grime off the caddy with my finger... so you could tell it was simple neglect. And the other tables with caddy's were the same. But I also know places are short staffed and things slip when you don't have enough help. AJ's is a unique place in El Paso, if your craving a home made burger I def recommend it! read more

Used to love coming to this place with family and friends. They updated everything and lost some of the vibe. Tried to order a malted milkshake, but was informed they no longer have malted milkshakes. So I paid around $7 for essentially semi liquid ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry. I was also informed they do not have the Kitchen Sink burger or Cherry Coke. Was informed that because anyone hardly visits the N. Mesa location, these favorites have been discontinued and that I would need to drive to the Cimerron location for these favorites. Kind of a letdown TBH. The cashier/waitress was great though. The food matched the super cool and unique ambience. I got the chili con queso burger and the meat inside was so delicious. My family also ordered three milkshakes and each one was literally the best I have had in El Paso. They serve them just like they used to at Fudruckers. Ordered the Little Richard a 1/3 patty a Hamburger with Cheese and Fries for $8.00. Upgraded my fries to Sweet Potato for a $1.50 more. I think this is very close to what I pay at many fast food places. Except I get service and there are comfy chairs. Satisfying and way better than any fast food in town. They have sandwiches, salads which are good. The trouble is they serve fabulous milkshakes. You get the fancy glass with whipped cream and the extra left over in the metal container. Sigh...I don't really know what to say about this experience. Ever since we moved to the westside our daily commute allowed us to check out this place on our way home. I had heard great things about this place and i was super excited to see what all the fuss was about. I don't know if maybe what i grabbed wasn't good enough, i don't know if there is a secret way to getting things here that make them amazing but honestly, i was not impressed with the food. The wings seemed smaller than most other places that offer them on sale and weren't something to write home about. I went with the LIttle Richard and I've had better burgers for less, i know the feel of this place is a throwback to old school diners but i wasn't really impressed with the decor there. One thing i will say tho is that the service was great, our server was super nice and attentive (although i do think we were the only people there for a while). I didn't try their shakes, but from how people explained their burgers and hyped them i can't say I'm all that excited to do so. If anyone has any suggestions on what to get or something i'm more than down to give this place another try, until then I'll stick to other local burger joints for my cravings . read more

Amazing! Had an 18th birthday party here for a family member and we had a blast. You can call and ask about reserving the space. Everything is so beautifully decorated, bathrooms super clean and spectacular service. The staff was absolutely sweet, took care of everyone and even shared a few laughs with us. It was so hard to choose from they all seemed amazing- I will go back and try them all. My burger #4 if I'm not mistake was called Buddy Holly? I COULD be wrong. The burger consisted of white cheddar, caramelized onions , bbq sauce, pickles, and tomato. This combination worked well. I also got the seasoned curly fries and ate them all. I felt as if I would've got my burger cooked to a medium temp and not well done but I expected and old school diner just to do all well. It was still juicy, but I just like what I like. The ONLY down fall to this place was customer service. The service took a while and the boys just all stared at us and stared back at each other debating on who was going to go up to us. They looked all like high schoolers, young and distracted (we've all been there). They were on their phones, and had their headphones in, talking to one another and not paying attention, but when the gentleman came up he was very sweet and respectful- I can't be mad at that. I am extremely picky when it comes to breakfast because I like it my way and can make it at home ... so when we landed in Santa Teresa and needed a place to eat I was pretty grumpy when the guy at the airport was vague and said, "Um theres a place for bar-b-que, and a Subway" ... for breakfast?! Thank goodness for smartphones and Yelp! Which easily led me to AJ's. The place was empty, maybe because it was 10:30 am on a Monday? First glance over the menu I noticed how reasonably priced everything was ... fast food priced for a sit down meal, nice! I don't remember what it was called on the menu but it was the simple breakfast of 1 egg, hashbrowns, 2 pieces of bacon, and toast for under $5 ... might have been $4.49, I can't even get a decent meal from McGross for that price. My egg was perfect, and I'm a weirdo who only eats the yolk, so I appreciated that it was truely over easy so I was able to enjoy all of the runny yolk. The hashbrowns were PERFECT! I am a perfectionist when it comes to hashbrowns. I hate when they become too soft in the center or don't have any flavor - cook them with butter! And I believe that's what AJ's does ... nice buttery perfectly cooked crispy on the outside hashbrowns and then just the right amount of crisp to the bacon. I couldn't have made it any better myself. All I had to add was a tiny bit of pepper and salt and I cleaned my plate! The only downside was the toast, I appreciate the thought of them not buttering it, but instead bringing margarine out for you to do that on your own - but I do not like margarine at all. I didn't ask for butter, maybe I should have and they would have provided some for me? Oh maybe I should say what my boyfriend ate? He ordered the Huevos Rancheros, he says, "It was delicious-o" ... sorry, that's all I can get out of him! All in all, if I lived anywhere near AJ's in El Paso I would eat there often - our waiter was a really polite guy who was attentive but did not hover, the food was delicious, and the value was spot on! read more

Came here for the first time today. Wasn't packed at all, and service was awesome. They sat us down quickly & asked for our drink order. I took the servers advice and tried the chickaboom and hubby ordered the burger with guacamole with curly fries. Food order took about 10mins which is good timing and I could tell it was cooked fresh and it tasted delicious. Server was awesome and came to check on us often. I would give this a 5 star, but the only issue I had was that I got very little fries and hubby got a lot of curly fries. But other than that,great service and delicious food! read more

It has very good food and I enjoy it very much. I and my wife have been many times and have had no troubles at all. The service is friendly and professional. I find the fries especially good - always crispy and tasty. It's an easy atmosphere to be in, with old cartoons running nonstop on screens around the diner. There's nothing like eating a great cheeseburger with fries and a shake and watching Donald Duck be mean to some poor victim, or Foghorn Leghorn slapping around some hapless character. They make it fresh right when you order it, and in my case it's roughly the same cost as going to Whataburger or something like that.
