Even though the stump was cut as close to the ground as possible, there was a mound about 2 feet high and the roots went out 15 feet. He ground everything thoroughly, removed yards of chips, then packed topsoil down, seeded and put straw down for us. It looks like there was never even a tree there now, just like he said! He told us he would be done in the spring, and the contract had a deadline of July 1st, as we all know sometimes things get in the way. After emailing him multiple times in May, he finally got back to us and assured us the job would be done by July 1st. Then he ghosted again. July 1st comes and goes and the work isn't done, and he's not responding to emails and phone calls. We send certified letters and he finally gets back to us in early August and offers us a refund, which we accept. And now he's back to not responding to emails- so we're out $5000 and starting the small claims process. Would not recommend giving him money until he's actually done the job.

The day Deneen and his crew arrived to do the job, I foolishly paid Deneen $450 in cash and in full prior to completion of the job. Shame on me! I thought that since Deneen was an acquaintance through a mutual friend, he could be trusted. Deneen left his crew to do the job. Deneen returned later and pulled his crew off the job just before the job was actually completed. Deneen told his crew that "they had been there long enough". I spoke with and texted Deneen during the week to find out when he was gong to return to finish the job he agreed on and was paid in full for. His response in text to me: " Dave I'm done, 5 hrs. x $26 an hour for my main man $22 for my other man plus dump fees, fuel chipper,bucket, truck, I'll pocket $100, DONE" and "Dave I'm done did more than I should have I should never have agreed to that, wanted to help you out but we're done, should have went with your neighbor landscape or for $500." So I guess the key word in Deneen's text, AGREED, means nothing to him. Funny way of doing business with your customers, especially ones that you know casually through friends, no? Is this the kind of person and company YOU want to do business with?? STAY AWAY FROM DAVID M. DENEEN TREE SERVICE!!!!!!!
