I don't know about the actual tutoring because I was hoping they would get back to me to find out! I contacted them a few times in a few ways- via voice message via call, online/email, etc. No one ever calls back. Finally on the third time contacting them ( maybe they do better via contact info on the website?), they emailed me back. I emailed them and didn't hear back! Maybe they are full and too busy, but it is common courtesy to at least let me know! I found a great tutor since no one responded and much cheaper ( I read I think in some review it was 140./ hour?!) at 30.00/hour! I was actually willing to pay 140./ hour( that is how desperate I was to get tutoring for my son in preparing for an upcoming test!)! So it worked out well for me that they didn't respond!!! Lol-saved me some bucks! Honestly though, I was wondering if they think certain areas can't afford their services as the reviews came from more affluent areas, that they select the ones they respond to by the area they are calling from possibly? Or maybe they are just not organized and their follow-ups are lacking? Too bad, even though I found a great tutor, I gave them a chance and wanted to hire their tutor as well, so I could double the effort in tutoring since we only have a couple of months to prepare! I took a tutoring class to bridge the gap between high school Pre-Calculus and college Calculus with Ben Coupland at the Lafayette Center. We covered everything including Algebra, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus, as well as the first few units of Calculus, and I feel so much more prepared for my calculus class in college than I ever could have working on it on my own. Emilee Manske was my Chemistry tutor for the 2022 AP Chemistry exam, and she was incredible. Emilee was recommended to me by a friend decently close to the exam, which means we didn't have much time to prepare. However, Emilee managed to pack 6 sessions into the week and a half before the test, mainly because she was able to adapt to my schedule and meet early in the morning/late at night. As for the actual tutoring content, AJ Tutoring's teaching style basically consists of taking a bunch of practice tests and then reviewing afterwards. Personally, I think this is a great way to prepare for these types of standardized tests, and my grade seemed to agree. My scores improved dramatically, from a low 3 on the first practice test, to a high 5 on the last. My only gripe with AJ Tutoring is their prices. While it may vary person to person, I ended up paying $140/hr, which adds up after 5/6 sessions. I do think my score would've improved a decent amount if I had just taken a bunch of official practice tests, but it's hard to replace an actual person answering your specific questions. Also, their practice tests are proprietary, which means they're making sure that the harder problems are being reviewed, and really digging into the concepts. In the end, everyone learns differently, and I think you definitely get what you pay for with AJ Tutoring. Generally, If you have the money, I cannot recommend Emilee and AJ Tutoring highly enough. Most of their tutors seem incredibly nice (and very competent), and their teaching style seems to work great. I'll probably be returning for SAT/ACT tutoring next spring. read more

David Griswold is my daughter's test prep tutor (ACT). Although AJ Test Prep came highly recommended by her college counselor, I did my due diligence in reaching out and talking to several different Bay Area test prep facilities before moving forward with AJ Tutoring and specifically, David Griswold. Individual test prep isn't cheap, my friends! It was important for me to know that my daughter would be getting the best help available. Kids can be very smart, with strong work ethics that earn them stellar grades, but not be a great tester. Such has been the case with my daughter. While we are still the middle of test prep, thus far David has helped evaluate my daughters needs and determine which test was right for her -- ACT vs. SAT. After review of her practice test, it was clear he had an excellent understand of her needs and a clearly imparted strategy to concentrate on the parts of the test she really needs to work on. He has been positive, yet realistic. Since working with David over the summer, we've already seen a significant jump in her scores. I interviewed several test prep companies and decided to go with AJ tutoring. My son was assigned to David Griswald. David came to our house for the sessions. He was on time, enthusiastic (unlike my teen), engaging, and incredibly knowledgable about the test, format, process, etc. He is exactly what you are looking for in a tutor. I found some of the other companies to be much more aggressive, which I thought was not a good fit for my son. David helped us determine which test to take between the ACT or SAT. We decided on the ACT and he guided my son through exercises and practice tests. He learned about timing, eliminating answers and more. David and I worked together to determine the frequency of the tutoring (I didn't want too many sessions that were unnecessary). David also checked in at the end of each session with both my son and me to recap what was covered, what the homework was for the next session and how my son was progressing. If there were any concerns they would have been brought out in this process. The results were very good scores. We have re-hired David to prep my son for some SAT subject tests. read more

Back in summer of 2019 we looked for an ACT tutor that could come to the house and help our daughter improve on her test taking skills and overall score. We were very fortunate to work with David periodically over the past 14 months - with his coaching, practice tests, and positive attitude, our daughter was able to improve her score by 5 points! Parents in need of SAT Tutoring - BEWARE! After reading great reviews from others....I must say this was NOT my experience with this SAT tutoring firm. We bit the bullet to pay high prices for private tutoring due to a short time frame and an international student in need of SAT Strategies. Although our Tutor was a nice person, she simply did not provide a service that resulted in an increase over the first base practice test. When we brought this to David Griswold's attention, his only response was to offer us more tutoring hours after the fact - not helpful. So after $3,400 spent... we are quite unhappy and cannot recommend this service and would suggest avoiding. read more
