We have utilized Lafayette Academy's services for ten years (possibly more). Their centers are staffed with experienced and knowledgeable tutors who can assist with tutoring in all academic areas along with ACT and SAT test prep, exam crams and more. I have two girls, who benefitted greatly over the years from their services. From middle school work to college level courses (they even helped my daughter who attended Cal Berkeley with her Business Statistics Course and my other daughter's Chemistry Course through San Diego State) Lafayette Academy had the appropriate staff on hand to assist with all of their needs. Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience as the tutor was a no show and the staff was not very apologetic saying they'd have a manager contact us. it's been 4 days and counting and still no word... We have booked weekly appointments through the end of the year--no idea what to expect this week when we show up. A complete waste of time for both my child and me. Will revise the review to include actual tutoring if that ever happens. Update Tutor is good and outcome seems to be good, however, we continue to have repeated cancellations and they currently only have one tutor for our subject so they never even offer an alternate. read more

Worse than a puppy mill. Took my son there for exam cram. He said he got nothing out of it. In fact, he bombed the exam lowering his overall grade from an A to a B. Thanks for help. The office was packed in dozens of kids. They pack them in...the do some problems from the book.. And that's it. Never again! Great tutors who make learning accessible as well as fun.

Going to Miramonte high school, I found Lafayette Academy a great resource. Science and math are definitely not my strong suits, so when I heard about friends going to various classes I had to join. Shadow classes are really great; they consist of one tutor and a few kids, reviewing the week's material and going over difficult subject matter. Especially in this competitive community, these classes became a necessity. Lo and behold, I eventually graduated from my top choice university. When I saw a Craigslist advertisement for a front desk person, I immediately applied. Now, as a current employee, I help other high school students/parents find the right tutor for their needs. The owners, directors, and tutors are all genuine individuals who really care about the students. This definitely adds to a comfortable and fun environment which, in turn, helps kids learn all the better. read more

I attended Lafayette Academy for both SAT tutoring and individual class tutoring, and I had very positive experiences. I felt much more prepared for exams after going to the Academy, and it definitely showed in my test scores and grades. I can't believe this has only a handful of reviews...Lafayette Academy is very well known and has been around for years. I was trying to figure out who to brag to about my son's SAT score...and I figured, in a YELP review. My son's SAT score increased by hundreds of points... literally. And, he got A's in his last two physics tests/quizzes. We are going to continue with Lafayette Academy. Honestly, not every tutor for the academy has worked out for my son...but they were quick to find us a new one when we were unhappy. Anyway, I can't believe how good his SAT score is. He took the one on one full package SAT tutoring from Lafayette Academy. He also does individual tutoring. He's done the Exam Cram's and he's done the shadow classes. What has worked best for him is the individual tutoring. By the way, I'm a teacher and I tutor and I don't work for them. read more

Scheduling is a breeze! Tutor FANTASTIC! -Bailey is my daughter's tutor in middle school math. My daughter had a rough start in math this school year, so I felt it was essential to get help early. Bailey was the right person!! Not only was she terrific at middle school math, but she was "Cool" and "fun to talk to." My daughter doesn't mind going to tutoring anymore. I attended Lafayette Academy for junior and senior year of high school and couldn't have made it without them. The tutors hired are professionals in each subject they teach, and they have always clearly answered each of my questions and made sure I understood all the concepts. If I came unprepared, the tutors still filled up the hour by explaining the chapter and homework with me, since they keep copies of the of our books. Even in the last 30 seconds of class, they always tried to finish the problem we were on. The place is also well equipped with a range of books and resources to use when a student forgets to bring something. The SAT course is also great. The class size is about 4 to 10 and the students are provided with the College Board SAT book, and a thick binder of homework. The owner, Mark, also hangs around and tutors some classes. He cares so much for the students that he made me aware of free SAT nights and spent hours trying to teach me the tactics that would benefit my learning style the best. My SAT score increased hundreds of points, after all the work. The tutors are all very nice and joke around with us in the middle of the classes to keep us entertained. The place is composed of separate rooms for each session the schedule is also very flexible to the point where I regularly called the day before to make an appointment or to cancel an appointment free of charge. Lafayette Academy is more than what it seems and a family will only understand the benefits after experiencing them. The worst service I have ever experienced. I requested tutoring AP courses and SAT for my high school son. The director, Jeremy, called a week later and had no idea I requested private tutoring. My son had a diagnostic test for SAT on June 21 and today is July 11, I never heard anything from them. What a poor service!!! I will never recommend this Lafayette academy to anyone. read more

A horrible horrible place. Firstly the building is practically falling down around you, not only is the floor littered with trash, but for their are open plugs and loose wires snaking the walls, lots of water damage in the sub ceiling in which i'm sure that mold is growing, in addition to the fact that their AC does not work and it can become extremely hot in the building. I am positive that they are breaking countless City building codes. Besides those obvious reasons not to go their, their service is terrible. I have often shown up to appointments only to see that the place is closed, or somebody else is meeting with my tutor, and they did not tell me! I received no email, no phone call, no communication of any time. Every time I go it is a crap shoot. In addition to that It is extremely hard to make an appointment with my tutor. They always overbook him, and I can never never find a time that works both in my schedule, and in his. Finally their service is terrible. I have often called the manager Jeremy, and asked him to schedule an appointment, and he always says that he will need to check, and call me back. Every single time, I never receive a call back. I have call them three times just to get decent service. The one decent thing about this place is that the receptionist are very friendly, but their systems are just not set up right. DO NOT GO HERE. There are countless other tutoring places, and go to one that deserves your business. They charge sky high prices, $60 an hour, and it is not worth it. I refuse to take my business here any longer. It is just a terrible business. I warn you. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I do NOT recommend LA. Compared to other options it is inexpensive but the value is poor. The Lafayette site manager does not return calls. I set up a Private tutoring session for my daughter for ACT prep. She took the assessment and no one called or emailed with her scores. When I called over a week later the complete scores were not available, and when they were the person I spoke to gave me the score for the Essay and when I asked what that meant, I was told "I have no idea". My daughter showed up for her private session, and she was put in a class, then the tutor called and said my daughter missed the session. I called the Lafayette site manager to discuss and set up her Private session (which is over $1300) and was told her computer was down but she would call me back. Over a week later I have not received a call. The people who schedule appointments know little to nothing about the ACT tutoring program, and can give no advice on best way to schedule. And, they can not guarantee the same tutor over the course of the package. read more
