I've had dozens of hems repaired, zippers replaced, size alterations and other repairs done by AJ Stitch seamstresses over the past 10+ years and service, timeliness, quality and staff responses have universally been excellent, all for fair prices that were below that of other local tailors/seamstresses. I have been coming here to get my jeans/pants hemmed for years. Being short, shopping for jeans is a pain in the butt because even in the petite section, the pants are still long. So of course, I have a go to tailor. The people at AJ Stitches have been extremely great with their handiwork. I have gotten a lot of compliments on how great their tailor skills are (is that what it's called?!?). I have had coworkers state that you can't even tell that the pants were hemmed. I've taken jeans and dress pants here for alterations several times over the years. The work is done well, and corrections haven't been needed. I try the items on, they place the pins and confirm the changes are what I'm looking for, then I get everything back within a week. I also find the prices to be better than any other tailors I've used in town. As long as these trends continue, I'll keep coming back. read more

Brought my son's packpack to have a zipper fixed on small pocket. First they was not sure if it could be fixed and told me to come back in 20 minutes. I returned woman told me $18 to fix backpack and when she wrote up invoice it was $19 which I had to pay before I left the store. I felt as if I was being taken advantage of with the prices they charge. The backpack will not be ready until next Tuesday. I will write another review about the quality of the zipper repair once I pick up the backpack. So far I am not impressed with the prices. Be aware of the prices you are quoted. read more

I have had the pleasure of locating AJ Stich and Alterations at Southridge Mall on two occasions. The first occasion was over one year ago when they were located at the south-west exit of the mall. I brought in a heavy pair of motorcycle pants that required a complicated hemming and relocating of snap fittings. They explained the different options for the alteration and the advantaged to each option. The work was completed next day. The work looks great and it is holding up as well as well or better than the factory stitching. My most recent experience was this evening at their newest location inside the Bachrach store on the second level. My wife required some emergency and hemming for a pair of suit-pants. We drove to Southridge from Mayfair mall for the hemming service and I nearly panicked when at first I saw the old location was no longer open. A quick trip to the mall service desk pointed me in the right direction. When my wife and I arrived, the mall was less than 20 minutes from closing; I never expected what happened next. We were invited into the shop with smiles. Service was fantastic, we never felt rushed. 15 minutes later we were on our way home with a perfectly hemmed pair of slacks. We were very happy customers and I wish I had thought to tip at the time. Total price? $8.45. Service, quality and value. I hope this business is around for a long time. read more

I do NOT recommend this business. After having several shirts altered by this business (both sides and split tabs at the bottoms of each shirt) at the cost of $25 per shirt, I had one of the split tabs and one of the side hems come apart. When I picked up the shirts I mentioned the loose threads and specifically asked that if there would be a problem with the hems. I was told by the seamstress that they would gladly repair them. I should just bring them in. I did just that. I waited patiently while the same seamstress fitted a bride for her gown. While tending to me, I was told that the repairs would cost me $12, because they "could not guarantee any work past seven days." These repairs were literally so miniscule: a two inch hem on the side, and fixing the split tab at the bottom, about a half inch in each direction. I asked her quarreling over these minor alterations was really worth losing my business. She kept assuring me, "Yes, I understand." But then reiterated her position that she would not repair them without charging me $12. Apparently, the argument was that they cannot control what customer's machines do to the garments. On the surface, that sounds reasonable, but I should mention a few things here. First, (and I know there is no way of proving this), I use an LG machine on the delicate cycle. The machine has no agitator. I use Persil detergent and cold water. I air dry my garments. I explained all of this to her, and also reminded her that I thought these threads were loose when I picked up the garment. Second, it was only the work done by AJ Stich that came apart--the same stitches that I indicated I thought might come loose when I picked up the garments. Again, I reminded her of our conversation. No other areas of my garment exhibited any wear or damage--only the areas altered by AJ Stitch. Third, I was promised that they would fix these areas if I had any problems, but then AJ Stitch reneged on their commitment. I was a returning and loyal customer, and this was such and easy fix, that would have cost them nothing out of pocket! But I guess common sense just isn't so common anymore. I had two shirts I was bringing in to have her alter when I said I'd pick these repaired shirts up. In the end, after arguing the point in front of six other customers waiting, I decided to take my shirts and leave. To her credit, she did not raise her voice or lose her composure, and neither did I. I will not return to AJ Stitch and I will post my experiences online and file a complaint with Simon, the parent company and owner of Southridge Mall. I am appalled at the shortsightedness of this business, and I intend to warn others. It's too bad. Prior to this interaction, I'd liked this business and the seamstress. read more

Paid for a new zipper for a cycling jersey. First time I used it, the zipper broke. When I had the chance to return it three weeks later, the person at the counter said that since I hadn't brought it back within a week and didn't have the receipt, they would have to charge me the regular price for a new zipper. Uh, no. I'll go somewhere else. read more

My family and I have been going to AJ Stitch since they opened in South Ridge. On average, we brought 6 pants to AJ monthly. Last July I stopped in to get a formal dress hemmed. My mother went to pick up my dress and asked the elderly woman why it was so expensive. The lady responded, "if I would've known it was your daughter, I would have charged her more." My mother thought it was a joke, took the dress, and came home. Yesterday, my mom took several pairs of pants to get shortened. The sign said it would be 7.95 but my mom noticed she was charging her 8.95. So my mom asked her why it was more. The elderly woman responded that we looked like we had money so we could pay more. We own two of our own businesses and our regulars get treated BETTER than the occasional customer. This is incredibly poor customer service and we will not be returning to AJ Stitch again. It shouldn't matter whether we look like we have money or not. You have your prices placed on the wall, stick to them. They do a decent job depending on who does the alteration so if you plan on going once, go ahead. If you want a place for all your alteration needs, skip this place and find a less crooked shop. read more

Had my button up shirt fixed, asked the lady not to make it too short on the sleeve, we measured, found a correct fitting for my shirt and yet when I picked up the shirt, sleeves were way too short. Gave them a second chance with a pair of jeans, also way too slim. Jeans didn't even button up after being "fixed". Same day had a shirt get fixed and again, sleeves were a lot shorter than we had agreed on. Too expensive for things not to get done correctly. Don't recommend. read more

So disappointed!! Took my sons winter jacket to get zipper replaced ($47) , picked it up and the stitching was horrible. Said they'd redo it and picked it up next day... looked better but not satisfied. Then was told they don't do reversible zippers which is what was on there. Maybe you should call the customer first and tell them. Very angry still but the check was already cashed so I know now where to never go! read more
