I believe Aish Tanoor may have changed management. Otherwise I couldn't explain the stark contrast from my first dining experience there. First of all, the place is dirty. Second, it's completely empty, whereas the first time I was there it was bustling. We placed a large order for takeout for a dinner party. We placed the order via their online ordering system. When I came to pick up the food, I was greeted with "what order?". It took them 5 minutes to finally bother looking up the online ordering system to find the order there. Then they said it would take 45 minutes to prepare. At the time that I have hungry dinner guests waiting at home. At which point, I opted to leave. But before I left, I tried to get my money back, and the attendant was useless. He told me that he cannot do it without the manager. He called the manager and I spoke to him, and he told me that he will issue the refund the following week. The following week, the refund was not issued.. surprise surprise. I had to chase the manager for several days before the refund was finally issued. Yikes. Yikes. Yikes. read more

Very basic atmosphere, not dancing nor dining room look, large colourful paintings on the wall, however, the food each time I have been there or ordered take-out it has been delicious ! Have never been disappointed . The service was fine, they came to take our order in good timing and were also able to make some adjustments to the menu. read more

Terrific wraps, chicken, shawarma, schnitzel.. Only reason 4 star, $13.55 is a LOT for a wrap. If it's $8,9,10 you'd go a lot more often. read more

Aish Tanoor - I'm inside and it looks snowy and not nice outside - Kosher Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

I am a big fan of Israeli/Middle Eastern/Arabic cuisine, and to my experience, the food here is average. From hummus to falafel I had here, I felt that they lack the strong seasoning as if the use of spice was intentionally moderated. It is not a negative thing per se, and many people may prefer it that way, but my taste wished they were richer in spice. However, I should say all the food was fresh and was cooked to perfection. For sure, the biggest game changer which made this restaurant distinct to me from its competitors was its warm, freshly-came-out-of-oven bread served with all dishes. The combo appetizer is a must and gives you a great variety of dips as well as salads. Besides the food, the other reason which makes me not to give it full five stars is its service. When we asked for water, our server did not fill all the glasses on the table, only those who asked. She did not leave the tap-water jar either and each time, we had to ask her to refill our glasses. read more

Ever since they changed ownership in mid 2019, this place has gone downhill. They say nothing has changed, but it feels like everything has changed. Food doesn't taste the same, service and knowledge have gone downhill. It no longer feels like a family run place, but a little corporation. Trying to order on the phone used to be strait forward, now its listen to message, enter key, wait for them to pick up, place your order, see if they confirm your order, they put you on hold, they hang up. I want to order food from here, I want it to go back to how it used to be but everytime I try to order it's frustrating and it feels like their discouraging me from going there. I didn't mind paying their higher prices for the outstanding quality and flavour I was getting...but that was before. I dont think I'll ever go back again. read more

Really great menu, kosher Israeli food. I've been to many restaurants in Toronto but this is honestly the best one so far. They start your salads, dips, hummus, pickles, egg plant and a giant fresh pita directly from the oven. The food was amazing, the service was great. You won't taste anything similar to this in toronto !! Must try read more

My review is specific to the food I ordered and comparison of price, quantity, quality and relative experience around the city. Let me begin by saying that I'm well aware of current restrictions to service due to COVID-19, hence like previously mentioned, my rating is not on the service but rather on the order by categories mentioned earlier. I ordered 2 Laffa's one shawarma and the other chicken kebab. The kebab felt dry and somewhat burnt. I felt flakes of burnt/ charred oil or other cooked meats in my laffa as the grill may have not been cleaned properly. With that I ordered all the toppings that came standard with the order unfortunately many of the topping were missing (eggplant, morrocan style carrots, babaganush etc...) overall the taste was ok but it wasn't worth the $15/ laffa that I paid. I'm sorry but if you're gonna charge $15 / laffa I expect the place to bring their A-game. Thus far this was the most expensive laffa kebab/shawarma I've ever eaten in the city and was extremely disappointed. The quantity/portion of salads was average for the city and sub-par to israeli standards. The meat was decent in quantity but pretty poor in quality. P.S average price for shawarma/kebab Laffa is $10-$13 (Mr. Zargos / Dr. Laffa). Thus far Dr. Laffa is still then winner in my books. read more

Israel is a bundle of cultural influences, rooted in the wide-scale convergence of people from different parts of the world. The mid-20th century saw a huge influx of immigrants, from places like the Middle East, who brought with them stuff like pita and rice. That makes Israeli cuisine incredibly important and diverse - in modern days, it becomes a fusion of its residents, but also a culmination of experiences of Jews throughout history. That's not to say that all Israeli food is Arab-influenced. This ignores many of the regional differences too! Large parts of Israeli cuisine is also influenced by Mediterranean, North African, Eastern Europe, and more. Aish Tanoor plainly is in the camp of Middle Eastern Israeli food. It does it well, too. Authenticity aside, the food here is truly tasty, and the portions large. Frankly, the service isn't great - but I can't say that I care, since the food is good enough anyways. A great microcosm of my meal was the start: my meal started with pickled vegetables and olives - two things that I usually don't enjoy eating, because I find they are too salty for my palate. But here, they were salted just right. Big fan of this place. Will be back. read more

Just what the doctor ordered! I was craving a chicken shawarma in a pita, and Aish Tanoor hit the spot. Granted it is pricey (about $14), but it's kosher, and that always comes with a higher price tag. I would definitely come back for the shawarma; it's delicious. read more

The most authentic Israeli food in the heart of the city. The hummus is stellar, the service is awesome and the place pleasant. I like that everything is very fresh, well priced and healthy. YOU MUST TRY THE SHAKSHUKA IN THE BREAD BOWL! It's a whole new way of eating Shakshuka. It is super filling and a great tasting dish! read more

Amazing food and large portions! The laffa comes piping hot to your table and goes perfectly with the various topped hummus that Aish Tanoor serves. I would recommend the mushroom one, it's amazing. The shakshuka in a bread bowl was also amazing but there is no way you could finish everything on that plate in one sitting! They do not serve alcohol, the closest thing is a weird malty beverage that seems to be popular in the Middle East. If you want to order for pickup, don't go through Foodora, the prices are marked up slightly, you can always call for a phone order! read more

I've been here before and it wasn't as good this time around. We had fried eggplant and butternut squash soup as appetizers. The eggplant was good but not as crispy as it was last time. The squash soup was a bit bland. The mains were solid but uninspired. Two of our party had chicken breast skewers with white rice. Looked OK. I had a chicken salad that came doused in bland dressing. The last one of our party got shawarma with vegetables but it was served much later than the others. I would think that all the competition in this area (I mean, really, there's about as many laffa places around these days as Tim Horton's), each proprietor would have to up their game. I would definitely try this again because I like to support the kosher establishments. I hope it goes back to the way it was. read more

Was not aware that the owners had changed in 2019. We had loved this place in the past. Soft billowy Laffa bread, delicious schwarma and schnitzel, Israeli salad. Everything used to be great. We decided to order dinner on Mother's Day. What a huge mistake! The bread was burnt and hard in various places. We ordered schwarma and schnitzel, Israeli salad and rice. We received 2 small pieces of schnitzel with a spice mixture that was weird. It was not normal tasting schnitzel. The yellow rice was bland, the schwarma was just ok and i think we received one small spoonful of the Israeli salad. Very disappointing. We will never be going back. read more

Awesome food. And oh don't get me started on the bread. The service was also cheerful and friendly. Highly recommend the Shakshooka. The kebab was out of this world. Of course I had the Israeli salad. read more

I love this restaurant. Their marinated chicken thigh meat and breast meat are tender and properly marinated. The mains are on the expensive side IMHO, but you know that you're getting a quality meal. I wish their chicken, lamb, and beef weren't just kosher, but organic kosher. These guys know their craft and it shows. You can't go wrong with Aish Tanoor. If you're on the go, I recommend their chicken dark meat sandwich. It's tender and juicy. That's what I usually get when I stop by to grab a sandwich to go. read more

Not impressed, food came cold to the table, mind you it was a Shwarma in a pita with lettuce tomatoes and everything else.. they took it and heated it up with everything in it.. still came back cold and tomatoes and lettuce were soggy.. not worth the money , sorry just being honest, Service was below standard and you could have just made a new sandwich for what you charge. read more

Unfortunately we had our first racist encounter At Aish Tanoor. On Tuesday night we were walking by and decided to walk in. A waitress stopped us from going inside because we had a grocery bag and a bag from lcbo. We first thought she didn't want us to go in because they were busy. We offered to order take out food. However, we were told that only one person (we were 3) can go in and place the order. A lady sitting near the entrance tried to explain that this is an Orthodox Jew establishment. We checked but it is not registered as a religious place. Not going back to Aish and don't recommend that you do either. read more

Worst experience at a Mediterranean restaurant Bad service Rice was dry Beef kebab was raw The grilled eggplant is simply one grilled eggplant (burnt) and cut in half drizzled with tahini. Knock off "kosher food" My girlfriend said thank you after she returned the uncooked raw beef kebab and was given no response after she was given back the same uncooked beef kebab just burned on the outside, the salad was pre made and sitting in the oil you can tell from the lack of colour in the vegetables, the chicken on my hummus w/ shawarma was not bad some of the pieces were raw as well and still a pinkish white colour that chicken shouldn't be before being served Nothing here was good except for the the bread. That the women is rolling there with here bare hands in the middle of a pandemic. This is ridiculous it was the worst 65 dollars I've ever spent at a restaurant horrible lunch still had to go get food after because the food was so bad Definitely not coming back Bad look for the neighbourhood High end neighborhoods need good food Definitely recommend the restaurants around the area the bagel places and the Jerusalem restaurant are all good this one is just isn't read more

The $14 falafel dinner plate only comes with one side: rice, fries, steamed veggies OR a salad. No hummus, no turnips, no tahini etc. So just falafel and fries? No thanks. A side of hummus is $12. Food was cold on pickup and flavor did not match what we expected from reviews. We won't be going back

Let me preface this by saying am not Israeli nor Jewish nor Kosher :P but I really liked the food. I got a beef kebab on a salad. The beef was fresh & tasty. I should have gotten 2 kebaba instead of 1. I don't know what they put in their salad but it is so good & tastes fresh & lemony! Yum. I'd come back just for that. It is a simple salad too. Just lettuce, cucumbers & tomatoes. They also gave me 3 mini salads to start & they were good as well. I didn't get the bread as I am on a very low carb diet. The only small issue was that with tax & 15% tip, my total was around $18. I thought that that was pricey for 1 kebab on a salad. If I am in the area & hungry I'd go back but I won't go out of my way to go there. read more

I really liked it. It's a small Israeli style place with very fresh /hot from the oven food. I tried sabich combo and it was delicious. Laffa was piping hot and just made. We also ordered sabich laffa sandwich but could not even attempt to eat it as the plate was huge - the two of us barely finished 75% of the plate and could not breathe anymore. Service was good, everyone was obviously in a good mood and smiling. Would go back to this place anytime over some $500 restaurants around where the food is not even half as good. read more

I went with a large group to Aish Tanoor last evening. We started at 6 pm. which we had reserved First of all I want to say: The food was delicious There were no exceptions from the fish to the steak everyone spoke highly of how good their meal was. With about 16 people I think they can be partially forgiven for the chaotic service. Plus the other tables started to fill up. But that was the problem. Basic service of water, etc including the complimentary appetizers at beginning was neglected. Appetizers were not put on tables until we had been there about 20 mins Some people got served finished their meals while other diners had nothing. Partially do to the small kitchen and of course the freshness of each meal. But there seemed no order In addition some people with specific food allergies asked for example if the falafel or shawarma could just be put on a plate with or without the pita on the side & were flatly told NO by waitresses & owner. Having said that I would suggest smaller groups so staff can keep up. I had the trout which was absolutely one of the best I've ever had, although the few cherry tomatoes looked lonely. Fortunately some of us shared a platter of appetizers so I was able to add. And my friend had rice which she shared. The appetizers were also great. So go have a great time. The staff with how busy they were had smiles on their faces, were very friendly and tried really hard. And even though the service was delayed, we used the time to socialize and finally to each have a great meal. read more

First, I confess I am not a Jew. But my people are from "The Isles of the Blest"...British. I also live a good two hours north of this charming spot. I asked a friend and his wife to join me for lunch, because I wanted to try this style of food (culture). As host I was VERY pleased by the whole experience. First, the place was clean and orderly. Second, the server, a young lady whose name I did not get, was prompt and polite and very understanding of us neophytes. Third, we, as strangers were made to feel welcome by staff and diners...there was no, "what are these folks doing in OUR spot" vibe. Fourth, the FOOD...it was SO good...all fresh and wholesome...nothing that looked or tasted or felt anything but "good" and "good for you". The bread alone was worth the trip. (We had the whole wheat.) I had the Sabich Platter? I think it was called. To sum up; my experience; CANADA GRADE 'A' NUMBER 1. read more
