This is a fantastic little regional airport in Akron, NY -- used mainly for general aviation and…read moreflight instruction. For flight instruction, there are a number of planes for rent here: including an old 47 tailwheel Aeronca Champ (which is a bargain to rent at something like $78/hour) and a Warrior for instrument/PPL training. This is one of the only places to rent a tailwheel airplane in the WNY area, so if you're looking to grab a tailwheel endorsement -- Akron Airport should be one of your first stops. They also have hangars for rent here starting at around $200/mo -- I have no experience renting one, but call them for availability/information. What I love about Akron Airport is the community mindset. You can go into the main office and catch a lot of pilots eager to talk aviation. The mechanic onsite (Kevin Rose) is very friendly and open to helping others learn. There is also quite a few warbirds at Akron Airport -- from a Stearman to other beautiful airplanes. If you're interested in these airworthy relics of the past (and want to fly them!), look into becoming a member of the Buffalo Heritage Squadron -- for a $250 annual membership, you can help preserve old airplanes of the past. If you live nearby, Akron Airport is a great stop for flying lessons and if you're a pilot and want to fly in and check them out -- be sure to do so!

My impressions: The good: - runways are paved well. - GPS instrument approach system. - no landing / parking fees (haha, but I guess that that should be expected given the lack of accommodations) The bad: - I don't believe there's a bathroom on site. - fuel is more expensive than other regional airports in the area. - the field has been for sale for a long time, I'm not sure how interested the owner is in continuing to maintain it. - I don't even think there is airport coffee. Be careful if you fly out on Sunday's for the TFR (temporary flight restriction) during home Bill's games.

Southwest is so incompetent that they failed to label the seat sections with letters which makes it even more of a hassle to find your seat. When I sat in my seat I observed a female directly across from me sprawled out among three seats with her booty shorts and buttocks poking out and her shoes on the seat where people would have to sit down. Directly behind her a guy was sprawled out among three seats and directly behind them there was a row of empty seats. Somehow one of the stewardess told me I could not let my seat back and to lift it up. When I asked when I could let it back she said I couldn't let it back until we were in the air. Meanwhile in front of me one row up I observed a white man reading a book with his seat all the way back. The stewardess did not offer for me to sit in the row with three seats that was available behind me so I could stretch out or simply be more comfortable. Instead she singled me out and did not say a word to other people who had their seats back before takeoff. After this Even during the flight I never let my seat back. Southwest should really train their prejudice employees to disguise their offense a little better. It would help if you would approach everyone that is in so-called violation of your piss poor policies instead of singling out the black man.

The runway is fairly short and not wide and you'd be approaching through a little valley. The airport can be tough to find because it is so short. There's been times when I've only been a few miles away from the field and found it hard to see it. There is fuel here and I believe pilot controlled runway lighting can be activated, although I've only flown out of here at night once and I can't seem to remember now. It's a neat little airport, not quite the community that Akron Airport has and has a north/south oriented runway (so watch out for potential crosswinds); but good to have in the area nonetheless.

As always, Delta served me well on this trip - on time departures, baggage handled well, arrived a…read morebit early to make a tight connection. Delta is always my preferred airline - none of them are amazing, but Delta seems to have the least delays and best process and customer loyalty program for me. Upon arrival - our bags were circling the baggage claim by the time we made it down - so very fast. Checking in my bag for departure a few days later was also easy, as was finding our gate.

Automatically rebooked on another flight that didn't leave for 5 hours, and would leave us approximately. 30 minutes to catch a connecting flight; obviously unworkable. Spent significant time at the counter trying to get booked on something else. When we asked them to check other airlines, we were told we would have to call customer service! Finally, someone else got involved, rebooked us on something reasonable. unfortunately, troubles didn't end there. We have made 3 attempts so far to get all of our mileage credited. We sent in all the info required (one of their partner airlines was involved) on their online claim form. first 2 claims were just ignored. continuing to follow up, we sent in a complaint. Now we're told we have to send in copies of our boarding pass, e ticket or other document. no apology.
