We came here randomly on a Monday night for a good meal after a long day of sight seeing in Pompeii…read moreand Salerno area. It was late, but saw a sign for Cicero on the nearby square and I'm glad we decided to go. The owner and the chef seemed to be the only two there. No one in our four person group could speak Italian (aside from small words/phrases), but both the owner and chef were able to help us understand the impressive menu. We ordered 2 bottles of wine from the local paestum area for the night. I got the zuppa (lentils and beef), which reminded me of my mom's pot roast, but with a spicy flavor, and the lasagna di mare, which had fresh local seafood caught that day. We were celebrating a birthday, so of course got the almond chocolate and orange torte (cake), with lovely cream and pomegranate on the side. Also had a few aperitifs including fig, rosemary and limoncello. Everything was beautifully presented and the restaurant advertises "refined free food", which their website means free of added sugars and uses organic products. Words and pictures do not do it justice. Definitely a must try if you're in the Salerno area.
