I got estimates as high as $3000 to fix the unit. However, Mr. Viscardi charged me $400 and the unit is working like new again. I was impressed. So much so that when I had an issue with a leaky pipe under my kitchen sink, I called him again. With the sink, the problem was that the leaky pipe was housed inside a wall. So the brunt of the work had to do with cutting the old pipe and running new pipe through the floorboard. It was an easy enough fix and took about an hour. He also ran a tube from a water pipe in the basement through the floorboard to my 1st floor fridge so that I could utilize the water and ice option. For this job, he charged a total of $575. At first I thought it was a little on the high side, but he did respond on the same day that I called and it was fixed in a short amount of time. I'm not sure if he had other appointments that day, but if he did, then that would have played a part in the billing. The appointment for the AC repair was made a week in advance. Our boiler stopped working and I gave these guys a call. They came over on short notice and just pressed a reset switch (I swear the switch was basically hidden and could only be found by someone who knew exactly where to look). The company is based in my town and they were gone in less than 5 minutes but charged $80. What I found strange is they put their hard-to-remove stickers on my boiler and water heater (neither of which they installed or did any work on). Later that day the boiler started smelling like gas so I called these guys back up. They refused to come back out to look at the boiler and told me with 100% certainty that my issue was with my chimney. They warned me of shady chimney companies so I asked if they had a company they could recommend and they didn't. I called a well rated chimney company who told me I needed a chimney liner and also told me that my boiler issue would be fixed if I paid them to re-line my chimney. The night before the chimney company was set to start working on my house Professional Service called me to check in. When I told them we were going to get the chimney work done, they asked me how much they quoted and when I told them, they said they had a company who could do it cheaper. I reminded them I specifically asked if they had a chimney company they could recommend earlier and they didn't. I told them it was too late to change our plans. A day after we spent thousands on a chimney liner our boiler continued to have issues. That's when I realized out that our trusty plumber (Peace of Mind Plumbing) also does heating. I had him come over and he showed me proof that the boiler had actually cracked from the inside and needed to be replaced. If I had just gone with Peace of Mind in the first place I could have avoided a lot of unnecessary time and expense paid on the wrong solutions to our issue.

It was a pleasure scheduling, from the polite office staff, to the confirmation call that my tech was on the way, to the actual appointment with my technician Randolph. Randolph, an energetic and polite young man, greeted me with a firm handshake, and friendly smile. He confirmed the job scope, and price, and got to work and diagnosed the problem, and immediately solved it! He also gave me a tutorial, based on the questions I was asking, on how to use my existing system more efficiently, how best to set each thermometer, and when and how to change air filters if / when I wanted to do it myself. They charged me $685 plus tax to replace a single dual capacitor. This is a basic 30-minute job, and the high-end universal part they used costs under $100 retail. The standard market rate for this repair in Rockland County tops out around $350 to $450. Charging nearly $700 for a simple part swap is an extreme, unconscionable markup. There are plenty of honest, local HVAC professionals in our area who charge fair market rates. I will never use this company again, and I strongly advise other Rockland County homeowners to look elsewhere unless you want to be severely overcharged.
