BLUF: Comfortable short-haul international seats; excruciatingly uncomfortable long-haul international seats. We recently took a few Air Canada flights between LaGuardia Airport and Japan. We flew from LaGuardia to Montreal, Montreal to Narita Airport, Haneda Airport to Toronto, and Toronto to LaGuardia. While it's been a several years since I've been on an international flight, I don't recall economy seats as being as uncomfortable as Air Canada's economy seats for our flights between Canada and Japan. I simply couldn't find a position in the seat where I was comfortable enough to fall asleep. By contrast, it's not hard to fall asleep on a New York City subway or bus, even though that isn't recommended these days. The economy seats on the flights between LaGuardia Airport and Canada were much more comfortable. Another issue we encountered was the lack of storage space. Some customers took up more space than allotted, by putting both their carry-on luggage and personal bags into the overhead bins, where the latter was meant to fit underneath the seats. That said, flight attendant service was professional and polite. The international flights to and from Japan (in July 2023, anyway) equip each economy seat with a single-jack headphone socket and an USB-A socket. The short-haul flights to and from Canada equip each economy seat with a dual-jack headphone socket, one USB-A socket, and one USB-C socket. I recommend noise-cancelling earbuds or headphones, and compression socks, especially for long-haul international flights. read more

I rarely write negative reviews, but after months of correspondence with Air Canada and a complete denial of any restitution, I believe other travelers deserve to know about my experience. My wife and I were scheduled to travel from LaGuardia to Lyon, France, on April 2, 2026 (Booking BL5Z42). Our itinerary began with Air Canada flight AC8641 from LaGuardia to Montreal. Our trip unraveled almost immediately. We were informed that our flight from LaGuardia to Montreal had been cancelled, and we were given two choices: delay our vacation by a full day or fly to Paris instead and make our own way to Lyon. To avoid losing a day of our trip, we chose the Paris option. Air Canada arranged transportation from LaGuardia to JFK so we could board an Air France flight to Paris. We appreciated that effort. However, the meal vouchers we were given at JFK were not accepted by the airport vendors, leaving us with $97.80 in out-of-pocket meal expenses. Because we arrived in Paris rather than Lyon, we also had to rent a car and drive several hours to reach our destination, adding another $289.38 in unexpected costs. Unfortunately, the return trip was even more frustrating. Before leaving France, we discovered that our return reservation had completely disappeared from Air Canada's system. It required two separate phone calls--each lasting more than two hours--to have our return flights restored. After arriving in Montreal, our connecting flight to LaGuardia was cancelled. We were initially rebooked through Toronto with an overnight delay before working with an airport agent to secure seats on the next available direct flight to LaGuardia. During the trip home, we received 13 separate emails announcing delays, cancellations, seat changes, upgrades, and downgrades. Keeping track of our actual itinerary became nearly impossible. At one point, my wife and I were upgraded to first class. A few minutes later, I was removed from first class and reassigned to the last row of the aircraft in a non-reclining seat while my wife remained in first class. After everything that had already happened, it felt like one more unnecessary frustration. To be fair, every Air Canada employee we dealt with in person was courteous, patient, and genuinely tried to help. My criticism is not directed at the frontline staff. My disappointment is with Air Canada's handling of the situation afterward. The airline ultimately attributed our travel disruption to weather and declined any reimbursement or goodwill compensation. While weather can certainly disrupt air travel, many of the issues we experienced were unrelated to the weather itself: our return reservation disappearing from the system, more than four hours spent on hold to restore it, unusable meal vouchers, repeated itinerary changes, conflicting notifications, and the complete lack of any customer recovery despite documented out-of-pocket expenses. In total, we incurred $387.18 in additional expenses, not including the many hours spent resolving problems that should never have occurred. Travel disruptions happen, and I understand that airlines cannot control the weather. What they can control is how they care for customers when things go wrong. Unfortunately, that is where Air Canada fell well short. What should have been an unforgettable vacation became memorable for all the wrong reasons. "We're not happy unless YOU'RE not happy". That sums it up for this airline. I fly Air Canada maybe once every three months, and I always end up saying I will never fly them again. Unfortunately, when you are going to Canada, you often have no alternative. Today, in Toronto, I received a text informing me that the flight was leaving early. Three hours early. Then a little while later, I got a text indicating the flight was leaving one hour late. At that point, I go out and book a ticket on delta. Pay for it. Then get to the airport and realize the flight is on time. Cancel the other ticket and work to get a refund. Next, go to the lounge. I have lots of time to kill. The lounge does not believe in power outlets. I have to wander around for five minutes just to find a place to plug in my laptop. Then I get on the plane which actually leaves roughly on time. We land at LaGuardia and sit in the tarmac for 30 minutes. Captain says a fuel truck is stalled. Apparently there are no tow trucks for the fuel truck. Finally after 30 minutes we move. Then we get to the gate. We wait 15 minutes for someone to move the jet bridge Clearly these guys don't have any "stroke" at LGA. Never had anything like this at LGA with AA, DL or UA. And that is just one flight. I have to hand it to Air Canada, today was a unique set of issues. All my other Air Canada flights had issues, but they were different. February 23, 2026 RE: Air Canada Flight(s) Formal Complaint On Thursday, February 12, 2026, my son and I were set to fly from NY JFK to Toronto YYZ (Flight #AC8555; eticket #0147335426267) - our final destination was Dublin, Ireland. The flight from JFK to YYZ was delayed significantly which resulted in missing our connecting flight in YYZ. While in NY JFK, an Air Canada team member assisted us with rebooking our flights - this time we would be going to Toronto YYZ to London LHR and then onto our final Destination Dublin DUB. (Flight #BA098; eticket #0142320416774) This flight was also significantly delayed and we arrived in Toronto YYZ very late. At the time of our arrival, we were told by the flight attendant and the Air Canada ground staff that we would never be able to make the connecting flight above because we had to pass through passport control/customs and then take a train to the next terminal. Imagine the stress of flying from JFK to Toronto, praying you make the next flight only to arrive in another country and discover it was never a realistic booking but even more impossible given the flight was so delayed. How did the Air Canada staff not realize the improbability of this rebooking? Were they not familiar with the layout of the airport? Or, were they just wanting to move us along - pushing us off to the next team member - in a different country. At this point, we were told there were no options and we had to spend the night (and a full day) in Canada. Air Canada had the decency to provide a hotel. There were many people stranded. I heard story after story from individuals having to wait days to get to their destinations. This was horrifying to hear because I was traveling with my 11 year old son. I didn't need uncertainty. I needed competency and compassion. So, our 2nd booking was a complete fail. We would once again be rerouted - forced to go from Toronto to Amsterdam to Dublin. On Friday 13, 2026, we flew from Toronto YYZ to Amsterdam AMS where we had a small window to catch our connecting flight on KLM Airlines. We ran from our plane, exhausted, stressed, anxious, fearful - and when we arrived at our gate, yet another obstacle. I was informed by the KLM agent that my son's ticket was re-booked successfully, but my ticket had not been processed and since it was an Air Canada error there was nothing they could do. How is that possible? How do you process the child - a minor and not the parent? Furthermore, how did this ticket pass by so many Air Canada team members without a flag? How did no one realize my ticket was not re-booked correctly? In Amsterdam, sleep deprived, desperate and on a time constraint - no one could help me except Air Canada and the only way to reach them was via phone. I waited on hold for over 45 minutes only to be hung transferred without warning and then disconnected. We missed the connecting flight to Dublin. I was stranded with my son in Amsterdam. With no other options, we called Air Canada and wait for another 45 minutes on hold - eventually an agent came through for us - booking us on an Aer Lingus flight from Amsterdam to Dublin (eticket #0142320522965). I was completely devoid of energy. I was shaking and crying - afraid to disconnect from the Air Canada representative in the event there was another issue with this booking. My son - just wanted to be in Ireland, dancing and doing what he loves. This was overwhelming and unacceptable on every level. I understand that flights get delayed. But there were instances of incompetence that are indescribable. There was a lack of communication at every level and a lack of concern by Air Canada was woven throughout this journey. We landed in Dublin Ireland on Saturday February 14, 2026 - but our luggage did not. Arriving in Ireland - we were despondent. The fact that NOTHING had arrived with us was the least shocking part of this journey - but disappointing all the same. My son, my champion, had traveled 3 full days without a single complaint. He arrived to the All Ireland Irish Dance Championships - a premiere competitive event that he had been working MONTHS for - exhausted, drained and physically incapable of doing what he was so naturally made to do. This is the hardest thing. Our champion - met with trial after trial due to Air Canada's incompetency suffered the most - mentally, physically and emotionally. As a parent, it was truly heart breaking. From a financial perspective, we thought we were getting a great deal on airfare - but in the end I lost out significantly. We lost 2 nights at our premier hotel The Brehon Spa and Hotel (181.00 Euro per night). I've been traveling worldwide for years, and without question, Air Canada has been the worst airline I've ever dealt with. Not only have they crushed smaller Canadian airlines, forcing many into bankruptcy, but they hold a monopoly and clearly have no interest in properly serving small towns. My personal experience flying to my hometown of Rouyn‑Noranda twice a year has been consistently awful: every single time I've taken that route, the flight has been cancelled and pushed to the following day--sometimes twice in a row. Even the rescheduled flights are almost always delayed. The reasons vary, technical issues, lack of staff, no one available to handle luggage, and other operational failures, but the end result is the same: passengers stranded with little help. Customer service is abysmal. Their idea of compensation is two $15 voucher for more than 30h delay, which barely buys anything at an airport. If you need reimbursement for a hotel or meals due to their delays or cancellations, good luck, you'll have to go through the lengthy process of filing a complaint through the Canadian Transportation Agency to get anything at all. For years before recent law changes, I personally had to cover hotel stays and meals out of my own pocket without ever receiving proper compensation, only the occasional useless voucher. Air Canada operates like a monopoly: crushing competition, charging high prices, and yet failing to provide reliable service, not just for smaller towns but even for larger domestic and international routes. All I wanted was my missing retainer..... This is the letter I wrote to Air Canada. They have very poor customer service. They didn't deal with the issue. The response was that I shouldn't put my retainer in my check bag. You lost my item. I'm not asking for a new bag. I wanted them to replace my retainer. I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding a recent travel experience that has left me unwilling to fly with your airline again. While I understand that unforeseen circumstances, such as the storm in Montreal on Sunday, July 13, can disrupt travel plans, the handling of the situation and, specifically, the treatment of my damaged luggage, was unacceptable. Our flight was diverted to Quebec City for refueling and then returned to Montreal due to the weather. I recognize that such diversions are beyond anyone's control. My primary concern, however, lies with the inconsistent and unhelpful information provided by your staff. As a first-time Air Canada flyer, I found it incredibly frustrating that various employees offered conflicting directions regarding rebooking. My friend was sent to an upstairs area to speak with an agent, only to find no one there. After finally locating an agent, she was informed the office was closed. When I inquired at baggage claim, the response was equally unhelpful, merely confirming the closure without offering clear alternatives. We were eventually directed to call an 1-800 number, a piece of information that could have been provided much earlier and more clearly. While I saw staff redirecting people, it would have been significantly more helpful if your workers were actively assisting with rebooking to manage the large crowd. The most upsetting aspect of this experience, however, was the handling of my damaged luggage. My bag was visibly damaged and, to my dismay, thrown on the floor with my dress spilling out next to it. Instead of offering a replacement bag, the employee forced the damaged bag closed. When I expressed concern that the same issue could recur on my subsequent journey, he dismissively told me to "come back" if I had further problems, despite my belongings being scattered about. To add to my distress, I am still waiting for a response from the airline regarding missing items from my damaged bag. This oversight further compounds the negative experience and raises significant concerns about the security and care of passenger belongings. I understand that some situations are unavoidable, but a basic level of compassion and practical assistance is not an unreasonable expectation. This incident has left a very sour taste, and I will not be flying with Air Canada again. If I could give 0 I would. Landed in North America to learn out flight was completely canceled. Only 2 options: stay an entire day in Toronto or get to a city about 2 hours from our original destination. We took the latter since we needed to get home. They gave us meal vouchers we couldn't even use since boarding happened in 45 minutes and it took so long to get through TSA and customs that we had to sprint to our gate. Upon arrival, we tried to see if we could switch the meal vouchers to this airport since we had not eaten in about 9 hours. Staff could not answer us or maybe they just didn't want to try. The cherry on top? Our baggage was nowhere to be found. Before confirming the new tickets, I even asked the agent 2 times if our bags would also be rerouted; he said yes....It took 2 days until we had our bags. And they got there at 4 a.m. so I had to be awake for that. (They got delayed then too so actually arrived at 8 a.m.) We had to Uber from the airport to our house since no rental car companies were allowing one way travel. Prepaid for Bistro meal and the Toronto lounge and even though we proved payment - not served the meal and denied lounge access. Customer service is even more rude and nasty and they do not help. Literally the worst airline by a mile. Cancels our flight with no warning and only notifies one member of our party (out of 12 people). Their phone service is over an hour wait only for them to say they can reschedule another flight for 3 days later, which doesn't help since hotels and activities were already booked . They cancel whenever a flight isn't completely sold out and lie about cancelling "due to the weather". We had to rush to the airport and figure out how to get standby seats on other flights by ourselves in order to still make our trip possible. I have flown to Montreal from New York City frequently on Air Canada. They are constantly delayed and often cancelled. Last time, our flight was cancelled and ultimately delayed by 27 hours. They told us we were entitled to a cash compensation but then made it impossible to retrieve. The customer service is absolutely horrible. The airline is frustratingly incompetent. This is hands down the worst airline. Overpriced, dirty planes, and lazy staff. My flight headed home was delayed because the staff spotted an issue with the tire AFTER the plane had already boarded. They forced everyone off the plane, which resulted in a significant delay. The flight was then diverted to Hartford, CT, which is nowhere near where we were supposed to land. The staff couldn't have cared less that we were left stranded. I was forced to pay a significant amount of money just to get home, and therefore I submitted a reimbursement claim. The airline denied the claim, erroneously contending that the flight had been cancelled because staff had to work longer than usual. In reality, the flight was cancelled because the staff negligently failed to inspect the plane before passengers had boarded. Very negative experience with Air Canada. Still, a month later, I am fighting them because they lied about a flight being canceled due to "weather" so they wouldn't have to reimburse. The first flight we took with them was the smallest seats I've ever seen on an airplane; sooo uncomfortable thank god I was with my friend. Gate agents at LGA were RUDE as can be. Called us over to the gate, then wouldn't tell us why because "it's too late"? We had to wait in line to speak to them then they acted like we intentionally were ignoring them or something. Very weird and aggressive energy. We all approached friendly and ready with our information and they treated us like garbage for no reason. The other issues are too long to type but essentially our flight home was canceled after we sat on the runway for two hours. No person working at the Toronto airport for Air Canada would help us at all. They just pushed us to the next person and told us to call their phone line; not helpful for a time sensitive matter like travel. We had to stay overnight in a hotel room, get booked into a flight with a connection the next day (which our initial flight was DIRECT, very intentionally), I lost a day of work, my brother had to visit urgent care in Toronto...all around a massive inconvenience and which resulted in each of us spending more money. Now, a month later, they're saying we're not entitled to anything but as a "good will gesture" I can have 25% off my next flight with them. Oh gee, thanks so much, but absolutely no thanks. My trust with this airline is broken entirely. They could have resolved this on the day of the canceled flight and chose to make the most incoherent process instead and create very angry and disappointed customers. I got to the airport, and as I was about to get on my flight, the agent told Me "you can't travel to Canada with a card passport, has to be the book passport". I told her, "I was told when I got the card passport I can fly to Canada with it, AND I ALREADY FLEW ONCE TO CANADA WITH THE PASSPORT PART AND NO BOOKLET PASSPORT!" She was very rude and said,"You must've gone by bus because we never let anyone travel from US to Canada by passport card." She thinks she knows better than me how I traveled. I even showed her the time, date, and email confirmation of when I traveled to Canada with my card passport. Not only did she not let me get on that flight, but she wouldn't let me change to a future flight. She then calls the airport security to have me removed. As I was being walked away by the security guy, he told me, "I'm sorry this happened to you. This lady clearly doesn't know how to do her job right. You're 100% right that we used to allow people to fly from US to Canada with the card passport, but unfortunately that law changed a few months ago and now we all have to travel with a booklet passport. She should've at least been understanding and offered you a refund or to put you on a future flight. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do, though." And that's not even the worst part. What's worse is that I called. Air Canada's customer service, told them "I was not made aware of the recent changes to the law that we can no longer take our passport cards onto flights from US to Canada and that i not allowed to fly because of this. Can i please get a refund?" and they wouldn't even give me a refund. The customer service agent said, "It's not my problem you weren't aware of the law changes!" I explained to her, "but everything has to be done online these days! It's not like the passed, where we talked to actual humans (travel agents) where there was someone who would ask us 'are you aware of this/that rule changes?' Were forced to order all our flight tickets online. It's not like there's some magical internet thingy telling us every time there's a major law change!" Booked a United Flight and Air Canada came up as a Codeshare upon arrival to YOW. Flew on an CRJ 100 plane which was configured in a 2+2 All Economy cabin with a motorized door w/ stairs. There was one Quebecois flight attendant that was definitely much more senior upon closer examination. Service was okay for the ~53 minutes of flying time. I don't ever leave bad reviews or really take the time to leave reviews in general, but if I could help prevent another pet owner and pet from flying on Air Canada and experiencing animal cruelty, then I absolutely will. The flight attendants were extremely aggressive with my small 10 pound dog and put hands on him during the flight when he was overtly in distraught. The Air Canada flight attendants had no decency or moral compass and kept harassing me, my dog, and others in flight. I was also in distraught and have tried to inform their customer service after my flight to ensure they're aware of the inappropriate behavior from their flight attendants. It's been over a month and still no response for a resolution. Very shame on them!!! Do not fly with Air Canada if you plan to have your dog in cabin. I could not imagine having them in cargo would be any better. I have been on many flights with my dog and never have I ever experience such cruel and horrific treatment!!! read more

We bought tickets months in advance. The flight to San Francisco was fine. We get our boarding passes for our return flight. They are labeled "ON STANDBY" What In The Actual F??? We go to the gate and the personnel there say "seat assignments will be given out 5 or 10 minutes before actual boarding." They assured us we will get seats. That is not my understanding of what "ON STANDBY" means. So, now we are sitting here, waiting for our seat assignments for tickets we purchased 2 months ago. Extremely delayed flight from YYZ (Toronto Pearson Airport) to LGA (NYC LaGuardia Airport) due to so-called "maintenance issues" of the aircraft. The standard duration is 1.5 hours which turned into a big nightmare of five (5) long haul hours. Why load a plane full of passengers and cargo to learn there is a problem with the aircraft? Did the aircraft pass an maintenance inspection before departure? Why perform a last minute maintenance check before departure? Why did it take so long for YYZ ground crew to arrive at our aircraft site to verify and fix the problem? Why were there no aircraft engineers employed by YYZ airport available? Upon checking the departure boards at YYZ airport the flight status stated "on time" which is bogus as it was never changed to "very delayed." Being stuck inside a Airbus A319 for five hours glaring into a small window at YYZ airport terminals is not fun to pass a day. Why not change planes already? Airbus A319-100 (M) - 1st plane scheduled departure 2:45 pm Airbus A320-200 (M-1) - 2nd plane actual departure time 8 pm All the flight attendants expressed empathy as they were trying to ease the situation by offering free head phones (normally head phones is CAN $3), pretzels, water, and the pilots turn on the TV entertainment system. Several flight attendants took the time to explained our ongoing question: "can we change planes?" It is procedure for airport ground crew to fix or replace the maintenance issue first and then if the issue(s) cannot be repaired another plane will be issued. At 7 pm we were instructed to discharge the faulty Airbus A319-100 (M) plane and wait for instruction to change planes and change gates. We ultimately landed at LGA at 9:33 pm which was an all day event. The charge for one check-in baggage is USD$25 paid for our outgoing flight upon purchasing our airline ticket. Our return trip from Toronto to NYC the charge varied from CAN$38.10 to CAN$31.80 because the airline boast the price higher for U.S. citizens returning to the U.S. intentionally. Air Canada is a very professional and efficient airline. I flew with them to Beijing, and then back home from Shanghai. Important points: they will insert your carry-on into the little fence thing, and if it doesn't fit, they will check it in. You do get a free checked bag, along with your personal item. There's WiFi available for purchase, but my friend used it and said it was pretty weak. They gave us three full meals, along with biscuits, pretzels, and beverages. The seats are pretty tight, which wasn't an issue for a short person like me, but most around me felt cramped. The flight attendants were super kind and thoughtful. On the way there, there was a sandwich that I chose not to have, and one of them brought me fruit to replace it. I appreciated that! Their in-flight entertainment was dope: they had recent movies, podcasts, TV shows, games, and audiobooks. And most importantly, there were no delays or issues in getting there and back. I'd fly with them again, for sure. All these non-American airlines make ours look so bad! Great service, Air Canada! read more

Dec. 3, my husband and I was going to Montreal. Our flight leaves at 0640, arrived at the airport at 0435. Problem was, I didn't receive my covid test at the time we were checking in, my husband got his. Because my test result is not in at time of check in, I was not able to complete my ArriveCAN app, we were both a wreck. Susan, the ticket lady, addressed each of our problems in a calm manner. My husband took the scheduled flight while I either wait for the email of my test result or have another test done at the airport which opens at 0900. My test result email came in at 0830. Susan was not around when I checked in, Patricia, the ticket lady is the one who helped me. While I was checking in, Susan arrived and she remembered me. Both ticket ladies were helpful, calm and patient with an anxious me. Shout out to both of them, you ladies are wonderful!!! read more

The email is wrong information that caused a 6 hour delay to hour trip to Quebec City, missing multiple reservation then on our way home they lost three of our luggage and gave us no voucher for food, or cab for losing 3 hours of our time. Air Canada has been by far the worst airline I've ever gotten on, and I got on Spirit so that's saying a lot. Also all the staff were rude to us while we were struggling from the Air Canada mis information. Only one that were nice and understanding was the Air Canada baggage service in LGA. read more

After reading the reviews of Air Canada, here on Yelp I was nervous and anxious about taking Air Canada from LaGuardia-NYC to Montreal and Montreal to Dallas-DFW. All our flights departed and arrived on time. Check in was simple, even with the passports. The seats in coach were typical of airlines. We did have "outs" on some of the food items on the return trip, but they did not charge us for what we did have since we had to make so many adjustments. They also gave the kids free headphones on the return flight. I did find their notification system via text to be less than helpful. We also had difficulties in Montreal figuring exactly where to take our luggage after we checked in. For the record, you go beyond the desks. You can put a family together even if you have paid for a bag per person. If you have a "soft" bag or a bag with straps, you will need to put the bag in a container. Since we didn't have any problems, we didn't have to work with customer service. At this point though we wouldn't hesitate to fly Air Canada again. read more

We booked a return flight NY-Toronto months ahead, a flight that's usually $180 and paid $300. Then we were expected to pay to be seated together we, despite our reservation being under the same name. Then they expected us to pay $30 for a single piece of checked baggage. On the way back it had magically gone up in prize to $40 (no explanation why it was now an extra $10. They also charge for headphones. You'd think with "canada" in their name, the government would do something to resolve the airline's despicable lack of care for customer service or needs and preserve the respect of their country. Horrible service at @AirCanada business class in Newark-Toronto flight AC7649 this morning. Was literally first to board the plane, and the gate agent forced me to check my carry-on. I brought it to the plane & demonstrated that it easily fit in the overhead bin, but the gate agent refused to budge, even though the very nice / rational flight attendants agreed with me. The overhead bin above me was literally empty at takeoff. For a business route, as a business traveler with United/Air Canada status, I was resoundingly disappointed in the lack of rationality & customer service demonstrated by the Air Canada staff today. read more

I booked a trip to China & Air Canada was the airline included with the trip. Going to china we had a stop in Toronto boarding was quick & take off was on time nice way to begin my trip. First round of flights were ok a bit uncomfortable because I was stuck in the middle row which was a row of 4 seats talk about a tight squeeze. Coming back home was a lot nicer since this time it was a row of 3 way more comfortable specially for such a long trip. Meals served were decent going to China I had the chicken & rice not bad, they gave us cup of noodles as a snack too funny but hit the spot & breakfast was eggs good but wasn't crazy about the red sauce with it, wine & beer Included made for an easier flight. Going home also had the chicken this was good nice sauce, snack in between was a veggie sandwich ahh nothing special & breakfast was eggs, sausage & potatoes this was good. Nice service on the plane, great tv options with plenty too choose from. Flight going to China was good everything on time coming home it was delayed a bit but not by much still manage to land on time. Everything ran pretty smoothly nice flight experience will keep this airline in mind. read more

I've taken many airlines and have been extremely disappointed with my experience at air Canada. I've attached a photo of the information they emailed us prior to our flight saying if you are vaccinated you do not need to have a covid test. When we arrived surprise surprise we did need a covid test. We got no help from the check in desk outside of directions on where to get the test and missed our flight. When we called the number we were told to call they tried to charge us over 900 dollars to rebook, our original tickets were 500. For 900 we could literally fly to Iceland. Their customer service team told us that if we email their representatives online to make a complaint they would get back to us in 2-3 days, it's been a week and we still have not been contacted. Finally we went back to check in and the staff gave us same day tickets for 150 each after we persisted that we could not afford to pay 900 for a one way flight. Lastly on the way back our luggage did not arrive. Any guesses to where we are right now? Two hours later we are still in their airport waiting for our luggage to arrive 2 hours after our flight landed. Air Canada you have the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Speaking to any other potential customers, if their is another choice in airline stay away from this one. read more

* Sloppy * I just got back from a circle trip to Montreal and New York. I ended up on the return from New York to Vancouver having to fly Air Canada from Laguardia to Toronto and then connecting on to Vancouver as there were no non-stops available. First the positives: 1) The flight attendant on the New York to Toronto greeted me with a, "Good to see you again." (We had been on the same flight about 10 days earlier from Vancouver to Montreal.) It gave me flashbacks to a flight on Cathay a while back (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/cathay-pacific-airways-richmond#hrid:pWOyeGxfm6B7Yjg_Zp_daw) where the flight attendant greeted me by name before I handed over a boarding card! He was very friendly, and provided good service on the first flight. I think he is a fairly new hire as he was standby crew. Hopefully he continues with his enthusiasm as he stays. 2) The equipment from New York to Toronto had a 1-2 configuration and I got a nice single seat. 3) The equipment from Toronto to Vancouver was an international service plane as it was going on to Hong Kong. So it had the lay flat seat pods. That was a nice surprise for a domestic flight. And the room for improvement: 1) In New York they sent me to the Star Alliance lounge (operated by Continental), which is located before security up an escalator kind of close to the parkade. Sadly after schlepping up and finding the lounge I arrived and it was already closed for the day. It was only 4:30pm and Air Canada had several more flights that day. WTF?!?!?!?! They really should have a lounge contract that works for all of their flights. Sloppy planning. 2) The inflight entertainment is nice to have at every seat - but I fully exhausted the offerings way too quickly. To say the selection is limited is a major understatement. For some odd reason Air Canada also has a bunch of extra buttons on the system which all give you an error message about the function not yet being available. It has been like this since they first put in the system! Sloppy. 3) The procedure to connect from a US flight to domestic in Toronto is a bit of a pain. You clear immigration, go through the baggage claim (reclaim bags if you checked them - I got to skip that part thankfully), clear customs (ridiculously long line collecting the customs forms), exit into the arrivals area, find your way to an elevator and get upstairs to go back through full airport security with the people starting their trip in Toronto. There is poor flow, poorly marked in terms of signage, and generally a hassle overall. Air Canada could pressure Toronto to make a smoother procedure for its customers. It certainly has a large enough presence in the airport! 4) On the flight from Toronto to Vancouver I arrived at my seat to find the arm rests sticky with something that looked like spilled soda. They clearly had not cleaned the plane since it arrived. Sloppy! Anyhoo.....The semi-monopoly power shows overall. I guess it is fair to say there is a reason I do not fly Air Canada unless I absolutely have to. They are better than the various major carriers from the States. But that is a fairly sad comparison group! read more

My sister flew from Edmonton to NYC to see our nephew who is dying from pancreatic cancer. She was booked to return last Sunday. We arrived at the airport and the flight was cancelled. They rebooked her fro Tuesday at 11:15. we drove back to the airport on Tuesday and the flight was delayed, delayed, delayed so her travel back to Edmonton would take almost 19 hours. They rebooked her for today. We drove back to the airport and the flight was again delayed. We spoke to the manager "Tony" who was mean, disrespectful and unsympathetic to the situation we are in. Each day we have spent 4 hours going to and coming from the airport. We asked only that she be rebooked on the earlier 6 am flight so that she would be able to make the connection from Toronto to Edmonton, but "Tony" just told us he too experiences delays when he flies to Paris. Uncaring, insensitive, unreliable, and awful. Try United - might be more friendly. Definitely don't fly Air Canada when you are older or upset. Covid is still a thing and they will have you sitting in an airport for HOURS before they find a little heart to rebook you. read more

Do not fly in this airline. The quality of the staff says a lot about the quality of management in any given company which in this case is very poor. Starting with the employees in the counter and ending with the "manager" at La Guardia Airport in NY, how can I phrase it in one word... Mediocre! I had to fly this airline as part of a connecting flight to Germany back in March and wont ever fly in it again even if they are cheaper than other airlines. On the other hand, Air Canada personnel in Montreal was very pleasant and helpful and couldn't believe the how poorly the staff at La Guardia performed. Waste of your money!! Take a better airline! Scam. Asked for refund, got processed, waiting for money, and two months later was informed the refund could not be processed, and ask us to do a date change on the same flight, and make up the difference in price, plus 200 process fee. My friend had similar experience, when she was about to take the flight, she was informed that her visa is not valid for transition in Canada. She had to book from another airline and leave. Air Canada didn't refund her anything. When you are booking and have inquiries about visa in Canada, they never answer it right away. If you don't get that figured out, they will be happy to save a seat and cancel your flight without refunding you. The most unfriendly airline ever. I will suggest all international travelers to avoid it, especially international students. It maybe a little cheaper, but it could turn into a scam and waste of your money. read more

The Air Canada counters at LaGuardia are understaffed. At 11am the line up was huge for both baggage drop-off and check-in. The end of the line even extended to the next airliner's area, that's how bad it was. The actual flight to Toronto was fine. read more

I think air canada is a great budget type airline. Free meals included in the international flights, in flight entertainment, wine, blankets and pillows...aircanada was a FAR better experience than United was for me while taking the same flight. I will certainly fly aircanada again - why not? The comfortable seats and oddly decent food for a plane meal make it hard to say no to! I recommend you consider air canada. But - if you are a hearty or taller passenger considering purchasing an extra space seat. Other than this (which is common for most airlines) I say this airline has impressed me greatly. One star only because I don't see how to give zero stars. I normally don't resort to trashing businesses and instead choose to give them the feedback. I wrote this letter to Air Canada on August 14, almost two months ago. Remarkably, I have not even received a response! This is the worst airline and worst customer service experience I have had in over forty years of flying. Here's the letter: This week was my first ever Air Canada flight as I now have business in Montreal. My 8pm flight from Montreal to Laguardia on August 11 (7642) was announced as delayed until 11pm shortly before 8pm. An announcement was made that the incoming equipment lifted off and we were told that we should be wheels up by 11:15pm. Shortly before 11 the gate attendant announced that she had to go to another gate to help with a different flight and assured us she would be back shortly. About ten minutes later the flight was cancelled. I only found out as some of the passengers received email. The gate attendant never came back. No one from Air Canada came to the gate for another fifteen minutes while all of the passengers wondered how to get out and what to do. No staff at the gate at the time of the announcement or for at least fifteen minutes afterwards?!? I was issued a hotel voucher and meal voucher. The meal voucher was not sufficient to pay for the least expensive breakfast item on the menu. I was told 3:30pm the next day (8/12) was the earliest I could depart. I called in the morning on the 12th and was told I could go standby on the 10:50 (flight 7634). Happily I did get a seat. When I was confirmed at approximately 10am, I was told my luggage would be pulled off the later flight and placed on the 10:50 (now delayed to 11:15). With more than an hour until departure I was assured there would be no problem. My luggage did not make it onto my flight. I filed a claim at the airport and was told that my baggage would be delivered to my home by noon on Saturday (8/13). I spent the morning at the house waiting for delivery. Guess what. No bag by noon. I wasted another five hours waiting for my bag on top of the five hours in the terminal on Thursday and three hours securing the seat and waiting for the plane on Friday. So thirteen wasted hours. At 12:45pm I am told that my bag is still at the airport (why is it still there?) and it will be delivered SOME TIME today, no idea when. So I am required to stay at my home all day because your organization is unable to give me a delivery window, something that EVERY company that delivers is able to do. I got it a 9pm. The inconvenience and lack of any professional assistance from Air Canada staff until almost midnight was the most significant failure of customer service in the airline industry I have experienced in my forty years of extensive business and personal travel. read more

Flight was cancelled, no emails or text messages were sent notifying us, we found out as we headed to our gate, that's when we saw it on the screen. We head over to the long line of customer service to put us on another flight or simply to make us aware of what alternative options we had. Mostly everyone was helpful except for one particular person, Huma. Huma why are you even working in customer service when you embody the contrary. I stood nearby and watched how she handled customers with similar situations as mine. She was unhelpful and lacked empathy. Yes we know, it's not your fault our flights got cancelled, however, it is your job to help resolve these issues to the best of your ability and maintain courtesy. I saw customers suggest to her how to resolve their issue and there she stood emotionless as if she would rather be somewhere else rather then there. Well honey, we all would rather be somewhere else then there, how about our flight the airline canceled? Or maybe we would like to be at our destination?
