Aiko-san is a rare dedicated artisan-tailor. If the 1980's Neiman Marcus were here, they would scoop her up immediately to tailor their fine couture pieces! I am especially partial and proud of her for I am a third generation Japanese American " sansei". She is first generation native born, and lives by rare old world values and does beautiful work on all her pieces whether simple hems to more complex extensive fittings of fine garments. In the very early 70's right out of college I found myself as a personal shopper at Bloomies in Manhattan with the likes of Mrs John Hay Whitney to Patricia Lawford and pioneer female attorneys at 20th Century Fox Studios who inhaled Chanel suits as soon as they were marked down. I can sew and made my own clothes when I was young. This woman is a genius. I have brought her everything from hems with difficult fabric, to detailed leather jackets to repair, to taking in clothes when I lost weight. I always go to another place for alterations but she was closed so I figured I'd give her a try. I have to get a lot of my clothes altered often bc I have a physical disability and all my clothes needed be taken in after gaining weight from surgeries I lost it after post op. I brought in a dress to be altered. First she seemed annoyed at the fact that when she was trying to put pins in to alter properly, I have Dystonia a movement disorder and my right shoulder is higher. I got my dress back and it was completely crooked looking. And still not fitted properly. I have not gone back to address this issue yet and pick up my remaining items so I don't want to turn people away bc of one bad experience but I will follow up with how she resolves the issue. The alterations cost twice as much as the dress I had returned with my issues or concerns but once she explained to me the reason behind why the dress still seemed oddly fit it was not her but the dress and how it was made and bc it was designed cut under arms to low she explained you can't fix fit properly with fabric that doesn't exist. read more

Went there this past weekend on a recommendation from a friend. Needed to see, if to me, was a complicated bustle skirt /costume could in fact be altered to fit me. Owner ? friendly at first, had me change into skirt, all OK until I come out of dressing room. Pushing and pulling me in every direction without asking me to move. Repeatedly asking why didn't you bring your shoes ? Because I didn't even know if she could alter this item, but I didn't even get to say this. Nope, not using this one. Good enough work but FYI they do not take credit or debit. I was charged $12.84 to have a letter sewn on a jacket that took a week and a half. After walking around looking for an ATM (I didn't want to loose the parking spot I had finally found) I went back with my cash. Have never rated a business here, or any other site,before. Just had a very bad experience with Aiko's. Had straps put on jacket sleeves and provided another jacket to use as a guide. I had to provide hook and loop fabric as well as some webbing for the straps. No problem, I did not expect her to have that on hand. The straps added were not done as discussed. And two of four were not installed. I asked about it and received an argument, was told to get more hook and loop and she would add the other straps. I provided 3 feet of the fabric and she used 15 inches so there should be 21 inches remaining-but she "used" all she got. Was told the cost would be "under $50" When I got only an argument and no acknowledgement of her mistake, I gave her $50 and walked out-I will never go back. Poor customer service and no attempt to acknowledge the problem or offer to make it right. Find another place for your alterations-you'll be better off for doing so. read more
