A suave, it was a perfect pair! The homemade tagliolini was prepared JUST right, with just a small delicious edge of al dente. Her homemade tiramisu (light, airy, creamy and the 6th best out of 2500 Venice restaurants) with a small glass of moscato was the perfect ending. EXCELLENT RESTAURANT. Run here, it will be worth it.

Absolutely avoid this restaurant…read more This is by far one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at. When we arrived around lunchtime, there was only one other table occupied and the restaurant was practically empty. That should have been a warning sign. We should have walked out right then. The food was not good at all. I ordered seafood spaghetti, but most of the mussels were nothing but empty shells with hardly any meat inside. They also charged us €6 for stale, dry, leftover bread that was placed on the table. And we were charged €73 in total for this poor-quality food and service. I honestly feel that we were completely ripped off. This is nothing more than a dishonest tourist-trap restaurant. I simply cannot understand how this place has received such high ratings. After my experience, I can only assume that some of the people who gave it such high ratings must have some connection to the restaurant. I strongly recommend staying away from this place.

Reservations for dinner were hard to come by, but I was able to slide into a 1:30pm time slot for lunch on a Thursday. What also stood out for me about Osterial alla Testiere was that they get fish fresh from The Rialto Market every morning. Whatever fish they find to their liking will be on the menu for that day. The restaurant was small and probably seated up to 20 people max at one time. That said, it felt very cozy and intimate, so much so we made friends with the couple at the neighboring table. The food was paced really well, and the servers were friendly and helpful. We started off with the octopus salad. A simple dish with the simplest, freshest ingredients. I don't think I've had avocado in all of Italy, so they were a real treat. For our first dish, we got the gnochetti with prawns. I've only had gnocchi once the entire trip, and this was by far the better one. My husband got sweet and sour prawns "besora" style. The sauce was very flavorful, and the shrimp were plump and perfectly cooked. My turbot dish was the star. Again, cooked simply with a flavor forward olive oil. Loved the bursts of flavor from the tomatoes and olives. Lastly, we had a side of fresh veggies from their garden including haricots verts, carrots, yellow squash, and a veggie that was like green chard. They were sauteed and well seasoned. I've been craving veggies during my trip, so I ate up the veggies like it was my job.

Al Garzoti doesn't have any of these things, with their name only appearing inside on the bar. Service is nothing to write home about; our waiter who looked like a young Nick Jonas, minus the charm, barely interacted with us, but the food he brought us was wonderful! If you've already had some pizza while in Italy, then go with a calzone instead. They are large and a great value, too. Note the ingredients first, though; Italians do not like substitutions. I tried a pezzo di pizze with ham and that too, was great!

The dining room is a living gallery -- walls packed with hundreds of paintings and sketches gifted by patrons over a century. Among them: cartoons of Ernest Hemingway in a hilariously manic duck-hunting scene -- and his signature even adorns their guestbooks. We ordered the legendary "risotto digò" (go‑fish risotto) -- a creamy, umami-packed delight. No cream; just perfectly cooked rice in a deeply flavored fish broth made the texture silky and indulgentTruly, risotto that feels like history on a plate. "A taste of history and tradition" is no exaggeration -- this dish and entire atmosphere are one-of-a-kind. From four generations of love to the art-lined walls, every detail made our meal "unique and awesome."

As a vegetarian, I was afraid I wouldn't get to try any cicchetti as it typically contains meat, or I'm charged the same price for cheese alone. Trattoria de Romano has a variety of cicchetti that ranges in price depending on the ingredients. There was a great variety of vegetable based options, each for only €1.50. I tried the pomodoro, the asparagus cream, the pumpkin cream, and the artichoke cream. The pumpkin cream was my absolute favorite as it was sweet and smooth, but with the pumpkin flavor strong and authentic, not fake or sugary. The artichoke was my second favorite, followed by the asparagus and pomodoro. Pomodoro was delicious and bright, the tomatoes covered in garlic and basil, but it was my own bad for getting a less unique choice, which is why it is listed last. For my beverage, of course, I chose a spritz, a Spritz Bitter, which was a wonderful complement and much larger than others I have ordered, without being watered down either! Service was quick and kind, even giving me recommendations (which has been rare in Italy haha) Stop by and try a few bites!

Not able to comment on the food.... We didn't get that far!…read moreMy husband worked from the hotel and took a quick nap (jet lag) while I did some fun Venice shopping. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately in hindsight) I had a quick lunch alone. We had walked by the place the night before and it looked like a good time. It was rainy, so outside was not an option. There was one couple eating inside at prime dinner time (another clue). We were dressed nicely- aware of the prices and my husband was starving. We ordered drinks, the very disgruntled looking waiter stepped away; we made our decisions, closed our menus and he returned. Given I had a late lunch/snack, I ordered an appetizer and a salad (more than equal to the price of an entree), my husband ordered one of the most expensive seafood pastas. The waiter looked at me again and asked what my entree would be. I politely told him I had a late lunch and this would be plenty for me. He DEMANDED we order 2 entrees. I said we were more than willing and capable of paying for our meal, but am not in the habit of wasting food and if I wanted more I would order more. He told us no. Assuming our drinks were already being made, we said we would have our drinks and leave. Again he said no- "this is a restaurant, not a bar! WOW, enough said, we got up to leave and he shouted "5 euros for the water"! We weee so shocked we forgot to take the water! This is how I wound up at Muro Venezia - Frari my first evening in Venice. Arriving to what looked like a full restaurant, I was happy to be seated al fresco along with everyone else who'd heeded the message to come here. Service, food, and ambiance were all quite good. Over beer, wine, a shared starter of assorted meatballs, and a shared pizza I found nothing to dislike. In fact, by the end of my 5 night stay I was almost ready to return here rather than risk having a mediocre meal elsewhere. You'll walk by a million restaurants in Venice, most looking almost identical to one another. Muro Venezia - Frari looks similar but it has a different, better energy. It's busy for a good reason. Stop, and see if there's a table for you.
