He never mentioned that she should have a follow-up echo and that she should be on blood thinners. He always pushed her off onto his physician assistants who rotated through his office. He is incompetent I don't know if it's because of his age and he should just retire or if he's always been this way. He also didn't notice for 20 years that my mother needed hip replacement. She called him complaining that she needed PT because her walking was getting difficult and he never called her in to evaluate her. He just ga e her the PT prescription without seeing her. The PT could tell right away that she needed she need hip replacement and sent her off for an x-ray why couldn't Dr Koop have done this for her? What does he do at the office? His wife is the office secretary. Maybe this is another issue.

Their customer service is terrible. Impossible to get in touch with them on the phone. Their "answering service" puts you on hold for 30-45 minutes regularly (record: 1+ hour). Sometimes to get in touch with them, you have to call, get put on hold for 10-15 minutes, hang up, call them again, etc. It doesn't make sense for such a great doctor's office to have such a big weakness in an easily addressable area. Should be easy to fix, if they prioritize it. You got this, Needham Gastroenterology Associates!

As if that weren't enough, he never responded to my written outreach/concerns about my experience. Rather, he ignored them as if the encounter never happened. That lack of professionalism is astounding to me. Eventually, I found competent doctors in the Brigham/MGH system who had both the expert knowledge and a beside manner to get me the proper diagnosis and medical treatment I required. You are going to have to wait for an appointment wherever you go so make the wait worth your while and go elsewhere. If my experience is typical, you will not get expert care from this practitioner.

He guided me through every procedure and process of my treatment, making a point to explain everything calmly and thoroughly and reminding me that I could always call the office in case of more questions or unexpected issues. And totally unrelatedly, I found his mustache fascinating. As a female, housing an entire forest on your upper lip just seems incredible to me.

After several phone calls to him, the insurance company, and the biller, I gave up - I didn't want to hurt my credit - and paid over $400 for anesthesia which should have been fully covered. Be advised that if you go to him for a routine procedure, he may not submit it that way. He clearly does not care about his patients and I would never use him again.
