First of all, they give a first responder discount of 10% which I really appreciate! They started extending that extent to RNs during the pandemic so yay for me. It's also really close to a lot of places where I run errands so very convenient. I did notice that they offer a slightly less variety of toppings than they used to. I really miss those pickled radishes. But everything is always vibrant and fresh. My go to is the regular bowl and I get the salmon and the spicy tuna. They're spicy tuna is so yummy! Perfect level of heat without overpowering the flavor of the fish. Depending on my mood, I'll get half salad and half rice or sometimes I'll get half salad and half seaweed noodles if they are available. One of the only places I've been to that has those seaweed noodles and I love them. I like to mix the spicy mayo, garlic soy, and sesame oil for my sauce. The interior of the restaurant is always clean and they do have a bathroom available as well for customers. They recently disabled the soda machine, but it's still there and you buy cans of soda instead. It looks a little junky just sitting there with paper covering it. read more

I am a huge fan of poke. When the trend became popular in San Diego about 10 year ago, I was eating poke at least once a week. Though Ahipoke is definitely not my favorite poke restaurant in town, I am grateful that it is located in my neighborhood so I can get a poke fix. This is your typical poke restaurant where you can choose your base (salad or white rice), your size, your proteins, sauces, and toppings. I have been going to this place periodically for the past five years or so. I notice that the service is where better when the man who is presumably the owner is working. There have been a variety of young workers there, most who didn't seem much to care about the service. I will say that I'm not a fan of various fish mixtures that they have, so I usually choose a combination of salmon and tuna. The fish doesn't always look as fresh as at tome other poke places, but it has never tasted off. I generally have enjoyed my meal. I don't like that they charge for avocado and do not have masago. All in all, this might not be my first choice in poke places, but it is decent, conveniently located, and can satisfy a craving. read more

No. The fishy smell when we first walked in made me a little uneasy but my husband wanted to give this place a try. Some of the ingredients didn't look fresh and the wasabi was a super unusual green play dough color. I became extremely concerned when I went to use the bathroom. The disgusting and intensely strong scent of urine in there was so overwhelmingly strong - it literally made me gag. I then go to stir my bowl up. Took one bite, spat it out and then threw the entire bowl away. Why? The tuna was extremely fishy. Did not taste fresh at all. Some of the mixed greens had that black slime on them. Rice was super dry. Thinking of how they could let the bathroom get to that point of filth and deem it acceptable for paying customers was incredibly concerning then tasting the ultra fishy tuna made me not want to take a chance on their level of care for food safety. My husbands tuna was also very fishy and while he ate a bit more than I did - he ended up throwing his away as well. While they may follow all food safety guidelines to a T and I'm not saying that they don't. But I didn't like the fishy taste of the bowl so I couldn't eat it. I used to manage a popular poke shop in the past, I love poke and have eaten at many different shops in Hawaii, other parts of the US and in Canada. This was the worst poke I've ever had. We would not go back and I highly recommend they hire someone to do a deep clean and disinfecting of the bathroom and return on a regular basis to keep it clean. It was the most disgusting smelling bathroom I've ever been to in my life. The found is great, but the process is painful. When we got there, only one person (possible owner) was working the counter (no big deal). He was at the register checking someone out and came over to us to tell us that the card reader was down and they were only accepting cash; we said no problem. We placed have our order, and between making the two bowls, a second employee came out to finish making them and the first employee went back to register - he then came back a few minutes later to tell us the card reader was down and confirmed we were paying cash and then asked to see out cash. Showed him we had cash and he let the other employee finish making our order. We get to the register and the employee who asked to see our cash gives us a total. We pay him in cash but did not get our change; the employee said they do not have any cash on hand. One of our bowls was more expensive than the other (no extras were added), when asked about it the employee said "that's the price". The prices listed do not match other menus and marketing materials, and in four different places we found conflicting prices with a $2-$4 difference depending on which item you looked at. I like that they had a lot of options and there were some things that's I haven't seen at other places such as corn, pineapple, furikake, and eel sauce. The staff here are super nice. The lady in front of me had never had poke before so the guy assisting her was super helpful and offering suggestions and explaining what some ingredients were. The guy who helped me was also very nice as well and super generous when scooping that the lid couldn't even fit on! Overall a good option if you're in the area and want poke. We showed them our receipt and order and they hesitated to make the order. After showing them multiple times that we had paid, this was the correct place, and this was our order they finally made it.
