Cuisine: 7 Service: 6…read moreDecor: 5 Value: 8 Overall: 7 Whenever I fly in or out of Charlotte, I try stopping here for a meal, or at least a snack. Simply put, it's hard to find Laos cuisine in NYC, so I take advantage of having some authentic Laos food when I can. First of all, I am a huge fan of their Pork Sausages with that awesome green chili paste/sauce. Great snap on every bite, with crumbly and juicy interior, slightly sweet. Add that touch of heat from the green chili and it's a perfect appetizer or snack. I like most of the other foods I have tried here, including their Papaya Salad, Pad Kraprow, Beef Ball & Shredded Chicken Noodle Soup, and Pork Ribs. Nothing that will blow your mind if you are familiar with good quality Laos or Thai cuisine, but still very good and affordable. The most interesting thing I ate here though was Balut. If you know what that is, then you are either excited or grossed out. I have had it before, so I know what I was getting myself into. This version was solid, especially with that yummy chili dipping sauce. Regardless of if you are adventurous or not, definitely come here to try some authentic Laos food. I am not an expert, but what I had so far has been worth revisiting.

The Laos Sausage with the Sticky rice was absolutely amazing! We also had the 6 piece Fried wings with the green chili sauce which was super juicy and crispy with the perfect seasoning and marinade. Will definitely be coming back when we visit! Thanks everyone for some spectacular food and service!

Hidden Gem Stopped…read morein after realizing the new Catawba Two Kings Casino still has limited food options. Found this spot online, open on a Sunday evening, and decided to give it a try. It was packed just after 7 PM, but I was seated immediately. Drinks hit the table within minutes -- super efficient. The menu is huge, and they carry all the Asian beers (Sapporo, Kirin, etc.), which was a nice surprise. I ordered the crab Rangoon, Thai fried rice, and the shrimp teriyaki plate. Everything came out piping hot and incredibly fresh -- you can taste the difference here. Portions were solid, flavors were on point, and nothing felt rushed or sloppy. Service is a 10/10. You can feel the family vibe -- everyone working together in harmony, smooth, friendly, and the place is clean with good energy. Highly recommend. I'll be back on the next casino run

It was on a Sunday at lunchtime and it wasn't busy, just one large table of about six people. The restaurant is a small but cute and clean. We sat down and we both got water and our waitress brought them right away and also brought us out some ginger soup. I ordered the Taste of Thai mixed appetizer and my husband ordered the hibachi chicken. Our food came out fairly quickly and everything was very good. The reason I am giving it one star is because after we looked at our bank statement two days later we realize that they had added on an extra $24.78 to the tip after the fact. Our total bill was $28.25. My husband left a tip of $8.75 (Over 30%) bringing our total that we paid to $37.00 but they charged us $61.78. I have added a photo of the price of our food from their website and also a screenshot of our bank app showing the $61.78 charge and the $24.78 reimbursement. The food is good, but the integrity here is not, so we will not be back.

But it is the dish shown on the menu as Kao Poon that was the Laotian dish that first got my attention. This dish has several names, including Lao Laska, which is the name I used to order it the first time, at a Chapel Hill restaurant called Merilon, sadly no more! There are different version, of course, since this spicy noodle dish is served not only in Laos, but also in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, and The USA. It is served at 18 Malaysia in Winston, where it is shown on the menu as Malaysia Curry Noodle Soup, and I have eaten this dish at this restaurant quite a few times. The dish as served at So-Sapp is a very nice version, though I prefer the one at 18 Malaysia because of the very flavorful broth, and that you have a number of protein choices, while at So-Sapp it is limited to chicken. The other items I've had here have been good, especially the sausage, the pork skewers, and the Jeow Bong. The papaya salad was just ok.

We also thought it would be quick since it mentions street eats and that it has a drive-thru. If you are in a hurry I would order in advance. They do have a drive-thru for pick-up orders. The menu is slim, but adequate and the dishes are customizable (regarding ingredients and spice level). We ordered: Pad Thai chicken ($12.99) Pad Thai tofu - medium spice ($12.99) Thai chicken fried rice - no onions ($12.99) Mango sticky rice ($7.99) Brown sugar boba ($5.99) We enjoyed each of the dishes and recommend this restaurant to others!
