I was in pain every single day for the last five years because of degenerative disc disease and years of high impact sports and teaching aerobics. I only met Dr. Tavares because my pain management doctor moved to the mainland and referred me out to him because he thought I would like and get along with him the best because I'm a "special" patient. I am totally crazy and Tavares is super strict and serious (like my husband) so this was a good match for me - ha! I still don't think he quite understands me, BUT I have no more pain so I don't care because I never have to see him again. Someone needs to be his new patient because I was single handedly my putting his kid through college and then he cured me with a spinal implant surgery and now I never have to go back to his office so I feel really bad. If you are not a good listener, and you do not follow directions, then do not go to Dr. Tavares. He is really super strict and really follows all the rules and will not put up with anyone trying to just go to get meds, or disability, or whatever else you people try?!? Thankfully I am a total nerd, follow directions, I have never done drugs in my life, HATE taking pain pills, don't wanna have any more surgeries, and will do whatever it takes to get off meds. Although I don't think he even believes me when I tell him how small town/sheltered I am, & I'm not gonna lie when I say I may have left crying from the office a time or two because he talks to me like my dad does. thankfully he is much smarter than I am and knows what he's talking about. I finally went to him and said, "I am 42 years old. I cannot be on pain meds the rest of my life. I want to jump off a cliff because my back and leg and hip hurts so bad. There has to be another solution?!?"Dr. Tavares said, "We could try this spinal cord stimulator implant?" I was at a point where I will try anything. This surgery was life-changing! If I had to choose between my husband, my dog, or this new spinal cord implant..... I would throw them both off a cliff and pick the implant! Praise God for Dr. Tavares! Yesterday I walked for 25 whole whopping minutes!!!! I have not taken any pain meds since I had this surgery he recommended. I don't even need to see him again. Maybe I will make an appointment just to give him a giant hug and kiss and tell him how much I love him! I did not even mention that he is easy to get to right off the freeway, he does all of the injections in his office which is great because you don't have to go anywhere, he does all of the pre-op & post-op check up in the office, there is plenty of parking, easy access, and his office staff are amazing. They are so nice and I love them every time I go in there. The girls that work for him are what makes the whole office sparkle. He is the best doctor ever! 10 stars! Everyone should go to him! He is amazing! I am Dr. Tavares biggest fan. I love him more than I love my dog and dark chocolate and wine. I have not felt this good since college.

From day one he's been patient, understanding and thoughtful. He really listens to my concerns and has offered great advice. He's even referred me to a sleep specialist because my overall sleep directly impacted my health. He's never shied away from my million questions or list of ailments. I was in need to see a doctor while visiting Hawaii, so I came to this place. When I walked in the person at the front was really rude. She was not nice and didn't seem to care. Next to her desk was a water fountain that had water all around it- a slip hazard if you ask me. Behind her desk was a bunch of coffee machines- about 3 to 4 machines with dirty dishes around it. I asked her if I could do a walk in, and she said it's better to make an appointment, and then she was summoned by the doctor and asked me to wait on the side. I suppose there wasn't any other help. While waiting, I noticed how dirty and cluttered this office was. Very odd to have a chest freezer in the waiting room, but it was there. There were also plants everywhere that attracted some bugs. There was a musty smell as well. There were Christmas decorations out and some power tools under the front entrance window. Very weird. When she came back to help me, she told me that they don't accept insurance, and that everything will be out of pocket. She mentioned that I could go to my insurance and ask for a reimbursement. At this point, I felt that this wasn't the place I'd like to get care from. If you're visiting Hawaii and just need a doctor to see, and you're DESPERATE, I suppose you can come here, but just know that they DONT accept insurance, and that you might have to WAIT LONG. I also did my research on the doctor who works there, and it's something worth looking into. When I receive care, it's important to know who you are going to. I find it suspicious that on the negative reviews, the doctor comments on them, and then deletes it.

I'll explain how, i had been suffering from severe chronic pain to my lower back, neck as well as left ankle this pain after seeing every specialist in Sydney Australia which is where i am from all I was told was that my pain symptoms are too complex and the only treatment they could offer me was Opiods(Narcotic) painkillers, which i began to take everyday this i did for about over 5 years with some degree of success! However one day in late August 2017 i just woke up with this crazy all i can call is Suicidal 10/10 pain to my neck, back and left ankle just like as if a sharp knife was being stabbed into my back! I imeadiatly went to my spinal surgeon who right away trasfered me to a private pain clinic in a majoer hospital, There they just continued to dose me up with more oxycontin doubble what i was taking then endone a faster acting opiod as well as a few Morphine shots all to no avail i was in so much pain i just wanted to die like jump out the window or something my quality of life was zero and i was desperate! So thats when i decided to seek my own reseach on this kind of pain and any treatments as my body had just come to a stage where it just would not accept any more pain meddication. During this research i fortunately came accross Dr Micheal Pasquale clinic and read that he was using this cutting edge pain management treatment called Ketamine Ifusion treatment for pain that no longer reponds to opiods! I was so desperate that i rand them and Dr Pasquale immeadiately agreed to treat me. So the following day I was on a plane fron Sydney to Honolulu for this treatment! Basically i can say that Dr Pasquale saved my life as when i got there and prior to strating the treatment i literally was suicidal not because i was deppressed but just because of my constant unbearable chronic pain! So what happened i started the treatment for the first two days enjoying the 4hour treatment experience however a few hours afterwards my pain would come back although not as bad b may 7/10. However after the third days treatment that was it my pain levels had dropped to just 2-3/10 and also I was able to half my high dose intake of the oxycontin from 320mgs a day to just 160mgs a day and then everyday just got better and better! My treatment was suppose to be fo 7 days but I decided to extend it by 3 more to ten! It was truly a miracle treatment on the internet it explains that Ketamine is whats called a dissasocative. Anasthetic so how it works to my understanding is that it during those 4 hour everyday disconnect the body from the brain and help the body and brain to forget all those chronic pain pathways that it has created. Anyway thats my understanding of it! The one thing is that there is no guarantee has to how long the treatment will last it could be 6 months or a year or indefinately this treament reacts differently to each person! But i believe or would much prefer to go and have this pleasent Ketamine Infusion treatment one a year even if I have to fly halfway around the world to have it instead of being addicted to morphine and opiods which come with all its side effects! Check in and out is always smooth and efficient. We typically go to the Aiea office; they're in that office M, W, and F, but I believe Dr. Tada is only there on Fridays. Perfect for our schedule. I first heard of Dr Tada from my CRPS support group. They all raved about his knowledge of CRPS, which is a feat in itself as a rare and poorly understood condition with the worse pain known to man. Most of the doctors I had encountered had never even heard of it, much less able to treat it. The only other doctors I found to have significant knowledge on the condition were the doctors at the pain management center at UCSF. Unfortunately, my insurance changed to a company that didn't have UCSF in network. I tried a few doctors on Oahu, but even those who had knowledge of CRPS proposed solutions that were either debunked or had never been widely used in the case of CRPS. And sadly with CRPS, incorrect treatment often leads to spread or worsening of the condition. Hence the dire need for knowledgeable doctors. Not only is Dr. Tada knowledgeable about CRPS but he has had several years and several patients experience. I have since received more helpful solutions than I ever thought possible. Treatment of CRPS is extremely dependent on a case by case basis. Medications that work for one patient they have an opposite effect in another patient. Some patients can tolerate touch while others can barely tolerate a breeze. In some patients it can go into remission while another patients it can cause lifelong debilitating issues. Unfortunately, I fall into the latter category, but with a Dr. Tada, I am able to have an unbelievable quality of life despite the pain. He doesn't just treat a small part of the condition as most doctors do. He treats the patient as a whole.

After Kelsie meets with Doctor Wang to discuss her evaluation, they met with me and that is when I knew I was in great hands. Instead of providing a treatment without knowing the conditions of my lumbar spine and sacrum, Doctor Wang requested that I have a lumbar and sacrum MRI to determine the what treatments are necessary.
