Folks what's going on!!! Been a while since I left a review and here's my latest...... I was excited about this place, big building, bright lights, great picture on the side of the building representing the brand! You have to pay for your parking which isn't an issue cheap and clean parking lot. We made a reservation on the phone for 9pm. As we walked in we were greeted by a very nice young lady. Looking around they have 3 floors, the first is a bar/lounge. The 2nd is where restrooms are and the 3rd is the rooftop! It was a beautiful night so we were in the rooftop, they had a dj ( he was playing all the latest and greatest music) we were quickly seated and asked about drinks and appetizers. So folks there was 2 hiccups during our Visit BUT I will say this ( the STAFF and Manager exceeded our expectations while dealing with one of the issues. So the first issue was I explained to the waiter I'm a Diabetic and I am Allergic to Seafood. I said " please Diet Coke and sparkling water" so I can drink it with my whiskey . The wife had several different tequilas . We waited for our appetizers, within 10 minutes my fish tacos came out I looked at the food and asked my " is this fish???" She said "yes" so I ate 1 it looked like a chicken strip but the 2 nd one was 2 piece and I asked my wife are you sure she said " yes" I took a bite and ate half of it. I looked down and seen something orange I broke open the food and I said " this is shrimp !!?!?!" I then called the waiter called the manager and sent my wife across the street to Walgreens for Benadryl. Folks I afraid for my life!!! It was my wife's birthday and here we are about to run to the hospital ‍! But the manager and waiter were excellent!!! Kept checking on me making sure I was ok and thankfully I was!!! Next we started eating our appetizers and it started raining so we waited around by the bar had some more drinks. They came to us and told us we can go downstairs to eat and enjoy the evening and we did!!!! The DJ started doing his thing and we started really enjoying ourselves! Folks I recommended this place without a doubt!!!! They are considerate, empathetic, understanding and best of all Concerned" about their customers health and wellbeing! Then to top it off they gave us a 50% discount!!!!!!!! We were so happy about this I left the waiter a $63 tip'!!!! read more

I came here for Valentine's Day. It was packed at 9PM! I waited in the bar because their tables were booked. They had a DJ with great music, and lights. The only thing I didn't like is that we were told we could only order from their Valentine's Day menu and not the regular menu. Their special menu had limited food choices. I agree with one of the reviews that mentioned this spot may not be ideal if you're over 35. The location is extremely loud to the point where I had to yell just to be heard by the person sitting next to me. The restaurant itself is beautiful and very visually appealing, with lots of decor and photo op moments. The staff is nice and welcoming, and the food is fresh. That said, nothing we ordered really stood out as amazing, though it wasn't bad either. It feels more like a place to grab drinks and meet people at the bar rather than enjoy a relaxed meal. It's definitely not the same vibe as their Clifton location, which I love. read more

Very torn about my experience at Agave Maria. It didn't start off great - we waited at the bar while waiting for friends to arrive. All of the bartenders/waitstaff were standing in a corner on their phones and laughing. They weren't paying attention. Finally got a drink and we were able to head upstairs to the speakeasy for our table. Our experience was much better upstairs. Our server (Carmen, I think) was super sweet and checked on us often as we had a big table. We all ordered from the holiday drinks - they were so festive-looking but some odd drink choices as well. I had the mixed ceviche which had quite a kick to it! Also had the churrasco which I LOVED. Shout out to the bartender, Jesus! He kept the drinks coming. Super fun vibe. Perfect for girls night or date night. The music was great, the drinks were even better. The food was good and our server was very nice. I was disappointed because the speakeasy wasn't open and the music was so good that I wanted to dance but there was no room to do so. We visited Agave María in Belleville to celebrate a friend's birthday and chose the 3rd floor, which offers a great atmosphere for groups--perfect for sharing, talking, and having a good time. The DJ was excellent, and the music really added to the overall vibe of the night. I definitely recommend calling ahead if you're looking for a specific atmosphere or planning a group celebration. The birria tacos were outstanding, full of flavor and easily one of the best dishes we had. The food overall was excellent. That said, the service needs significant improvement. There were no water refills, and when dessert was served, we had to eat it with knives because no spoons were provided. These details took away from what could have been a great experience. Honestly expected a little more from this place , the decor is beautiful and the bar has a big variety of hard liquor . However for a Mexican restaurant their variety of Mexican beer is very poor . We ordered chicken fajitas and streak tacos , the tacos were good , but the chicken was unseasoned and dry so that was disappointing. We sat at the bar and even tho the bartender was somewhat friendly , but we had to chase him to place an order and find him again to ask for the bill . He disappeared , if you had any questions or wanted another drink he was simply not present at the bar the entire time we were there . They have parking and a rooftop as well They need to work on their customer service and also on the menu , for a place that looks so nice and fancy the menu is weak and blah , not that many options :( Disappointed! read more

Been here twice. It's definitely a party brunch vibe. The music is so loud you can barely speak to the people at your table. There's a DJ. The brunch menu doesn't have many protein options. Sometimes it's quiet, other times it's really turnt up! Service is decent. The bathroom was clean but one door doesn't lock. read more

I left a negative review 2 years ago and I said I would never come back to this establishment ever again. BUT my friend wanted to celebrate her birthday there so I gave it a second shot. First of alll... Shoutout to the bartenders Bryan (with a "y") and Kevin. They were extremely nice and very attentive and on point. First off there is plenty of street parking. The roasted chicken was pretty good. I like the vibe of this place definitely a must go for group friends or couples night out. It has three floors. The first floor, speak easy the second floor and then the roof top. The service was cool. The waitress was polite, courteous and patient. Did a birthday party for a friend here on their rooftop on a Friday night at the end of August. Nicole helped me with the reservation and the million questions that I needed answered. She was patient and super helpful. The rooftop was decorated beautifully and the DJ was amazing!! The food was even better. 14 ppl and it wasn't even that expensive, I would say about $80 a head with appetizers, main courses & lots of drinks. Our waitress Victoria was phenomenal and super attentive. We ate and danced the night away... oh and drank. If you are looking for a place to have a birthday, a girls night or even a date night, I highly recommend this spot. Parking can get a little tricky, they share the municipal parking, which is right next door with the police department. We did get lucky and found a spot. But there is also street parking and more parking towards the back of the restaurant as well. read more

We visited for their Winter Wonderland themed speakeasy to enjoy their holiday cocktails. The decor of the place was so festive and aesthetic - loved the ambiance all around. They had twinkling lights hung all around the room along with snowflakes. We started with the nachos and they were absolutely delicious! I ordered the Oaxaca bowl for my entree and it was filling and flavorful - the bowl was also hugee! I really enjoyed their seasonal exclusive "The Elf" cocktail - the addition of a matcha cold foam was very unique and worked well. While the decor and food was great, I wish I could say the same for the service. The server was attentive at first, however towards the end we had to keep trying to get their attention & kept overlooking our table /: They had a large party seated in the middle as well and told me to move my chair and pushed the couch basically into our table (the couch was touching our table). The interior and exterior décor are eye-catching and create a great vibe. Parking outside, however, is a bit miserable--definitely requires some patience. The bar itself is a great size. The menu is accessed by QR code, but you still order directly from the server or bartender. Vegetarian options are alright. The veggie tacos were okay but could be better, while the chicken tacos were juicy and flavorful. I really appreciate that they offer alcohol-free Corona--it makes it easier to bring more friends. The skinny margarita was smooth and beautifully presented. If I'm in the area, I wouldn't mind stopping by again if I can find parking in a reasonable time, but I can't say I truly crave the food. It's good, but it doesn't feel fully authentic to me. Our bartender--the one with the butterfly tattoo on the back of her left arm--was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, patient, and attentive, and it was nice to see her teaching others as she worked. You could tell she cared. With all the negative reviews, I was skeptical about visiting this establishment but I ended up having a great experience. A friend and I had a 5:30p reservation for Taco Tuesday and it was an absolute win! For just $20 we got unlimited tacos and they allowed you to mix and match, we also had a few margaritas and we weren't skimpy with the liquor. Our server Jana was the absolute best! Background: After making an online reservation, I called the restaurant and spoke with a male who assured me we'd be seated on the rooftop (weather permitting) and not in the dining room. Upon arrival, we were told we didn't have a rooftop reservation. The hostess radioed someone and then told us we could go up but would need to give the table back by 7:15. When we reached the rooftop, we were greeted by the general manager -- a short Spanish man with a left-arm tattoo and an ego the size of Belleville -- who immediately told us our reservation was for the dining room. We explained that the hostess had just spoken to someone who had agreed to seat us upstairs. The manager responded rudely, telling us he was the manager and there were no tables for us up there (despite only four tables being occupied at the time). Eventually, he begrudgingly offered us a low-top table in direct sun with no umbrella -- the only one without shade -- and told us we'd need to leave by 7:00. Trying to make the best of a bad situation, we ordered drinks and an appetizer. When we requested chips and guacamole, I clearly mentioned my cilantro allergy. Less than a minute later, the guacamole was brought to the table with visible cilantro. Our waitress took it back to the bar and then to the kitchen, only to return with the same plate and tell us it was pre-made and couldn't be prepared without cilantro. What's especially disappointing is that when we dined here back in January, we had no issue ordering items without cilantro -- the staff then was so accommodating. Additionally, the chips and queso (which was basically water consistency) were served without salsa, which was listed as part of the dish on the menu. By 6:24, we decided to leave -- the rooftop was mostly empty -- and the manager had the nerve to make a sarcastic comment like, "Oh, leaving so soon?" This was especially disappointing because my group had such a wonderful experience here back in January. We had recommended this place to others, but after yesterday's visit, we will not be returning. The funny thing is, I was texting a friend who had recently gone there for drinks, telling her about my experience with the manager. Her reply was, "I know exactly who you're talking about -- Spanish, shaved head, sassy little thing." Clearly, this is not an isolated issue. While this place has great potential, they seriously need to look into their staff and hire people with more experience in hospitality and customer service. read more

Birria is a very tricky dish to master because you have the tenderness of the meat, the long simmering, and getting the flavors just right but Agave nailed it! I would go back solely for the pizza. It is big enough and filling to share between 3-4 people, which is what we did. Service was okay! Staff is super friendly but we were sat kind of in the back and the place was very busy so it did take a long time for our servers to get to our tables- nothing major!! The ONLY and I mean ONLY reason I am giving this 4 stars is because I get overstimulated very easily and the music was VERY loud and bumping for a weeknight dinner haha! And this only happened at a certain point in the evening so I'm sure if you come for early dinner or lunch the loud noise will not be an Issue. Came here on a Thursday night with a friend. We were seated immediately. Our server was really nice as well as the support staff. The ambience was cute. It had a nice little vibe. I got the margarita de Agave in passion fruit flavor and the second one in a pineapple flavor. It was a good cocktail and they were generous with the tequila. As an appetizer I got the beef seasonal empanada. The beef was cooked barbacoa style and was really delicious. As my entree I got the bistec a la Mexicana. Somehow it cold and hot at the same time. The meat was really tough and chewy. The menu said it was supposed to be spicy and there was zero spice. So I was disappointed about that. For dessert I got the churros. Those were crispy and soft and very tasty. We also got complimentary shots of tequila which was nice. I think it's a good place to have apps and drinks but the entree was a miss for me. read more

The speakeasy is a vibe for a date or small group celebration. 3. The music is mixed with oldies, some latin and some current. 4. The decor is amazing. What to keep in mind: 1. The speakeasy and downstairs music is LOUD, your ears will be ringing at the end of the night. 2. The food is hit or miss. Really search reviews to see what to order. 3. The dancing space is between tables and tight. 4. If you don't have reserve a table, prepare to stand all night. Overall, I've always had a fun time at Agave Maria and will be returning. As a 41 year old, I don't think the crowd is super young, it seems pretty mixed the all the times that I have been there, but as any venue, it will have more younger people. We had a blast!! Came to celebrate my friends birthday. They offered either a round of shots for the table of dessert. I opted for the dessert since my friend doesn't drink. The food was delicious and the drinks were amazing too. They were decorated for Christmas and it was very festive. Had a great time and I I'll most likely be back. Only downfall is the parking. This place is really nice and such a vibe! The service is great and speedy, the servers are often checking on you as a customer. I've been here twice and have had different servers but the same lovely experience. First time I went was on the rooftop and may I say, FUN! The inside downstairs was nice and intimate, however the wonderful variety of music was quite loud. Both spaces however are quaint so be aware of that as the tables did their best to hold our food. Speaking of, a nice variety on the menu and might I add delish. The tacos posted are from the all you can eat taco Tuesday, I ate so good that night. Although I have the tacos posted, I have had the birria tacos, birria pizza, and honestly it was so much food my party order I could barely remember. Those definitely stuck with me though. I wasn't a big fan of the tres leches, I would not recommend ordering that if you're looking for a good dessert. Been here for brunch and for their speak easy and had a pleasant experience both times. Their brunch was lively, good options with food, music was great and service was great. I ordered the chicken Flautas both times and it is good. I recently visited their speak easy with a group of 9 and they were very accommodating because I booked that same day. For my party of 9, there was a limit of 90-180 minutes and an automatic 20% gratuity included. street parking is available and I do see a lot but I wasn't sure if it belonged to them. I then ordered wings as an appetizer and tacos as my meal. Extremely filling!! The place turns into a night club. DJ blasts music (down side, hard to hear anyone talking) and a robot comes around with shots. Overall had an awesome time. Parking is tight. Drove around 10/15 minutes before fining a spot. Came here with a few friends for an impromptu meet up. The restaurant has a roof top and a sit in dining room located on the first floor. Because the weather was so nice we were automatically guided to the roof top, which would've been nice if our allergies weren't fighting with us as they get such a nice sunset up there. Parking was right next door as well which was a perk! The food was good and I enjoyed they had flour tortillas as I can't do corn which had me over the moon. The drinks were good and strong as well. The ambiance is amazing. Beautiful scenery and music setting. The pina colada was really good but small for the price. I don't know if it's because we picked upstairs the speakeasy seating. Everything else pretty much missed the mark. SERVICE It was just very disorganized and a lot of waiting was involved. There was way too many people for the amount of seats but people just kept coming. It seemed like there was only 1 server. The rest were just helping him out. He did the best he could but ultimately he needed more help and they needed to allow less people up there. People were just walking up to him asking him for drinks and he couldn't get to his tables. We waited 2 hours for our check and walked up to our server twice to get it. Wasn't his fault he didn't have help but he forgot about us twice. Never came to check on us when we got our food and I asked multiple different people for condiments that I never received. Honestly it seemed like the people helping the server were just dropping off food and drinking and leaving and honestly ignoring me. Most of the time the server helpers were lost as they kept delivering food and drinks to the wrong table and people had to wave them down. FOOD & DRINKS The food was just okay. Nothing special. The drinks were good though. I had a pina colada and it was really good. I wanted to order dessert but the service prohibited that. Highly overrated. The plates and utensils were dirty. The service was extremely slow. We waited 20 minutes to be greeted. Another 30 minutes for our appetizer, another 20 for the main course. Paid over prized meals that were awfully put together. The roasted chicken at $25 was a thigh that was PINK throughout my husband couldn't even eat it from how slimy it was, and the waiter never came back for an hour after our entrees were served. It was so bad my husband had to walk up to the bar to try and pay our check. My meal the Salmon Del Sur, the salmon was so fishy and the sauce they dress the plate with lacked flavor. Theres also no view on the rooftop. Highly don't recommend this terrible establishment with overpriced meals. Even the table next to us was dissatisfied with their food and service. read more

Despite the food tasting good, I can't overlook how extremely slow the service was especially considering there were only five tables occupied in the entire restaurant. We waited over an hour for our food and when it finally arrived, it was not hot; warm at best. However, it was VERY FLAVORFUL! After waiting that long, I was so hungry that I didn't take pictures when the food came. The slow service and unacceptable delay really took away from what could have been a great meal. Super weird experience without even having a chance to try the food or a drink. Decided to try them out as we wanted Mexican for lunch and the reviews, specifically about the drinks, were good (I wanted and needed a margarita badly lol). Upon walking in to the empty restaurant we were asked if we had a reservation which we didn't. I thought that was just a question they ask everyone, however, we were informed reservations were pretty much required (despite the restaurant literally being empty) ... we were then told we could sit at the bar if we wanted.... annoying, but we said ok bc I wanted a margarita. After sitting at the bar for 5 minutes we were never greeted (& I clearly didn't get a margarita) but then the host comes up to us and says a reservation canceled so he could give us their table (in this still empty restaurant) ... I still needed my margarita and my man was starving so we said ok. Upon being seated we noticed the water glasses were dirty and asked the server for new ones which she apologized for and immediately brought us new ones. We were then informed they were only serving BRUNCH until 2pm ... WHAAAAAT????? This wasn't posted or written anywhere and we were NOT in the mood for Mexican brunch so we decided to just leave ... and I still had no margarita and was sad. The end. Never going back.
