What an all-around disappointment. You know all those sparkling chandeliers hanging in the windows? Lipstick on a pig. Here, we received the food/service I would expect to receive at a second rate Tex-Mex joint, rather than a pricey downtown establishment. Patio space was nice enough. We started by ordering from their specialty cocktail menu, and after a crazy long wait, received drinks that were different than what we had ordered. Eventually we were told that this was because their frozen drink machine was broken. Ok, that's fine. Next we ordered an appetizer of fish tacos which was about average. We finished our drinks and ordered a second round of cocktails, as well as our entrées. Fast forward 45 minutes, and we're still waiting for our entrées and cocktails. Our water glasses are empty. The waitress stops in to see how we are and informs us that their bartender is so backed up that they basically aren't serving any more alcohol at this point. This is weird since most tables are empty, but whatever. We request more water and about ten minutes later we receive our food. Still no water. The real kicker was my husband's meal. He ordered their Verduras - three mushroom street tacos. But within the tacos, NOT ONE MUSHROOM. Just a congealed glob of very greasy cheese. When our waitress eventually returned, we asked for the manager and upon speaking with him, he seemed to be unconcerned about our poor experience. He stated that the chef had just now gone to the grocery store to get more mushrooms. We asked why they had continued to serve the dish without this main component, rather then simply informing us that the item was temporarily unavailable. He confidently told me that this was the restaurant's policy. So we never did get a second round of drinks and our food was not at all what we had ordered. We basically paid $100 for greasy cheese and the wrong cocktails. Won't be returning. read more

We were there to celebrate on a Saturday at lunch. The decor is busy and lots to look at. Music was nice and not over powering. Servers were great, attentive and answered lots of question. It was busy but no wait time. Food came hot and delicious. My only critique is some dishes were saltier for my taste. We had 3dip chips, birria burritos, street tacos, birria Irish nachos, veggie ninja quesadilla, and more. Lots of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free items. No pics too hungry. read more

Went for lunch yesterday.. Got there about 1:10pm and honestly it was pretty empty. The staff was super sweet but the service was sooo slow. It took forever for drinks, two tacos , and eventually dessert. My fiancé got one refill at the end of lunch with the check so he didn't even have a chance to drink it. Once we finished I took my baby to the bathroom to change her and there was no changing table. I could understand if this was only a bar or somewhere 21+ to not have a changing table, but it's not. As far as I know this area is very family friendly so I assume plenty of families eat here. I'm glad the staff was so nice when they were around...which was slim. We left around 2:40pm read more

This is the poster child for a restaurant thats overrated while being extremely expensive!! I even asked where the rest of my order was when I received it. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere that has good food and is reasonably priced. This place is 0-2 in those categories! It is absolutely criminal they charge this much for mediocre food! read more

We got there around 5:50 on Saturday, and it was very slow- we asked to sit outside and the only other table out there was leaving. Our server ran over the menu and made suggestions. We got some drinks, a dip trio, and brussel sprouts to start with, plus two taco flights. Drinks and chips/dip came out pretty quick. Two other tables get sat during this, but they're still not busy. Our sprouts took quite awhile and when they came we realized we had no silverware and no one was around. We waited awhile longer and the two tables around us had their orders delivered. Still don't see our server. Finally she comes out with two plates, puts them down and realizes they're not for our table. At 6:45, someone else brings our order out. It seems pretty obvious that the order was never put in or the kitchen lost the ticket. Our server comes with water and leaves again, not to be seen until the bill. We ask for boxes and I give a gift card and credit card to cover the balance; she takes the payment and is gone awhile, and then I see on my phone the full amount was ran on my credit card. When she finally comes back, my husband asks if there was a problem with the gift card. "What gift card? There was no gift card. You didn't give a gift card." I had put it on top of my credit card, and they were contrasting colors, so... she then says she'll go get the manager and is gone quite awhile again. She then comes back and says she actually did find it. Food a place that's known for tacos, the tacos weren't good, honestly. If you're going for apps and drinks, this could be the place. But the tacos and service weren't good. read more

We went to event tonight and enjoyed the food very much. The cocktails were imaginative and fun. The tacos pushed the limit of how much can fit in a shell. Solid quality food but the service was a bit confused, the servers were working hard, but it is a new spot and the place was packed. Definitely give it another shot we have dined at other locations and enjoy the food. Great addition to the South Dayton food scene! read more

This unfortunately was a let down for me. My husband enjoyed his meal, but I thought it was overpriced and not very flavorful. Kinda blah for the appearance. I genuinely like to begin with the positives....soooo. Our waitress Tori was lovely, I don't think she has worked there long, so we decided to undertake the journey of discovery together. I had a pineapple jalapeño margarita and it was fantastic! My husband had a mezcal cocktail, which he enjoyed (except for the sugar that was ALL over the glass. My husband ordered tacos that he really enjoyed! And that is where the good ends. We ordered the OG margaritas that had had a truly unusual color and they were in the worst 3 margaritas I've ever had and I'm an old margarita aficionado! The chips were ridiculously thick, hard to chew through, but the salsa was solid af. My taquitos were by far the worst I've ever had, definitely not Mexican! Overly crusted, really cheap cheese and the meat, which was good, piled on top. Agave and Rye is close to home and I so wanted to love it. I will go again, but only specialty cocktails and tacos. Amazing tacos. Horrible service I have been to Agave and Rye before in Columbus and loved it, so I was super excited to take my husband to the Centerville location tonight. The tacos are great. The margaritas are wonderful. The queso is chef kiss. But Dear God the service is atrocious and reading thru these reviews I am seriously wondering if they train their staff to just treat parents with small kids horribly. Our waiter tonight never made the contact though making eye contact is hard when you don't actually come to the table. When I say our service was bad I'm saying that I was forced to hold our queso tray in my lap and in the booth because there was no room for our tacos and no one cleared the table in between. We spent $100 for tacos and drinks for 2 people and literally had to beg to get a check. Funny enough the hostesses got to see what we meant because aa my husband complained to them our waiter walked right past our table and to the table next to us again. It took 20 minutes from sitting down to when the waiter came to us. It took us almost 30 minutes to get our check. Frankly I could have been in and out of the Columbus location quicker with the 1 hour drive then I was there. We had our 2 kids with us (15 month old and 3 month old). Neither cried the whole time. Both were super smiley and happy and I can't help to wonder if the fact we had 2 babies was the reason we were treated like we had the plague by our server. 0 eye contact. No drink refills. Didnt check if we wanted another round, etc. Just super sad because like I said the food was great. read more

I wanted to like it. I have been to another Agave & Rye and loved it. There is a lot going on in this one as far as decor. A bit of overload. Of course, it was all very clean being that it's a new place. You could see a lot of staff being trained. But we were seated fairly quickly and had great service. We started with loaded tots. If you are expecting the normal, tater tot's, this is not it. It was sort of like mashed potatoes with a few shredded potatoes thrown in, breaded and deep fried. I thought they we OK but my partner didn't like them. I ordered the Queen E taco. One of the 2 'sticks' of Mahi was breading and no fish to be found in it. I will take the blame for my order, in that I didn't realize it was french fries IN the taco under the fish. But the fries were cold. It was too spicy to eat. I think it was the fish breading but not sure. It was pretty when it came out of the kitchen though. My partner ordered The Rooster taco. It had "Nashville Hot" on the chicken. It was not hot. The chicken was over cooked. The mac and cheese base in the taco was good. But they said they wished they hadn't ordered it. Not that good. I have seen comments on posts about the music being too loud. I had asked my partner if they heard the music. They did. But I did not. Apparently it was low today. Customer beware. They add a junk fee in the bill. They call it a "merchant fee." If you don't look close, you will miss it. I asked the general manger what it was for and he said it was "to make sure that the food was fresh." Huh?? I simply told him to take it off! This is a junk fee they hope you don't notice. I stopped in for lunch with friends. The location was super busy and luckily I was able to find parking right away but it can be a wait so plan to consolidate cars if meeting up with friends. At present reservations are unavailable. Our wait time was approximately 23 minutes. I've dined at Agave & Rye locations before and thought the decor was great. It's a huge space. Lunch and drinks were great. And our waitress was attentive. Will definitely go back in the future. read more

The service started off poor when they quoted us 20-40 minutes and it turned into over an hour. No problem alcohol makes everything better I ordered a new fashion it was terrible. At this point I'm tired and just wanting to go to bed but sadly I ordered tacos here which was my next mistake. My friends and I drove down for a lunch date and the hostess seemed confused and after a few minutes sat us. We sat at our table and waited over ten minutes and the staff continually walked passed and did even acknowledge us sitting. No one came to serve us and we ended up getting up and leaning. We passed the hostess as we left and she said nothing but went to our table and gathered our menus. Poor service seems to be a common denominator here and that is unfortunate because there location in liberty township is phenomenal. read more

Great 1st visit! Took 1/2 hour to get seated but our drinks and appetizer was on our table in less than 10 minutes after ordering them. Kind of an eclectic atmosphere with tv's showing sports and different things on the walls, but a really nice place. Ambiance is great! Beautifully decorated and fun atmosphere. Food? Let's say Taco Bell has spicier food. Bland and lackluster. Presentation was done well but you won't get quality or quantity. Tried the queso con chorizo. The Oaxaca cheese is over whelming and little amount of chorizo crumble. Beria tacos were more like pot roast with over helping of cheese. A pot roast quesadilla. The compote has no flavor, spice, and no lime. The Big Thumper was bland. Even the maple syrup and "spicy" bacon was the spice of "oops I added too much black pepper to this". Tori/Tory was a saving grace to this kitchen disaster as she was kind and able to get us the check to head back to flavortown. read more

What a wonderful group of waiters! All very happy to serve, each helping each other out. They made us feel very welcome to be there. The inside dining room is very eclectic with the decor. Acoustics were poor for conversation since this was loud indoors. Choose the patio with beautiful hydrangeas and umbrellas for a date night or if there's a group. It's easier to talk. The food was very good. Tacos were large, but protein portions of meat and fish were small on the three we ordered. . Mac n cheese beneits rocked the house,with the habenero maple dipping. I just finished the Grilled Brunch Burrito and OMG! It was the most delicious burrito I have ever had. The flavors, the tenderness of the ground beef..it all just melts in your mouth. Hats off to the cooks! Dahl, my server was quite hospitable as was the hostess. I thought I would be writing a quick "foodie experience" for the Agave and Rye. Instead I am going to share the generosity of this restaurant after I received no bill for my dinner. I was talking to the manager, Charity, when a staff member shouted for help. An elderly customer had fallen on the wet floor. I simply lent a hand, making sure he wasn't hurt before getting him situated in a chair. That was the extent of my help. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. Oh, by the way the lobster taco called the Crown Jewel was incredible. I also highly recommend the Prickly Pear on the rocks. Thanks to KD and Molly who became new friends as well. Dismiss the previous critiques regarding loud music. This is a vibrant, high energy establishment. If you're looking for friendly staff, great food and don't mind saying hello to the person at the bar next to you, then you'll have a great time. read more

Skip this location. The front door doesn't close and cold air blows through the entryway. Egg roll came out warm not piping hot like we've had at the Troy location. My husband tried to order two different beers on draft and was told they were out. He asked to taste test the beer that was available and the server brought out a whole glass. Host was having a full on conversation with someone through his earbud. Our meals came out lukewarm and I didn't even finish my taco for fear I'd get food poisoning. The people behind us sat for a good 15 minutes before they had to get up to ask who was serving them. The restaurant was half full and had plenty of staff. Staff disappeared for long periods of time and the front remained unmanned for long periods of time. Management needs to take a serious look at how they're running this establishment. Im pretty sure everyone at this place was high on weed. Walked in and saw the waiter outside smoking.. things started convincing me everyone was high. There was no hostess for a majority of the time we were there. We were sat somewhat quickly but saw at least three people come in and have to wait around 15 mins to even be addressed. The lady behind us had to go talk to a waiter and ask If anyone was going to serve them because they'd been seated 20 mins earlier and no one even took their drink order. When the host was around they were on their earbud taking personal calls. Otherwise, the phone was ringing off the hook. And this wasn't during rush hour.. there were a few tables sat, but there were at least 20 open tables. Worst of all, the food was barely warm. The taste was fine but something is way off when it's not hot. We sat around long enough for me to write this review waiting for our check. They biffed a lot more but I don't want to make it sound like we're complaining. The overall experience was pretty unimpressive. Troy does a much better job. read more

Darling wife & I went to Agave & Rye (Centerville) on 1/24/24) for a Restaurant Week dinner. While the parking was UNAVAILABLE (we parked & walked from a couple blocks away), I was pleasantly surprised with just how fast we were seated. On entering the (LOUD) restaurant, we were quickly greeted & told that it would probably be 15-20 minutes for a table. It turned out to only be 5 minutes. Not hateful at all! Our waiter (Curtis) was VERY MUCH "on the ball", and quickly explained the menu options & took our orders. Appetizers - I had their house queso & chips, and darling wifey had the "NASHVILLE HOT CHICKEN & WAFFLE BEIGNETS." Wifey & I thoroughly enjoyed both appetizers. The chips were home-made, thick, and crunchy. Delivered room temp/cold, though. :-( The queso had a great flavor, including green chile bits. The beignets were also quite edible. While I generally despise mac & cheese, the beignets (stuffed with mac & cheese, bacon, and chicken) were QUITE edible, with a great flavor & texture! For "main dishes", I chose their "Swipe Right Epic Taco", and wifey got the "Epic Plain Jane Taco". BOTH were excellent. Great flavor & texture. Nice balance of sweet/salty/spicy/crunchy. For dessert, we both got the "BOURBON BANANA FOSTER MINI TACOS". DELICIOUS! Excellent crunchy cinnamon sweet salty banana bourbon flavor. We left the restaurant pleasantly stuffed & quite willing to go back. My only grumble is the excessive ambient noise level, possibly aggravated by all the "hard" surfaces that reflect sound. I had to YELL to make myself understood on entering the restaurant, and frequently had to YELL when talking with my wifey after having been seated. read more

And I know that it's not supposed to be cold because every time I go to the Agave and Rye at Liberty Center the meat is hot and the taco is so good. Visited for lunch figuring it would be busy at dinner. Prompt friendly greeting and seated immediately. Fun, eclectic decor. Bright and clean. Tyler, our server was friendly, helpful, and provided great service. We had the Love Shack 2 taco and chips with salsa and queso. Delicious, flavorful, and filling. Some great menu choices make it hard to pick. No margaritas today, but next time for sure! read more

I've heard so much buzz about this place so we decided to check it out on a random weekday afternoon before it got crowded. First, I can understand why people in the area are excited by this restaurant. The modern maximalist interior design is cool and unique, though IMO way over the top (like how many lamps do you need and how much energy does this place consume?) Outside of the decor, how did the food and service hold up? It didn't, IMO. First, I moved back here from Chicago where both great Mexican food and upscale dining are a given. So I realize that my viewpoint is a bit skewed by that. But this restaurant lacked any authenticity and is way overrated. We decided to try the epic tacos (when in Rome) and immediately wished we'd instead gone for a more basic taco. The whole hard shell soft shell combo was totally unnecessary and made them so messy to eat. The flavor and ingredient combos were also a bit ridiculous, though I get that was sort of the point. Overall, the tacos were flavorful, but the total experience was lacking. For one, the food wasn't quite hot enough (even though it actually wasn't busy when we arrived) and was kind of dry and left us both feeling kinda crappy. In the plus column, the top shelf margarita and sweet corn fritters with Serrano aioli were excellent. As for service, the experience was confusing. Our server was friendly, but not exactly helpful. We arrived as happy hour was starting (we would later learn from the menu). We weren't told about any of the specials, which we would definitely have taken advantage of. Our margaritas arrived without salt on the rim and my second OG margarita came on the rocks when I asked for frozen. Weirdly enough, there were easily 20 staff members in the restaurant, but the service was just so-so. While it was starting to pick up for happy hour, it wasn't really that busy and most were standing around doing nothing while patrons sitting near us were complaining about the lack of service. I have literally never seen so many staff, even in a crowded downtown restaurant with much higher levels of service. All in all, it's worth checking out the fun decor and bar menu. But I'm not sure if I'd eat here again, especially when there are some other local Latin-American restaurants in the area (Sueño, Latin Arepas, Nelly's) offering more authentic food and less hype. As for tacos, my fiancé's quest to find good quality, authentic tacos continues as we didn't find them at Agave & Rye. read more

I would like to give this restaurant a 5/5 stars. It was clean. Service was good. I had the Plain Jane taco and it was good. A little too spicy for my taste though. As far as sides, I did like the beans and rice. It was restaurant week so I also tried the queso. The queso was great! I was not a fan of the chips. They were tough and too salty. The menu came with a dessert so I got the Funnel Cake Fries. They were so good. They needed a little more powdered sugar though but the server was quick to bring a small side of it for me. One thing I can't stand is loud music in restaurants and the music was so loud I could not hear my friends. Please turn the music down just a little bit. The menu is a little pricy in my opinion. It would have been nice if they would have offered free chips and salsa. We would go back again and maybe try to find a quieter spot. read more
