So glad I did. They were committed to doing a good job from the get go - thorough, very communicative, reasonably priced (it's expensive no matter where you go, so it's wonderful when you actually get what you pay for), and Darren kept me posted every step of they way regarding my service requests so there were no surprises in timing or cost. I am pleased to say the entire crew that I met was nothing short of terrific, and they all worked as a team on my behalf.

They got me into their yard a week early and finished the bottom job in half the time they said it might take. Although expensive (what isn't) I was ok with the initial quote they gave me. Then they discovered some blisters that needed attention as well as some extra bottom sanding. This added an additional $1000 to the job. However, Darrin worked with me to get the best bang for the buck. The crew was super friendly, as was the office staff. I might not have given them five stars due to cost, however, their customer service made up for it.

I had Miller and Miller install a fridge on my boat. The quality of work is Ok it is up and running…read morebut I'm very frastrated with their communication and commitment. In February I asked them to plan for installation of a new sanitation system after the work on the fridge. They came, took a look and said that will send me a quote by end of March and that everything will be done by end of May. Never heard back. I called, left messages, numerous emails and every time they were postponing the project. Eventually stopped replying. At the end in May I had to start searching for another company to take the job which is more difficult to do in May. Suggestion for improvement: do not commit for projects that you can't or not filling to take. I could have saved a lot of my time and could have started sailing sooner.

AVOID!! BEWARE!! We…read morepaid Bill to provide a mechanical survey on a Yanmar diesel engine in a J35 sailboat as part of pre-purchase due diligence. We paid Bill ~$450 for around 4 hours of observation and inspection. About 4 days after his inspection, we discussed his findings over the phone. He initially gave us his findings from a different boat staying that our electrically driven fuel pump was on the verge of failing. I was puzzled by his findings because our engine had a fuel pump powered mechanically. Bill said that the engine was in good condition otherwise. About 15 minutes later, Bill called me back to say that he had mistakenly read us his notes from a different boat and had given us faulty information. He then said that our engine was "in good working condition with nothing notable requiring servicing or replacement". Now a few months later, we had a reputable diesel mechanic in Seattle look at the engine to conduct a service and maintenance. This inspection found Bill's evaluation of our engine completely off the mark. In less time than it took for Bill to conduct his survey, the Seattle mechanic found notable and obvious problems with the fuel filter system (leaking diesel!), heat exchanger, exhaust manifold, raw sea water pump, and PSS shaft seal. This evaluation was made with the same observation techniques Bill had available to him when he made his survey. From this, I followed up with Bill to share this experience, express our dissatisfaction with Bill's service, and ask for a return of funds paid. My hope was to find a mutually agreeable resolution to our concerns. Bill could not have been more unprofessional in his response. He questioned the integrity of the mechanic who found the problems he could not identify and threatened to sue me for libel if we shared our experience to other potential buyers. Sorry Simmons Marine, incompetent service gets a bad review. Buyer, take your business elsewhere if you need help with your marine engine. Simmons Marine Service does not know what they are doing and are completely unprofessional.
