I got all 4 of my reptiles from here, as well as regularly going back for my supplies. Let me tell you why this is a shop that truly cares. Firstly, the owner has years of with all different types of species. She also co owns a company that brings animals and animal education to schools and events. She gives back to the community, not only by taking in reptiles that can no longer be taken care of, but also offering children a place for volunteer and learn about different species and how to interact with them. There is only one other reptile shop in the near by area and they are profit based and rude. Often over stocking babies and younger reptiles, instead of helping displaced reptiles find a home and restocking only when appropriate cage sizes have vacancies. I have no idea why anyone would rate this shop lower than 5/5. I've been a loyal patron for a few years now, and truly couldn't have found my perfect babies without Riley and her team. My cornsnake was abandoned at Riley's door and was scales and bones. She took him in, helped him regain his weight, until I found him, took over his treatment and brought him to his forever home. This is the kind of person she is and business she runs.

I have purchased beetle larva from them at the Reptile Super Show in Pomona. It is definitely a much more unique reptile/exotics shop than the other ones that are in somewhat close vicinity in SoCal. As far as I know, this is the only physical location that specializes in a diverse range of hormone free pacman and chaco horned frogs. There's a wide variety of morphs, colors, and sizes. They are also the ONLY physical shop I know that has such a wide variety of invertebrates. I know some shops have tarantulas and maybe some death feigning beetles, but that's it. Jamjam has those and so much more! There's various beetles as well as their larval counterparts in various stages of development, along with any supplies that you may need to allow them to thrive imported Japanese beetle jellies, their own mix of flake soil, leaf litter, bark, etc. They also have different praying mantises as well (first time I have seen them sold outside of a reptile show), scorpions, and some really neat air breathing land snails that I have never seen before. I love the swirl patterns they have and I'm for sure going to come back for them. They also have have a wide range of affordable isopods too. Much cheaper than what it would be if I were to order an entire starter kit and the actual isopods online. I love the acrylic set up with the substrate, leaf litter, bark, and charcoal pieces in them with my new little orange guys. Additionally, they have feeders available: mice, mealworms, waxworms, tilapia filet, crickets, hornworms, and a lot of different feeder roaches available (discoid, lobster, red runner etc). Aside from the East Bay Vivarium up in NorCal, I haven't seen this level of variety of feeders, which, as an exotics owner, is very exciting! As they're still setting up, the reptiles they seemed to have when I visited were hognose snakes and some, what I think were ball pythons, but I believe that they'll be having some geckos and other reptiles as things move along. And if you also have a furry friend at home, they have bandanas, collars, leashes, and dog accessories as well. Another thing I loved was how informative, friendly, and helpful the owner is. He answered all my questions, gave tips and tricks, and gave really good husbandry advice. As this is somewhat of a niche hobby, I love to see that. They're in the process of getting everything situated, so I'm really excited to see what will be in store (and hopefully what will be in my room) in the future!

This is literally the place you need to go. My son has been begging us for a snake for years, and as he is pretty young, we didn't want to just dive in with it. He's in sixth grade now, and his little sister's in third grade. We figured they're probably old enough now to be able to take care of a reptile. I had seen this place advertised previously and we happen to be down in Ventura so we went and checked it out. We talked with who I would imagine is the owner, an extremely knowledgeable person who also happens to be friendly and helpful. He gave us what I would call almost too much information as we are brand new two the whole reptile thing, there's so much to learn and there's so much knowledge he wanted to impart on us The kids are interested in a baby snake of some kind, and we were lucky enough that they had a fair amount of young snakes in the shop of all kinds of different exotic varieties. We ended up taking a small python home in our kids are over the moon with it. It's a beautiful creature and they had a lot of of the items that we needed in stock there to be able to set up our terrarium correctly. I would highly recommend the shop, as everybody we spoke to there was very kind, professional, and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back

I visited here before, years ago, but this was before I kept lizards myself, and now coming back, I was delightfully surprised to see that they have upgraded immensely and modernized. Everything is super clean and sleek looking! Honestly very refreshing since, no offense, many other reptile stores are a bit more aged and cluttered. The set up of the enclosures are a delight to look at! Alright, I don't want to be a hater to the other reptile shops, but AT MOST, the fanciest thing you're going to see is MAYBE a uromastyx, but I was SO EXCITED to see the reptiles that they had here. Like, yes they have bearded dragons and geckos too, but it's not PILES of them and they have much fancier morphs. That black red monster beardie that they have is gorgeous. However, I got to see full grown, inquisitive ackie monitors, an Asian water monitor, Leachies that aren't over $1k, various tree monitors, a Baron's Racer, lovely fire skinks, Kimberly rock monitors, a Gidgee skink (NFS), etc. I have seen some of these ONLY at zoos, reptile shows, or the East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley (the oldest reptile store in the nation). So for the Basking Spot to have these species is a huge testament to the shop's dedication to the craft and hobby. I got my questions answered and I can see that the community loves shopping here. Proper husbandry and breeding practices (as you can see from the fire skinks they have, not the easiest to breed) and responsible ownership, we love to see it! ALSO, it is almost impossible for me to find wax worms, let alone silk worms in person as feeders for my lizards. Sometimes my local pet store has the wax worms and it's a hit and miss if I go to IE and can find silk worms. I GOT BOTH HERE! And the worker was nice enough to carefully pick them out so they weren't pupated yet, thank you! The shop is a bit farther for me, but I will come back 100%!!

The supply selection is a little more limited, but everything they carry is solid and well chosen, so it still feels like a complete shop. They also have a very impressive collection of reptiles. Some truly beautiful species that are clearly well cared for. If you're into snakes, lizards, or other exotics, it is definitely worth a visit.
