Man oh man. The food and the staff are both reasons to come back here. Staff is jokes and down to earth! As for the food.. it tastes just as good as it looks in the pics ;) Beware of your spice preference tho! Some of it does cause your upper lip to sweat.

My sister and came to Toronto for a comedy show. Initially we were going to go The Kensington Market, but was raining so we needed a place with great food and drinks to kill time. When I tell you Afrobeats Kitchen did not disappoint!! Afrobeats is located in an eclectic area in Toronto. We almost drove past it twice due to the name of restaurant being on a stand up floor sign. Though it is not big in size the this restaurant has a huge personality. We explained to our waiter, Today, that we have never eaten Nigerian food and would need some help. He playfully gave us a Nigerian food 101 course including great recommendations for first timers of this cuisine. The food : for starters we got sticky suya hot wings and corn ribs( one of our waiters favorite) . When I tell you this wings are not your regular wings. These were breaded whole wings packed with with flavor and sort of spicy chutney on the side. The corn ribs were light seasoned but that spicy peanut sauce on the bottom was everything. Oh and I can't forget our drink, Zobo Zombie!! We only needed one for us to be smiling from ear to ear, lmaooooo. For our main course we got party of jollof rice paired with peppered chicken, plantains and slaw and egusi paired with peppered chicken fufu!! I now understand why people love jollof rice so much, the jollof and pepper chicken combo!!! Such flavorful combo!! I love that tomato base of the rice, it wasn't saucy but also it wasn't dry!! Not gonna lie I began to but the egusi on top of my jollof rice, dont knock it til you try it, lol. The nice things about this restaurant is they have 3 heat levels. Initially we got medium heat for everything but thought the egusi needed a lil more heat. Our waiter,Today, said say less, and brought us some hot sauce. The hot sauce it self was just heat but had soo many different flavors just took our egusi to the next level!! I could seriously go on and on about this place. We just went yesterday and I shared my love for this place with sooo many people. The staff, the food and the music I literally forgot for a second we were in Toronto, Canada. They have set the bar so high for Nigerian food, I may need to keep traveling 2 hour from Buffalo, NY just ti re-live this experience......yes everyone it was that good!!

I hadn't heard of Afrobeat Kitchen before we ate there, but I've never not enjoyed a meal consisting of African dishes, so I was more than happy to give it a shot. We showed up shortly after they opened on a recent weekend and the place was already mostly full. It's a very tiny room, which meant that we were about a foot away from the table next to us. Not great, but what can you do? We decided to share the Party Jollof ("West African celebration staple! Rice cooked in a fiery bell pepper, onion & tomato reduction") and Buka Beef Stew ("lucious beef shank braised in tomato & palm butter sauce with coco rice & fried plantains"). The wait for the food was pretty crazy, maybe around a half hour, but it was absolutely worth the wait. Both dishes are absolutely incredible and bursting with tasty flavors and layers. The spice level is right on point, too. The proteins are as tender as you could want, while the other components, including the delicious fried plantains, complement both dishes perfectly. I'm a big fan of stews in any configuration, and these were both among the best I've had in recent memory, so I couldn't possibly recommend Afrobeat Kitchen with more enthusiasm.

Your wait for the next West African restaurant in the toronto area is over! We discovered this little gem on the west end by accident. The menu is small, but mighty and carries the traditional food. We came here on a Thursday night without reservations. We were seated right away. The interior is tight but very cozy. Their chef is Nigerian so you will get the Naija heat and influence. We decided to go with the classics: Jollof rice and Egusi both with chicken. We also got a side of Naija hot sauce as we weren't sure whether we would be able to handle the heat. The food was fresh to order. This was probably the best west African food I've had in the Toronto area. The food was spicy and flavourful. The Egusi was not too bitter and you could really taste the crawfish and every ingredient. The pounded yam did not feel or taste stale/old. Everything was fresh! Layers and layers of texture! To top it off, the service was also top notch. And the prices are very affordable. It came down to around $25/pp. Highly recommend this place! 10/10 will be back!

An incredible little hole in the wall restaurant with friendly staff and the best music! The jollof rice was 10/10 with incredibly seasoned rice and tender juicy chicken! First time trying miso mafe with pounded yam instead of the coconut rice and it was a delicious vegetarian meal, was super filling because of the starch. Highly recommend their rooibos tea that they kept from when they used to be a café!

Afrobeat Kitchen has been on my radar for awhile and I finally got to try them since they recently moved to a new location in Parkdale! They specialize in West African cuisine, which I never had before and was excited try! Shrimp Surfer was really good. It was flavourful with a kick of heat. It's a crispy plantain chip with garlic jumbo shrimp, smashed avocado, and spicy ata din din (west African pepper sauce) on top. Sticky Suya Hot Wings was yummy. Nicely dry rubbed chicken wings. The meat wasn't dry. Really enjoyed the flavours of the chicken alone but dip it in the spicy sauce to level up that flavour. Party Jollof was my favourite dish of my experience. It definitely left a party in my mouth. The rice was really flavour with a perfect balance of spicy and Smokey. The shrimp was bouncy and crunchy. You can also choose beef or chicken for this dish. The slaw was a nice palate refresher from the savoury flavours. I would definitely recommend this dish. Beef Stew with Pounded Yam was a nice experience. First time trying pounded yam or fufu. You have to order this on the side. The fufu is the big white ball you see in the picture. It's starchy in texture with a slight sweet note to it. It was a great balance to the savoury beef stew. I liked the stew. I think the flavour was perfect. The beef was tender. I would recommend trying it. Definitely check out Afrobeat Kitchen!

Since this place first opened last year, I've been wanting to try it…read more 2022 was my virgin experience with Nigerians and their food, specifically jollof rice, something I had initially at Afrofest at Woodbine Park and then later at Mild Afro Lounge and restaurant. If you had Ethiopian food, and think that's the end of Africa, you're wrong-oh! Nigerian food is completely different and more lovable by far. I'm a huge fan so far, after just trying it thrice. Starting with the rice, it's that engaging chewy texture to the rice itself that is totally addictive and unlike any other fried rice dish I've tried. And the flavour-forward bold and distinctive seasoning that starts in your mount and permeates all the way to your brain and beyond. Incredible and a huge step in varieties of experiences food-wise that you are likely to have in your life. My dish, seen in the pics, came with a side of plantain. Carrying on with the theme of a smashingly-good outside charred-like texture and caramelized-flavour along with a tender and moist-soft yellow fluffy inside these little buttons of joy make an incredible taste experience on your tongue. And last but not least is the chicken legs (with thigh). Omg that sauce is tangy-spicy good! And the outside of the chicken has a caramelized chewy texture that is totally addictive and had me gnawing away at the bones trying to find every little morsel of it. The inside is tender juicy dark meat, wonderfully soaked in that epic sauce flavour. How many times have I mentioned "flavour" in this review? Not enough, you need to experience this for yourself! Highly recommended in a barren strip of Spadina, just south of Bloor on the east side. Check out the menu and go with a group so you can try more stuff, and... invite me, I wanna wanna go!! Anytime, NO Wahala!

Great new African Jollof joint, a new location for this GTA chain, now in Queen West…read more This is the real deal folks, absolute champions at the game and not for the faint of heart. I discovered Jollof at Afrofest a couple years ago and hooked on that tangy spiced rice and chicken. There's steam trays at the back to choose your selections from and create a dish. Starting with 3 kinds of rice, of course including the reddish Jollof rice. Then move on to the meat and veg dishes to complement the rice. Many choices from fish, whole chunks almost caramelized into chewy spicy goodness, turkey, chicken, all drenched and simmering in intensely spicy sauces. Let the super friendly staff suggest topping the rice with some of that ish and it's pure heaven! I grabbed a Zobo, a home made drink concoction that sounds like the Caribbean ginger beer. Staff cautioned me not to drink it with the spicy food I ordered so it's coming home with me. Not gonna ignore that caution! There's a bar and comfy pseudo booth style two tops along the wall to hang in and take in the ambiance as well as the Afro beat music going on. My only complaint would be the value. My meal was $22.95 not including a drink. In a competitive market like Queen West where there are plenty of good value meals this is pricey. And I left wanting more so there was no leftovers to take home. Welcome to the hood Africa, glad you're here with us : )

He also enjoys talking about himself and his experience at the restaurant for the past 16 years and the other stuff he's done before it. On the table comes with 4 different sauces that you can use during the meal. There are indian and african dishes on the menu, catering to both vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. There's an entire section dedicated to grilled meats, and even a meat platter that you can split. A subset of our group ordered an african thali platter along with the simba grill platter. The thali platter came with Ugali. Having never tried it before, it was an interesting experience. As described, it was tasteless on its own and is meant to be eaten with curry or other flavouring. The curries that came with the platter were great. The grill platter comes with various different offerings of BBQ, including wings, beef mishkaki (cubes of beef), chicken mishkaki (cubes of chicken...), and spare ribs, along with some salad and fries. It is a great way to sample each option to see what you like. We also ordered some ice cream, which is said to be homemade It is definitely very different from the stuff you'd get wholesale, and a single bowl comes with a large serving. It's a bit out of the way if you don't drive, but it's a good place to stop by.
