I was in the area for work and stopped by to grab some takeout for my husband and I. I got the Ajebutter Beef Combo ($19.99) and the Ajebutter Chicken Combo ($19.99). Both combos came with coleslaw, rice and plantains. I chose Jollof rice. The beef combo had 2 large tender cubes of beef. The chicken combo had 3 drumsticks. My husband and I shared the combos. The beef was lean and tender. I really enjoyed it. I liked the fried chicken too. Both meats were full of flavour. They were sitting in a puddle of oil though. The Jollof rice was spicy and delicious, but a bit too oily for my liking. The plantains were soft and sweet. The coleslaw was tangy and vinegary. I liked that it wasn't cream based. I usually don't like coleslaw, but I liked this one. Service was pleasant and fairly quick. The restaurant has lots of seating. It's brightly lit and clean. Looks to be newly built/ renovated. They have a couch and Scrabble tile-like decorations on the wall. The interior is funky and cool-looking. Glad to have discovered this Nigerian restaurant. I'm not in this part of town much anymore, but would gladly return in the future. Looking forward to trying their other items. There is free parking in front of the restaurant in a small shared parking lot with neighbouring businesses. (63)

If so, I learned that the owner of those 2 places is the owner of the newly opened OB&O Afro-Caribbean Restaurant! I missed out on eating at Fumi's and Mugena's, so was glad to be able to try OB&O. The food is delicious!! My husband and I shared the Jerk Chicken Platter ($16.99) and the Beef Roti and Salad (which was actually coleslaw) ($11.99). The Jerk Chicken Platter came with a chicken leg (drumstick with thigh attached), 4 pieces of plantains, and lots of rice and beans. The chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender and so flavourful. It had a good amount of heat to it. So I wouldn't recommend it if you can't handle spice. It's not overly spicy, but definitely has some kick. I loved the chicken. The plantains were sweet and soft without being mushy. They were great. The rice was plentiful and spotted with red kidney beans. It also had a spicy kick to it. My only complaint is that it was a bit too oily for my tastes. However, it was still incredibly enjoyable. The Beef Roti was also delicious. The beef cubes, although not all that plentiful, were tender and lean. The potatoes and chickpeas were a good consistency, not too hard but not too mushy. Overall, very tasty, and not spicy at all. I was not a fan of the coleslaw, but I don't like coleslaw in general. It was a mayo-based coleslaw with cabbage, carrots and cucumbers. The latter is an ingredient I don't usually see in coleslaw, so props to them for that. It wasn't bad, I just don't like coleslaw. Overall, we both really enjoyed the food. I'm looking for to trying the African food there. We got takeout and the takeout boxes were styrofoam. I would have preferred cardboard boxes. I waited maybe 15-20 minutes for my food. They have some Jamaican patties in the warmer if you're looking for a quick grab and go snack. They are $2.99 each. The inside of the restaurant is very casual. The tables have plastic over them. OB&O is in the space that was formerly Mont Tacos. Street parking or parking in the strip mall lot, which is small.

I was poking around on UberEats looking for deals, as I often do, and came across this new restaurant. I searched online and their website was under construction at the time and their Google Maps listing hadn't had any pictures up yet, so I was a bit hesitant, but I decided to take a chance, especially since they had some great BOGO (buy one get one free) deals on UberEats. I ordered the Fried Chicken Combo ($13 BOGO) which comes with 2 pieces of fried chicken and 2 sides and I bought 2 extra pieces of fried chicken ($7 BOGO). So in total I got 8 pieces of fried chicken and 4 sides for only $20. What a deal! So glad I took a chance and tried this restaurant because the food was delicious! The chicken was so good. The skin was so crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. All the pieces were thighs and drumsticks. I got 2 sides of rice and peas and 2 sides of cabbage. The rice and peas (beans) was delicious. It had a strong coconut milk flavour to it which I loved. Yet it wasn't too oily. The rice was soft and fluffy. Excellent! The cabbage was also delicious and had some pieces of potatoes mixed in. So I had ordered on UberEats for pickup. There were a few hiccups, but they were new (just opened on Feb 23, 2024 which was just 4 days before my visit) and they were so friendly and welcoming, and I got a great deal, so I forgave, lol. So shortly after I placed my order, I got notification that my order was ready. I was shocked but thought maybe they had the stuff premade like at food courts. So I drove over since I was nearby and when I arrived they apologized and said they made a mistake, it would actually be another 25 minutes. Lol. I was already at the restaurant, so I just waited there. Then I got my food after the wait, and they forgot about the BOGO so I just received half of my order. When I advised them they were again apologetic and quickly went off to make the rest of my order, but I had to wait another 25 minutes. They offered to deliver it to me themselves, but I was ok to wait. They are a small independent business and family run. The chef, Vicky, was lovely. As was her daughter who was there helping. And her little grandson was there too. I love supporting business like this. They were so genuine and sincere. I always root for restaurants that are strong on love and passion for the food even if weak on the logistics and business end of running a restaurant. There are tables for dining in. The ambience is casual. I did like that the containers were cardboard and not styrofoam. Extra points for environmental responsibility and it's better for health reasons too (no nasty chemicals leaching into the food from styrofoam). Free parking available on-site. I'm so thrilled to see more culinary diversity here in Ottawa. After Stonefaced Dolly closed down there hasn't been another South African restaurant in the city until Soweto Kitchen opened up. Wishing Soweto Kitchen much success!! (28)

I had been to the one in Orleans on Tompkins before but it was my first time at this Bayshore location. This Bayshore restaurant is bigger and brighter than the Orleans restaurant and looks much newer/more recently renovated. I got a quarter chicken meal here with jollof rice, fries and salad. I got a leg (drumstick and thigh). The chicken was very flavourful and although cooked on charcoal didn't have that unpleasant burnt smell/taste that charcoal cooked chicken sometimes has. So I was pleased with that. The jollof rice was spicy but a bit clumpy. The fries were wedges and were crispy. I liked that the salad was a mesclun mix with some grated carrots and wasn't iceberg lettuce. I just felt there was way too much creamy dressing. I would have preferred maybe a fifth of the amount of salad dressing, lol. Takeout comes in a plastic box. Yay it's not styrofoam! Cardboard would be better though. Staff were friendly. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with a pawn shop and other restaurants. Free parking available at the strip mall shared parking lot. (21)

Can eat in or order out (pickup or internet) On first visit my wife had the $9.99 Lunch Special - 1/4 BBQ's chicken leg + ample fries, and a bottle of water. Remarked on chicken being tender and tasty as were the fries. I had the Lamb Skewers Plate $25.28 - 2 good sized skewers of lamb, served with jollof rice, chef salad and a choice of fries or plantains-I had the fried plantains along with a bottle of water ($2.38 each) The lamb was very tender and flavourful. The salad was a blend of various greens with sliced tomatoes and a good dressing. The jollof rice had a nice zesty flavouring, and the fried plantains complemented everything else very well. All portions were ample, and I took what we didn't eat took home for supper. Next time I'll try the Goat Platter. Went back for a second lunch accompanied by my son. I had the Goat Skewers Plate ($25.78). Like before with the lamb, received 2 good sized skewers of goat, served with jollof rice, same chef salad and a choice of fries or plantains-ample portions-I again had the fried plantains. Ate half my meal and took the remainder home. My son had the Shrimp Skewers Plate with fried plantains, mixed greens salad, and Jollof rice. Remarked on how pleasantly surprized he was at the quality and quantity. Overall believe the good quality, ample portions, and price Make it a place to return to.

I got the Lamb Meal with rice ($16.50), the Chicken and Beef Mix Suquaar plate with rice ($15.99) and the Chicken Sabaya Wrap ($10.50). The lamb was so tender, flavourful and a generous portion. It wasn't gamey at all. In fact, my mom and I who hate gamey meats loved the lamb. It came with some large pieces of potatoes and carrots. The rice was soft and fluffy and had good flavour. It had some fried onions sprinkled on top. The salad was extremely boring though. It was literally just iceberg lettuce with a creamy dressing. It's the only thing I didn't care for. My dad loved the suquaar. It was his favourite dish. I liked it, but I enjoyed the lamb and the wrap more. The suquaar was flavourful and had the slightest spicy kick to it. The green hot sauce was phenomenal and adding it to the suquaar gave it that fiery kick that I love. It suquaar had pieces of chicken, beef, potatoes, onions and carrots. The Sabaya Wrap was so good. Some places make Sabaya so oily and greasy, buy not at Sabaya Shack, theirs was soft, chewy and not oily/greasy at all. It's similar to chapati. The chicken was lean and full of flavour. The sauce was slightly sweet. There was lettuce and onions in the wrap too. Service was courteous and efficient. The guy even brought my food out to my car. The place is takeout only. There is no place to dine in. It's in an industrial park. There is limited parking in front of place shared by all units of the industrial park. Note that the unit is C7. So it's in Building C. Follow the signage. Each building has its own sign that tells you the layout of the numbered units. I saw lots of lost people (I think they were food couriers) looking for businesses within the industrial park, lol. A hidden gem worth the effort to find!!

The food at this location was similar to the other location: very tasty, but a bit pricey for the small portions. We got the 2 whole chickens family combo ($49.50). This came with 2 really small chickens, rice, plantains, and salad. For the chicken you can get mild, medium spicy, or spicy. We got one mild (for the kids) and one spicy. The spicy one was delicious. They don't fool around, it's really spicy! The mild one was flavourful, but I definitely likes the spicy one better. They were both a little too oily/greasy for my liking, but I still enjoyed it. The chickens were really small, much smaller than roasted chickens you'd get at Loblaws, Metro, etc. The rice was soft and fluffy. It contained peas, carrots, corn, green bean pieces. I think it's from the frozen vegetable mix (you know the one I'm talking about, I think it's called Macedoine Mix). Anyway, it was good. I loved the plantains. They were soft and slightly sweet. The salad was a romaine salad with carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and green peppers. It came with your choice of Caesar or balsamic dressing on the side (we chose balsamic). Ingredients were fresh. Staff were very nice and friendly. The place is new and clean. It's in a strip mall (same plaza as Just Wok, Orleans Bakery, and Gabriel's Pizza). There's lots of free parking.
