I stopped by African Grill recently to pick up some takeout for dinner and the food was awesome!
So I got the Chicken Braai Combo ($15.99) which came with a chicken leg (drumstick and thigh, with the thigh cut up into smaller pieces), rice, plantains and a salad, and the food was like a flavour party in my mouth! LOL. I don't know what spices they use for the chicken, but it was phenomenal! A little bit spicy and bursting with flavour. The rice was well seasoned too, and it was also a little bit spicy. The plantains were soft, but not mushy and the right amount of sweetness and ripeness. The salad was meh, and drenched in too much dressing. It was mostly romaine, a tiny piece of cucumber and 2 tiny pieces of red peppers. However, I'm willing to overlook the salad, because the chicken, rice and plantains were just so good.
My only complaint with the chicken is that the thigh was cut up into smaller pieces and they cut through bone, so I did have a few bone shards in my meal that I had to spit out. I would have preferred that the thigh be left as one big piece.
Service was friendly and efficient. The inside of the restaurant is cool looking with lots of wood. They have some booths and some regular tables, and 2 big screen TVs in there. The exterior is not as nice, because it's in that oddly positioned strip mall on Clyde where the stores are perpendicular to the street so when driving along you only see the end store (Princess Shawarma) and other stores are stacked behind it, whereas most strip malls are parallel to the street so when driving by you see the storefronts of all the stores. Anyway, there's lots of free parking. It's in the same strip mall as Princess Shawarma, La Noodle, PhatBoy Fireworks, and M&J Tropical Supermarket.
I noticed that they have Suya too!
