For the longest time was a regular at a chain gym and focused primarily on weightlifting. I decided that I wasn't being fulfilled in my workouts and wanted to try something I had never done before; CrossFit. I was always skeptical about trying CF but reached out to see what it was all about. I had a new member consultation with Joe and was immedietly drawn to check out more. Joe walked me through his fitness journey and really hit on every point I was concerned about. He recommended started with some PT to see where I was at physically and get me comfortable with proper CF form. I felt so much better about starting CF after the training and felt like in such a short time my form and athleticism had tremendously improved. Coach Joe is amazing and really works to tailor the workouts to your needs. I took my first CF class recently and to say I'm hooked is an understatement. I am so glad to have found a gym that is so incredibly welcoming and motivating (both coaches and members). Including this "skinny-fat" girl who hasn't worked out in over two months. To say I was skeptical of Crossfit would be a gross understatement. Like you, I have made the occasional joke at my sister's expense about the cult of Crossfit. I imagined insanely fit people, or folks who were just generally over-the-top, yelling at each other while throwing weights on the ground, grunting, and pushing themselves to unhealthy places. And then I finally agreed to go to a buddy workout with my sister at her Crossfit studio. And then I ate my words. And burpeed them out again as new, and educated words. Words like "air squats" and "burpees," for that matter. The workout was posted ahead of time so we had an idea of how horrific it would be. I was prepared for the worst- the dreaded simultaneous puke/faint. Word of advice, eat a protein rich meal an hour ahead of class. I'm grateful my sister reminded me early because I have no doubt that I would have accomplished the puke/faint otherwise. Coach Joe and a woman coach (who was lovely and stayed to talk to me, but whose name escapes me) were so motivating. Coach Joe demonstrated each move we'd be doing in our long buddy sequence. What's that? You want another gross understatement? Here you go: "My big sister carried our team of two." I'm not ashamed to say that I worked at my own pace, and proud of it. The best part? Everyone in the room is doing their workout at their pace and no one is judging you. Overall, my preconceptions were wrong and I loved the warm vibes this place.

The workouts are different every day and are one hour long. The coaches are very knowledgeable and attentive. The location is what attracted me first since I live nearby and it is convenient for me. The prices are relatively the same as other crossfit gyms in Orlando. They offer morning classes as early as 6am Monday to Friday and have afternoon and evening classes. They offer yoga a couple times a week and have an olympic weight lifting class also which helps you understand the movements and technique. There is a free class offered on Saturday mornings for new people. Saturday there are two morning classes and closed on Sundays. The great thing about this place is that you can be totally out of shape or an elite athlete and you can do whatever the workout is. All of the workouts are scaled to whatever your capabilities are so do not let your level of fitness stop you from giving it a try.

I would call this a hidden gem of gyms…read more I accidentally discovered Orlando Barbell as I was driving around my area looking for gyms. I was looking for a gym just for the summer and needed a deal. I spoke with the owner Brian, who was super helpful and gave me a 3 month deal so I wouldn't need to pay sign up fees. The gym itself is quite small, but really has everything I need. There's a lot of equipment that may look odd, but the reason is the gym is catered toward powerlifters. Which may sound intimidating but don't be. The people that go to the gym here are all really friendly. They will often acknowledge you as you walk in, unlike other larger gyms, and you won't see one of those Jersey boys walking around. The regulars here are very helpful in answering questions that you may have. Most of the time the gym isn't too packed. The most I've seen on a busy day would probably be about 8 or so. Usually there is only 1 or 2 people around, and the reason is this is a 24 hour gym, so you can come and go whenever. No restrictions if you like to workout at 2 in the morning. They also have a filtered water dispenser which I love, non of that water fountain crap. The reason I deducted 1 star is because some of the seats are starting to look a little worn. Tape has replaced the holes and the tape has started coming off. The place is also a little hard to walk around sometimes, but they use the space well. There aren't too many machines around, basically the most common ones, mostly free weights. The gym is priced really well, only $30 for adults, and there are discounts if your a student, fireman, etc. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a gym around the area.

I've been looking for a powerlifting gym since I compete in raw powerlifting. I had heard about…read morethis place so I decided to check it out. While there were some good things, I was pretty disappointed. I'll start with the good. There's a couple power racks, a decent monolift, and a couple competition style bench presses. There's also resistance bands and chains, along with specialty bars. The people seem very friendly too. As for the bad, there was many things to point out. First, the space is small, but not a deal breaker. The problem is right when you walk in, you'll notice a ton of out of date machines that take up all the space. That space could be used for more power racks, monos, deadlift platforms, etc. This also limits the amount of space used to warm up and/or do mobility work. I feel that if this is a powerlifting gym, it should be catered more towards powerlifters. There's a couple beneficial machines, but I'd much rather just go to an LA Fitness to use machines if I didn't do powerlifting. If the front room had power racks, squat racks, benches, and/or deadlift platforms instead, it would make the place seem bigger. The main room for actual powerlifting is better than the first room, but far from perfect. It's very difficult to get the different kinds of bars because they are tucked away in the corner. There are also a couple pointless pieces of equipment like a calf raise and preacher curl. I don't see why they are in the powerlifting room. MThe deadlift platform also has a bunch of little bumps on it, which creates an ineffective surface to deadlift because the bar will not stay in one place. Overall, this gym will get the job done, but it will be inconvenient. The size is fine, but with the amount of machines, it makes the space seem much smaller. The front room should have actual powerlifting equipment instead of machines that are inferior to other gym's machine. It just seems like this gym doesn't have a set identity. If this is a powerlifting gym, it's a pretty underwhelming one. If it's a bodybuilding/general fitness gym, it's pretty bad compared to the other gyms around like LA Fitness, Crunch, Zoo Healthclub, etc. You can't have both, and with the popularity of powerlifting increasing over the last few years, I'm surprised this gym doesn't just fully embrace powerlifting like they say they do. I've been to other powerlifting gyms, and this one ranks near the bottom for me.

I've been going to Ethos fka Crossfit Country for 8 years and I do not have a set schedule that I…read morego to. Somedays I'm an early riser, some days I'm at noon and some days I'm in the evening. The good thing about that is I get to meet and get to know everyone who goes there. There are several things that I love about Ethos: 1) The people are amazing. No matter what class you go to everyone is friendly, encouraging and I can always find someone who pushes me to be better. 2) There's plenty of space and enough equipment. I can't think of a time where we did not have enough weights for everyone. There are some gyms that aren't well equipped and this isn't one of them. 3) The app to keep track of your workouts, your benchmarks for weightlifting, and your progress 4) The programming. The workouts are strategic to work your entire body while focusing on certain groups together. While some things may be out of your wheel house the coaches always have options for modifying a movement to make it easier or more challenging for you. 5) This is a great option for both cardio and getting stronger. 6) The coaching staff is very knowledgeable and know a lot more than just lifting weights. From diet and nutrition to proper stretching they are true experts in their fields. If you're looking for a gym where you can get faster, leaner, stronger and lose weight but also have a good time with great people than look no further.

I live closer to three other CrossFit boxes (gyms) but I don't mind the extra drive due to the group of people running and attending CrossFit Country!

The coaches are amazing, focused on correct form, building skill, and making sure you get the most out of every workout. They have scaled options for everything, so no matter where you're at, you'll feel like you can do this and grow. I love walking in, seeing the workout, and thinking, I'm going to do that?! The "during" is always challenging, but walking out feeling proud and accomplished makes it all worth it. I've made this part of my daily routine, and I'm already seeing results. I was morbidly obese, depressed and unable to walk more than a block due to knees with bone on bone. Mahmood Ghaisarzadeh, the owner, rehabilitated my knees. He used electrical stimulation and the ancient Chinese art of cupping. Daniel Fountain, another licensed trainer, is a great trainer who has made me much stronger. Today my knees are much improved and I am able to walk for blocks with no pain. I can lift 50 to 60 pounds and am strong. I have lost 35 pounds and am no longer depressed. Do yourself a favor and see what these great trainers can do for you TODAY!

I wish I could give a zero star - you would too if you lost over $1,000 bucks to this dishonest…read morebusiness owner. Money aside, the whole experience with him is simply TERRIBLE. It's been a year now since I had that frustrating argument with him. I wish I could let it go, forget about his disgusting (yes disgusting pardon me to use this word) claims and responses, but it still makes me sick (literally) every time I passed this location. At first I went in to check the gym because there's a giant sign stating "only $5 per week for gym membership". However, the gym is really tiny, all the equipments are really really close to each other. And that should be my first warning sign of getting out. Unfortunately I didn't and Mahmood talked to me, he told me that if you put down $300 - $400 bucks then you only need to pay $5 a week (it's been a while so the numbers might be a little off). He even claimed that it's just an advertisement to attract people in. I should be alerted again at that moment - but I didn't either. I do understand the use of sales methods, but didn't realize until later that this is just the beginning of his dishonesty. Later he offered me a "free" assessment, which is an experience of his, oh it's actually his assistant's, personal training. It lasted about 30 min and to be honest it was not bad. And afterwards he started to aggressively offer me the "package". He even claimed that he is blabla certified and has blabla credentials, and he mocked at other trainers as "I don't even know how they could provide personal training since I am the only on who holds these licenses". I can't remember the details of all the hassle, but I was stupid enough to agree to prepaid over $1,000 bucks for his personal training package. Next time I went on my first personal training, it was trained by his assistant and he's not even there. I went there two more times, every time the training lasted only 40 minutes maximum and I got a little disappointed. The last time I went there I finally came across him. I asked him that hey did you assistant have blabla licenses? He replied angrily as "what do you want? His assistant has been with him for a few years and he is well qualified as your trainer." I was shocked at his responses. I didn't mean to judge anything, but since he "induced" me to purchase the package with his superb credentials, is my question off the limits? I felt disappointed, I do not wish to train there any more as I personally do not feel like trained by this type of person. So the next time I stopped by, I asked for a refund for the rest of the money. He seemed surprised and said no he cannot refund because it was charged on credit card. I was like ???. He then said he had another customer waiting for training and asked me to come back the next day. Then the drama began. I went in the next day, only saw his assistant, which was not surprising. His assistant took me out of the gym and said that Mahmood would not want to see me or talk to me at all. Not even over the phone. If I want to contact him, I can mail him or email him. I was irritated as he asked me to come back the next day and that was what's awaiting? Fine, I went back and write him a letter, politely asking my money back. I delivered it personally to his assistant, asked for his signature and date. No responses. Two weeks after, I wrote another letter as a final notice, personal deliver, asking for signature and date. Nothing either. I didn't know what to do. I asked my co-workers and they told me that I could ask for the State for help. I wrote them a detailed description, faxed them those two letters containing all the details (which is signed and confirmed by his assistant). Guess what? A few weeks later, I got his response from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, he stated that I had used up all my sessions. He even listed some made-up dates, out of which at some of those I was not even IN TOWN. Excuse me, how on earth would I be able to train there? How on earth would I use up all the sessions when I went there only three times? I was so angry at his DISGUSTING letter. But what can I do? I asked a lawyer and he friendly suggested me to let it go. Because they will charge at least $500 for just reading my letters. So I chose to let the dirty monster keep my money, and hope he would be punished for his sins. I don't know how many people would look at yelp when they are looking for a gym. But if you do, watch out my experience and be SMART.

For beginner's they welcome you with a free trial, and that gives you a chance to check out the facility and work out. The gym is clean, open and airy with the high- ceilings and warehouse environment. The bathrooms are uni- sex with showers and rubber matting on floors. The trainer I had for my free session was patient, and thorough showing me proper stances and positioning when doing moves. Needless to say, I signed up for future personal training classes with Carlos and look forward to my next class. Check them out!
