I'm extremely disappointed with the billing practices at Afinia Dental - Mason. We have dental insurance with 100 percent preventive coverage, and before each visit I confirmed with the front desk that our plan was active and in network. Despite that, I recently received two invoices--dated January 2026--for services performed in 2024 and 2025. These were the first and only notices I ever received. The statements show no insurance estimate, no insurance payment, and no prior balance, which strongly suggests the office either never submitted the claims or submitted them incorrectly. Preventive services should have been fully covered, and any failure to bill insurance or notify the patient for nearly two years is a provider issue, not a patient responsibility. When a dental office assures patients that insurance is in network, then sends surprise invoices years later with no explanation, it creates a serious trust and transparency problem. I hope they address the internal billing issues that led to this situation so other families don't experience the same frustration. read more

I booked appointments for me and my 4 children (different days/times). 2 were cancelled the week before, and the other 2 weren't cancelled prior - but I showed up and door was locked. Called office and they said doctor was out. Dental appts are booked so far out, that when cancelled it is impossible to get rescheduled. I can understand one having a conflict, but all 4 and terrible customer service was unacceptable. read more

I have had issues with my two front teeth for years, been to some of the best dentist in this city, wore braces, had every procedure possible other than implants, went to Dr. Ryan Gusbar at Alfinia dental and I have had the best experience ever in my life. My front teeth problems started when I was 13 and I am 68 now and I can say what they did for me has truly been amazing. I highly recommend them. read more

I had both the best and worse dental experience at Affinia - and no one has returned my call to allow me to provide feedback. Best: the hygienist. She provided me with the most motivating information on brushing and flossing I have ever received, and it will make a difference in my oral hygiene. Worst: the dentist came in with no introduction, started sharing blatant misinformation about crime in Italy, said she would "shoot them in the butt" if anyone stole from her, continued about her shooting abilities - and said nothing about my teeth. Previous experience with hygienists and dentists has been good. I will NOT see this dentist again. read more

RUINED my quality of life. They told me I needed a crown and carved out my natural tooth which left my face bruised and swollen for a week then temporary cap fell off next day. The new crown was to big, instead of making another the right size they carved up 4 other teeth to make it fit, could not chew on that side almost 3 months andd this is the only tooth which every bite traps food. The permanent crown caused suffering about 4 years before it popped off, they put it back on and referred me to another dentist for my trouble read more

I'm not sure what's going on here. A lot of turn over and/or staff changes in the office and inconsistent service. I recently had an issue with my billing. Received letter, I'm not calling it a bill or invoice because it had very limited information and just a balance. Called the office and billing rep was extremely rude. Basically was laughing at us because we did not understand her explanation. She instructed us to come into the office. After going in we explained that we had no officials itemized billing statements to correspond to the amount we initial paid. Then she noted we owed additional amounts from 6 months ago and I explained we never received a bill. Continuing to make excuses and say she don't understand why we did not receive a bill making assumptions we were lying. Then another worker stepped in to mention they were switching billing systems and the system was not sending out billing statements/invoices. You can't expect customers to pay a bill we never received and can't expect customers to pay a bill with not official billing invoices and itemized documentation to the charges. Sending out a letter stating you owe this amount with no explanation and /or expecting customers to pay based off insurance company explanation of benefit letter which clearly states this is not a bill, is not good enough. Then being rude, talking down to people and basically laughing in their face is totally unacceptable. We will be moving our entire family dental needs to someone else. read more

This was my first time at Afinia Dental. I had a great experience! The office was clean. I felt like this was the most informative visit I have had to the dentist before. They used nice X ray technology and cameras to help educate me. I felt like I received a very advanced examination. Krista was a great hygienist. She was super intelligent and was able to clean my teeth without causing me any pain (which surprised me). Then I saw Dr. Runyan who was also great. She was nice and informative and took time to answer my questions. I will be back in 6 months for my next appointment. Thanks for a great visit! read more

This dentist is a joke. Came in for a very small chip in my front tooth and they completely ruined my front row of teeth on the top and the bottom and my bite is no longer the same. They filled the whole tooth even though it was a small chip on the bottom with no damage to the rest of the tooth. The color is extremely yellow and very crooked. I continuously asked them to shave my tooth down so it wasn't so long and sharp like they made it, but the dentist was extremely rude and said it "looked fine". I and home extremely dissatisfied and was accompanied by intense tooth pain and sensitivity. Ended up having to go to a different dentist and they said it was a "shit job" and they shaved off everything she did and redid it and it looks perfect. Absolutely save your time, money, and confidence by not going here. read more

I have been going to Affinia dental in Mason since 2014. Our daughter started working there and it just so happened that our long time dentist retired. We decided to give this office a try. I can say that not only am I now a 7 year satisfied customer but so are several other family members including our daughter who changed professions and no longer works there. I have always been treated with courtesy and professionalism. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Dr. Runyan has proven to be very thorough and caring whenever I have had dental concerns. She has gone above and beyond to make sure I have received the best care. Most often, Krista has been my dental hygienist though I have also been cared for by Morgan. Both are wonderful-very thorough while making me feel at ease. I appreciate the importance of regular dental care yet I still consider having my teeth cleaned one of life's simple pleasures! Very unethical!!! They claimed they mailed out statements to pay an additional charge that my insurance did not cover. If this was the first time I probably would not be upset, but this is the 2nd time. I called in to get them to fix a crown job they did (that cracked), and I was informed my account was in collections. I work very hard to pay bills on time, and for them to not even contact me about $89 is crazy. They are putting people's credit in jeopardy for their questionable billing practices. I think the better business bureau needs to investigate their records. That's definitely a thought. Business practices is definitely unethical in my book. I will never recommend anyone here. read more

The permanent retainer behind my bottom teeth broke. I had had it for 15 years and had no idea what to do. I walked into this dentist and they were able to help. I have severe anxiety and the dentist I saw talked to me about different options moving forward to help and ease my anxiety at future appointments. I really appreciate this office and would recommend them to anyone. Every person on their staff that I spoke to was professional, helpful, and very kind. read more

They have told me that they are "at the mercy" of the insurance company!? You connected with the ins. co., told me what they would cover (in writing) and performed the procedure. THEN charged me an additional $252.00. If the ins. co. failed to inform you of a waiting period, seems to me that you have a problem with Humana. You should try to collect the $252 from THEM! Corporations (like Afinia and Humana) going after the easiest target (me) may be legal, but it is certainly unethical. read more

I spent my life in fear of the Dentist until I had work performed by Dr. Killgore at Afinia Dental. He communicated so well with what the procedure would be and what I could expect. Perfect! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the beautiful office set a relaxing stage. Love the coffee bar and the ipad station. Who thought you could actually enjoy a visit to the dentist! BRAVO! I went to the dentist today for a cleaning. I am 57 years old and have enjoyed going to the dentist all my life. Today the hygienist failed to floss my teeth and did not polish my teeth. At the time I didn't think much of it however; after I got in the car I realized my visit was short and I didn't feel the same as in the past. My teeth weren't polished, not as clean as the past. Then I realized that she failed to follow steps and those steps missing, were polishing the teeth and flossing. I spoke to my neighbor who laughed and said "that is like going to a hair dresser and they forget to cut your hair or wash your hair." Very disappointing. I wont go back to Afinia and I just pre- paid for a visit for my young son for a cleaning. Something is very wrong with this Mason location. I will report this to the dental society and I want a refund for my son as if they messed up this bad on me I wont allow them to hurt him. I would not go to this dental location. read more

I called Affinia because my regular dentist could not see me for several days after a permanent crown fell off. The person I spoke to you on the phone was very kind very patient while I scrambled to find my insurance information. She set me up with an appointment for the very next morning. Everyone I encounter at the office was very friendly professional and attentive. By the time my appointment was done they had contacted insurance and verified that everything was squared away. I saw Dr. Faulkner - she was very friendly. She did a good job explaining what my options were and what she recommended. She and her hygienist Casey did a great job building up my tooth for a new crown and getting a temporary in place. The temporary feels very comfortable. I will update the review after I get the permanent crown in place but my first impressions of this office are very positive. The estimated out-of-pocket for the crown seems more reasonable than at my previous provider. read more

Afinia is without a doubt the best place I've ever been for dental work. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Dr. Kilgore has always taken great care of me (wisdom teeth extracted, crown etc..). Will never go anywhere else. read more
