We dropped in on a Friday night around 6pm. There were no other customers, but more and more people came over the hour we were there, which was nice to see. I think the decor was basic but there were nice touches. The seating and tables were plain, but there was some absolutely beautiful Afghan art all around the restaurant. There are only six items on the menu, and since we hadn't visited before, we went for the $35 platter to share to get a taste of everything they have to offer. We also had a "small" order of delicious, fragrant, complex Afghan rice, which was an additional $10. The platter was massive and came with five different meats, chicken and beef. The chicken kebab was my favourite - amazingly tender. But everything was good. There was a big heap of salad in the middle, too. And I can't forget about the great, gigantic piece of Afghan bread that came with everything. The total was $48 before tip and we got four meals out of it. Not bad! I should note that I don't think they serve alcohol there. I probably wouldn't have noticed unless I overheard a man asking if they had a house wine and the waiter said no. I then noticed that there is a physical bar, but there was mostly pomegranate juice behind it. I didn't see alcohol anywhere or a drinks menu. As for service, I found it to be good. The man who came to our table was also, I'm assuming, the cook as he was going between the dining area and the kitchen. He was always smiling, asking us if everything was alright, and just generally a nice guy. The wait time for the food wasn't long, I think about 15 minutes. I wasn't keeping track. There was only one downside to the restaurant, and it's not something I usually comment on, but I have to. The bathroom was probably the dirtiest, messiest bathroom I've seen in North America. When I walked in there was a huge painting laying on the floor in front of the stalls. There were paper towels everywhere and things knocked over. There were only two stalls and both of the toilets were just gross. One of them was unusable. I'm not sure why it was in such a state, but I really hope this was just a bizarre situation and not the norm. All in all, I would still consider this place to be a hidden gem and you should definitely check it out. 4.5/5

This is a total experience. Not just the food. The atmosphere, the music, the tea, and the food. Immersion. Take a trip to the inner city, stop at the record store next door, look trough the vinyl and then stop in to eat at this authentic eatery.

Kabab Platter, it's got all the meat items...

Great food and customer service, they had live performance today for Father's Day. It's a great place for family and decent price

Tried this place out last night…read more From the start I was not impressed because the menu above the cashier was small and nothing really stood out to make this restaurant's menu unique in my mind. Further, they don't offer any healthy options like salads, soups or veggie subs. Everything is either beef this or chicken that. But what I thought they lacked in diversity they would make up for in quality (wrong). I ordered a poutine and a super beef donair. The poutine was about average but the donair was something else entirely........ Upon opening it I was surprised at how much meat was inside. Lots of beef indeed, I'll give'em credit for that. But when I tried to eat it, the pita was stuck to the foil wrapper and I couldn't get it loose without the whole thing falling apart into a big mess. So with a fork I started to eat it. The donair filling was about 90% meat, but very little tomato, lettuce or onions were included. Also, I distinctly told the guy I wanted sweet sauce, but he must of gave me a real mild garlic sauce or no sauce at all because besides the meat, the donair had no taste what so ever. I like my donairs with a diverse tastes, flavours and textures. These ones certainly didn't have them. It was a totally bland donair. I ended up throwing about a third of the donair in the garbage and walked out. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm no professional food critic, but after eating donairs in dozens of restaurants across town for years I can confidently assure you that Hot Donair Cafe serves the WORST donairs in town. If you're craving a donair and happen to be driving by the Hot Donair Cafe - keep driving.

I have never had a doniar, nor did I get one while here. Instead i just ordered the chicken burger…read moreand poutine fries, which were pretty damn good. The chicken burger was like the one you had in the high school cafeteria. Its breaded and shaped like a hockey puck, shaped dosent taste like one. The portions were a fair size and filled me up. The cost was average for a burger joint and came up in a good timely manner. Each time I ve been there its later at night so theres no one else in there except me, so if quiet time is what you want you will get it here. Its located next to a laundry mat so while waiting for laundry grab a bite, thats how i got introduced
