I'm someone who will drive to any corner of the city (and beyond) in the name of food and this was evident when I recently found myself in The Palisades, an area that is just about as far north as you can get in Edmonton (and no where remotely close to where I live). If the Edmonton Journal is going to name Paramount Fine Foods as the Best Lebanese Restaurant 2021, I'm gonna try it! I made the trek across town on a Sunday evening, looking forward to the authentically fresh flavours of the Middle East that Paramount boasts about so enthusiastically. Founded in 2007 by Mohamad Fakih, a Lebanese-Canadian entrepreneur, the first Paramount Fine Foods location opened in Mississauga, Ontario. The company now comprises of over 75 restaurants, becoming the fastest-growing Middle Eastern food chain in Canada. You'll find Edmonton's location in a rather large complex on the edge of town. (Not kidding, you can see the empty fields nearby.) The restaurant's modern exterior and tall stature includes a small patio space in the front before entering into the expansive interior. I was surprised by the spacious, airy dining area designed with taste in mind. Dark wood, tiled columns, and pops of rich colour set the stage for what feels like a higher-end dining experience. I noted some interesting features in the space which included a kids playground (I swear that this place isn't a defunct McDonald's) and a prayer room. Paramount was quite quiet on our visit and our server was gracious and attentive. The menu is a lot larger than I would have expected and I enjoyed flipping through its colourful pages; from starters, to salads, to wraps and mains. Plus platters that are perfect for large groups and even breakfast on the weekends! (I'm super intrigued about the breakfast and would love to try it!) As one does, I started my journey with a drink and zeroed in immediately on something called the "Paramount Special." It sounds like the thing to get! Topped with almonds, crushed pistachios, ashta cream and honey, I really wanted to try this epic beverage! However, our server regrettably informed me that they couldn't make it. It wasn't clear why but I assume that they didn't have all of the ingredients on hand? This was honestly the only low point of the entire meal. Instead, I settled for Strawberry Mango Juice (A blend of fresh mango and strawberries - $8.99). The drink actually took quite some time to arrive, meanwhile almost all of the rest of our food showed up before it did. However, it was worth the wait because this blend of fresh lush mangoes and ripe juicy strawberries was wonderful. You could tell that the beverage contained real fruit and I enjoyed the swirling kaleidoscope of bright colours. The rest of our order was delivered to the table lightening-quick! The feast began with the Mezza Plate (Choice of three: world-famous hummus, moutabbal, labneh, muhammara, or tabbouleh - $13.99) which seemed like a great option to try a variety of Paramount's dips. Served with the most pillowy freshly baked homemade pita bread, straight out of their wood-burning oven! I honestly could've set my head down on one of those pitas and had a nap. In choosing our dips we went for the Moutabbal, Muhammara, and Labneh. (We did not select the hummus because it was included in something else that we ordered and we opted out of the tabbouleh because we were already ordering a different salad.) Circling back to the pita bread, it arrived warm and fluffy. Tearing off pieces and using it to scoop up the various dips was a complete joy. The Moutabbal, made with fire roasted eggplant blended with tahini and garlic and topped off with fresh parsley, extra virgin olive oil, and fresh pomegranate seeds, felt familiar. Very similar to baba ganoush. However, ours was not topped with parsley or pomegranate seeds as described. Regardless, I loved the true fire-roasted flavour of the eggplant which came through in such a bold and beautiful way. Next was the Muhammara, made with fire roasted red peppers, crushed mixed walnuts, zesty onions, authentic spices, and herbs and topped off with extra virgin olive oil and parsley. (There was no parsley.) This was the dip that I knew the least about... And that I loved the most! The flavour was big and exciting and I loved the nuttiness! This one was an unexpected surprise and I would order it every time. Lastly, the Labneh, made with thick creamy labneh (a type of yogurt cheese) mixed with garlic, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, and topped off with their authentic zaatar seasoning, was also familiar. (Shout out to The Happy Camel, who's labneh I often purchase!) The version at Paramount was very enjoyable and I loved the creamy-cool texture. I swear that I could taste some mint in there as well. Some of the best salads come out of the Middle East - think tabbouleh and fattoush - and I had to order the latter to add some greens to the table. "Not so elevated Middle Eastern Cuisine" A terrific visit last November was memorable enough to have us crave Paramount Fine Foods while in Edmonton this evening. The big sign has the slogan " Elevated Middle Eastern Cuisine " thus raising the expectations we have had,, stemming from dozens and dozens of previous Paramount visits In Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver over the years... The decor is still very nice, four+ years or so after this Edmonton branch's opening; - modern, fast yet casual with table service. Tonight, the service was at times very slow and curt. We started with the lentil soup ($7.99) which came in a lovely ceramic bowl with deep fried pita chips. The soup was not liquidy; it had a very thick, "pudding-like" consistency and was super salty. It was definitely not fresh and appeared like it could have been reheated after being withdrawn from a cold, refrigerated bucket; not good. Next came the beef pie - which was nothing but a thin layer of ground beef on way too much dough ($6.99). Paramount is famous for its tabuli salad and of course we ordered it! (($10.99). Once it arrived to our table, we were shocked at the look of wilted parsley and the lack of dressing (it needed more tomatoes, lemon juice and olive oil to revive it); total dissapointment. "Elevated cuisine" means that you would assemble the salad as it is ordered for maximum freshness; ours tasted like it was sitting in a refrigerated tub for several days; no! No! No! The main course, the bbq beef platter ($22.99) had seven tiny yet very tender sirloin steak cubes; the remainder of the plate had a lot of filler rice and pickled beets, dill, onions and a 2 oz container of humus; very good yes - but the portion of meat was tiny for the price. The star of the meal was definitely the shareable dessert: The knnaffe Nablusieh ($9.99): It is a subtly sweet baked cheese dessert topped with baklava style shredded filo strips and pistachios; and then, it is drenched in syrupy rose water; this lived up to what Paramount is known for in Ontario - simply delicious!!!!!! With the abundance of similar eateries in Edmonton, Paramount Fine Foods didn't live up to its slogan as, during tonight's visit, there was nothing " elevated " about its Middle Eastern cuisine. Hopefully, they will get it together moving forward - so the quality of the food served at this branch can actually live up to their founding Ontario roots. I was recommended to check out this place from a friend and I had a pleasant experience. It wasn't too busy on a Saturday evening and we were seated promptly. I wanted to try an assortment of food so we ordered the Half Mixed Combo Platter($49.99). It was definitely enough for two people and we had leftovers afterwards. They served us two giant pita breads first that were fresh and warm. We had to be careful to not get full on it before more food came. The platter was delicious. Some meats were harder than others. The tahini and garlic sauce sauce were good compliments. In comparison to Turquaz Kebab House though, I think Turquaz's meat is seasoned slightly better. This restaurant is great for all events and occasions! The food was amazing. We had the muhammara, which is such a tasty and underrated dip. The tabbouleh was tasty but more tangy/acidic than usual. I highly recommend the cheese and zaatar manakeesh as well. We shared the mixed grill (not pictured). The meat was well seasoned and very tender. I'd recommend getting rice over fries. The hummus is tasty but very mild in flavour. The service was good at the beginning, however they never returned to refill waters or check-in. Came here for lunch with my coworkers. Lots of parking in the communal area. Place was completely empty 11:45AM until 12:45AM when 1 other couple showed up. Waitress was kind helping us identify difference in items and ingredients in others as menu is unclear if items come with rice, bread, etc. Menu needs pictures! For those of us unfamiliar with this cuisine. I love that they have a kids play-place! I wonder how extensive it is....you can just see it from our table. Love the free bread and hummus! Hummus was delicious and bread was still steaming when it was brought out! I got the Saj Tabliyeh Chicken wrap $14. And substituted fries for lentil soup for an extra 2.99. Soup was good, light flavor, no chunks of whole lentils. Wrap was good too - I wish there was more in it - more chicken, more pickled veg, more garlic sauce. Instead the garlic sauce is on the side. Portion was quite small for the price. Friend got the chicken shawarma wrap and it was Tiny. $12. She also paid extra for a salad instead of fries. Friend 2 got the Chicken Shawarma plate with rice $19. ( get to choose rice or bread). It is supposed to come with onion and pickles but she asked to exclude those. She was happy with her portion as she took half home for a second meal. For just diced chicken and rice I thought it was overpriced. 4 of us and we ordered the big platter. Very good and our guests who had not been there before and not familiar with middle eastern cuisine found it amazing. For the two of us that had been before we found the meal up to par from previous visits but found it curious the place wasn't filled like all our previous visits from years gone by. Our server Fatima gets top marks for being so kind and attentive. All in all a very good experience and we look forward to our next visit in a few more months as is our frequency there. 4 stars for me is excellent. So I finally was able to try this place after being recommended so many times by my barber Alex, first thing to talk about is the restaurant, the restaurant is so beautiful and I love the entrance fountain is very unique and fancy, I was there around 8 so it wasn't so busy, I first ordered the three type of hummus and the cauliflower bite things, they were ok not so amazing and I found it to be way to flavourful and couldn't really taste the other stuff, then I ordered the beef platter which was ok, I find it to have waaaay to much rice and barely any meat and some of the meat was very over cooked. The service was probably the most downside of things, the service was really bad it took forever to order our food and we never got our drinks topped off or asked if we needed anything else to drink. I drive by this restaurant all the time thinking I'm going to try this place one day... Sometimes it can be intimidating to go in a restaurant when you're not sure what to expect. On a lazy day I decided to try this place on skip the dishes. The bread was fresh, the falafel wrap tasted amazing, salads were yummy, the presentation for delivery was impressive. So on a weekend my sister and I wanted to dine in for supper. Ok ... It's very busy but we got a table with a fantastic server who was so kind to walk us through the menu. I ordered a saj chicken wrap with the side salad, my sister had the falafel wrap with fries, and we started with the mezza plate which had hummus, moutabbal, and tabbouleh. The food came out fresh and all tasted really good. We definitely made this restaurant a place to go every so often especially for lunch when it's less busy. I came here after my soccer game with my fiancée and my two sisters. The entire staff was very friendly, professional and inviting throughout our meal. My fiancée and I shared some tabbouleh and a mezze platter and it was delicious. My sisters had kebabs and the Yalla Special and they loved it! Delicious Lebanese cuisine! This restaurant is clean, modern, comfortable, and most importantly the food is amazing. We dropped in for lunch and ordered the fatoush salad, chicken & beef shawarma, and the super kafta wrap. I also ordered the Paramount special juice drink to go with all the delicious food. The complimentary pita was to die for...unlike any pita I've had in the past. Fresh out of the oven, fluffy and soft. Shawarma and kafta wrap we're also delicious. This is the only fine dining restaurant of Paramount in Alberta. They also have presence in City Centre and West Edmonton Mall. I must say that we got impressed with their service and food. Order: Appetizer: Freshly made Puffball Pita served complimentary with trio of dips: Hummus, Mutabbal (Eggplant Dip) and Tabbouleh (made of finely chopped parsley, tomatoes, mint, lemon juice etc.) was the best complementary dish i have ever tried. Manakeesh: Try the local lebanese style pizza. I tried Cheese with Zaatar to get the aromatic flavour of Zaatar. Main Course: Mixed Grilled : This is the best dish to order and get a little bit taste of everything in their main menu like Shish tawouk, Kafta and beef with garlic dip and hummus and fries on side. Somethingdifferent has changed for this restaurant over the past year and not for the better. Food does not have same taste- my favorite fatouche salad la is taste, chicken was over cooked and dry and to make it worse we had a catering service charge added to the bill. what is this supposed to do and why? We reserved a table and I would recommend it as there were a few other larger tables reserved that Saturday night for what looked like a special occasion as well. The tables were clean and spaced out enough that I didn't feel crowded or cramped. We waited for everyone to arrive before we looked at the menus but it would have been nice if they brought us water while waiting. When I went to order, there was just one cashier but another came to take our orders. I never know in these pay first, eat later establishments how much I should tip as we haven't had anyone come by the table much. I added tip but I would have added more based on the good service throughout our meal. After we got back to the table, they brought 3 baskets of 2 pitas in each. They were warm and large and we eat half of what they brought and the others went home with leftovers. I had the chicken shawarma and combo'ed it with a can of pop and Fattoush salad. I didn't want pickles in my wrap and they were able to customize it. My plate arrived pretty quick and the size of the salad was large. It was better that the wrap which I found was just ok. I wouldn't order it again as my friends had platters that looked delicious. They weren't able to finish their food and packed it up. I like the extensive menu and variety. We just had an incredible dinner here... we were being lazy and didn't feel like cooking tonight so Heather suggested Paramount Fine Foods as she had tried it on a work lunch a few weeks back. One of my favourite west end lunch spots was La Shish in Mayfield Common. Since it closed a while back I have been lacking a go to Lebanese spot. I have one now. They start by bringing you fresh, fluffy, warm tasty pita bread right out of the oven and keep it coming if you want more. We paired it with an order of hummus which was fresh made and delicious. For dinner we shared a Beef Shawarma Platter (with rice, salad, garlic sauce and pickled turnips and pickles) and a Tabbouleh Salad with Shish Tawouk (marinated chicken). Everything was literally perfect. Fresh, flavourful and cooked perfectly... hence the 5 Stars. Paramount will be a regular in our rotation... bonus it's so close to St. Albert! read more

I thought I'd write another review after having been here 6 times now. This place is just terrific and continues to impress every visit. I've tried different items on their menu and I've yet to have one dish that I did not enjoy. The food is always fresh including the homemade pitas. They are always very consistent in the quality of their dishes. The portions are pretty big and the price is reasonable. So far I've had their: lentil soup, mixed plate, chickwen shwarma, omellete, chicken wings, pita chips, baklava, hummus, and homemade bread. The service is impeccable and probably the best service I've received in my years of dining. The staff here always go out of their way to make sure that you have what you need and have been well taken care of. I came in once with a very sore throat and one of the girls had noticed that. She offered to make me this delicious hot drink for me on the house. Another time they had ran out of a dish that my mom wanted so the manager offered to give us an appy on the house. We always appreciate our experience here and are happy that it is close to where we live. The place is always clean and well looked after. They have a prayer room in the back which is cool and cultural. There is also a play place for little ones. All and all I am happy to have found this place. read more

Come for the kebabs, stay for the awesome garlic dip and jumbo inflated pita. Falafel is made fresh. Every kebab is great. Shrimp skewers not over cooked and a generous portion. Various flatbreads that we will have to try. Pizza for fussy non adventurous types- but you are missing out on great Middle Eastern food! I came here expecting a great dining experience from all it's highly rated reviews & wasn't disappointed. Plenty of parking, decor is new and modern. They have a Children's playground complete with shoe cubby (think small version of McDonald's playplace- child also needs to be accompanied by one who's 16 or older), there's even a prayer room near washrooms. High chairs are available, but I didn't see a change table in the washroom. Seating space is abundant, but can be a tight fit between tables. Ordering and payment is easy at the counter, baklava is available in ready to go packages, you can also buy a tub of the garlic shawarma sauce to go. Table service is impeccably fast and courteous. I had the chicken & beef shawarma with rice, and the people I came with ordered various salads, the poutine, wraps, hummus, falafel, and pizzas. Food is delicious and flavours are distinct. Portion sizes is fair for it's cost. Most of us were able to eat our meals without leftovers, but you can get boxes to take leftovers home. Multiple quality checks were given at our table. The bbq beef wrap was worth every penny and described as magical @$10.49. The meat was so tender, lean and not dry and could taste the grill! I got the falafal wrap and was one of the better ones I have eaten @ $7 but nothing too special. Portion sizes are small but the good prices make a decent value. Fresh breads. The hummous has the creamiest texture but was a little on the bland side. Container was small and only half full with two large soft upscale pita. Would not reorder hummous n pita for $7 when there is a place beside my house that has a container for $3.....but I had to try it. I Iive close by and have always drove by this place, finally I decided to give this place a try. Went on a Saturday night and the place was hopping and very busy. But only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. When we were seated we were given menus. Then when you're ready to order, you go up and give your table number and place your order. There was some initial confusion by us as there are 2 tills and naturally we went to the wrong one first. But all good and now we know for next time. My buddy and I ordered the beef and chicken shawarma with option for rice or fries. They first bring you the hot and fresh pita bread. I love how they arrived puffed up and tasted so good. The shawarma's beef and chicken were cooked nicely, the fries were nothing special, typical frozen variety (yet to find a place like this that make nice home cut type fries). Both me and my buddy loved the dish, fries withstanding. Service was top notch. We were constantly checked up on or had our water filled up despite how busy the place was. They even brought out a second order of the pita bread for us, so awesome! Just a heads up that it is a family restaurant so can be a very loud environment. Not sure what a typical night is but we had a table of screaming kids running around and did get annoying. I would still come back, even if just a take out. Me and my husband forgot to eat super and we were in need of some late nights eats. This was one of the only places open near by and boy are we lucky because turns out the food is pretty darn awesome. My husband ran into the owner of the establishment and he was super generous and ended up giving us our meal for FREE because they were closing. We both order the chicken shawarma wrap and holy Hanna was it awesome. It reminded me of the sandwiches you get from Barbar in Lebanon! (Famous sandwich chain in Beirut!) The garlic sauce they use is killer. Although you may need to warn others of your breath after. The inhouse made pita and hummus we had were also pretty spectacular. Can't wait to try their Fatoush and tabouli. (Traditional salads). We also snagged a piece of konafa. (A delicious cheesey dessert.) Highly recommended. The menu here is great! I loved the pictures, descriptions and selection available. Overall, most of the prices seemed pretty reasonable. It was hard to make a decision on what to eat. My sister and I decided to try a Tabliyeh Saj Chicken Schwarma platter. This was made of shredded pieces of grilled chicken wrapped in Saj bread with a side of garlic sauce. With the combo we had a generous portion of fries, some slices of pickles, slices of pickled beets and a couple slices of tomatoes. I liked how the wrap was a smaller in diameter than an average wrap. It was also cut into segments which made it much easier to share. The Saj bread was grilled so it has a nice little crunch when you bit into the wrap. I found this very easy to eat. The chicken was seasoned well. It was very yummy! The fries were crispy and hot. My only feedback would be that the portion of fries was a bit large in comparison with the size of wrap. I would say if they removed a 1/3 of the fries, the portion would be just right. Before we sat down at our table, my sister noticed that the lady in the next table had left a large portion of her fries. They're really good fries! It's unfortunate to waste them! We came on a lucky day because they had a special on hummus and they gave us some on the house! We were given a bowl of hummus with 2 hot and fresh steaming pitas! The hummus tasted great! Not too garlicky. The bread was hot and fresh. What a treat! To top this off, they also gave us four little sweet pieces of baklava!! We felt so special and happy from the way the staff welcomed us here. Our first time here was amazing!! The friendliness and hospitality of the staff made us feel so at ease right away. I was very impressed with the service and food at this location. My date and I were looking for lunch nearby and ended up here. We were seated right away and menus were provided. This restaurant is set up cafeteria style and right away reminded me of another Persian restaurant I had tried in North Vancouver. You go up to the counter to order and pay in advance. Staff then drop off the food at your table number. We ordered the Tabliyeh Saj Chicken Shawarma, beef with cheese manakeesh, hummus and paramount special. There was complimentary unlimited pita. The food was fantastic. The pita was fresh and pipping hot. There was steam coming out of the air pocket as I ripped into the pita. The hummus tasted fresh and had a creamy, garlicky flavour that I enjoyed with the pita. The manakeesh was really well priced for the portion size. The beef and cheese was a tasty combination. The chicken shawarma was also real good. The saj bread wrapped a decent amount of shredded chicken and pickles. It was different from the shawarmas I am used to eating. Lastly, the paramount special consisted of mango and strawberry juice mixed with fruit. They ran out of ashta cream and substituted with more fruit. The presentation was very nice. It was a tad on the sweeter side but was a good fruity drink. We had told the hostess it was our first visit to this restaurant. She dropped off some samples of baklavas on the house. That was a very nice gesture and I appreciated the staff working so well on their customer service. Overall, 4.5 star experience. I took off half a star because when my date was ordering the food, the cashier asked if he wanted hummus with the pita. He said yes, but the cashier failed to mention it was an extra $6.99. We noticed it after I looked at the bill. It was no big deal as I do like hummus. However, other people might be surprised at the price or thought it was complimentary as well. read more

Been coming to this location since it opened, takes about 30 minutes to get there, its worth the drive, even in -30 weather. Great selection of authentic Lebanese food, set in a nice clean good looking location. Nothing beats having the hummus with the steaming fresh oven baked pita as an appetizer or the lentil soup,then moving on to one of the mouth watering mains, be it a wrap, shwarma plate, grill platter or saj. Finally ending with one of their house desserts, too many to choose from. Wash all of it down with the Paramount Special, creamy blend of fruit juices with fresh fruits toppings. I am a big fan of Paramount. I have eaten there 3x this month of November. I have brought friends and family there each time and we have left incredibly satisfied. The garlic sauce is delicious and rich and an all time fave. I love it on the yella fries. I love dipping everything in it. The kafta beef was something I have not tried before and now enjoy very much. Ground beef with herbs sausage on top of rice with the garlic sauce is my favourite. Alsoooo I am a tabouleh salad lover and Paramount has gluten free option for same. Usually tabouleh has cracked wheat and they were able to accommodate when I asked. Love the freshness of the parsley, onion and tomatoes mixed in lemon juice. Overall very healthy and everything is cooked fresh. The service is top notch. The servers remember me since have eaten there at least once a week now. Which is nice. Warm, pleasant and welcoming. Also, fastttt service which is very impressive. The restaurant itself is a beautiful space. And the bathrooms are clean. It is also child friendly as there is play gym area. This is now my go to restaurant for delicious middle eastern food and I will definitely be recommending it to my family and friends. read more

So, if I would have know that this was a chain I may of skipped it. However, I was surprised. It seemed like the "Red Robins" of Middle Eastern food. It was good, and I imagine it is consistent if you go there often. I really liked that they had a prayer room for those who feel like they need to pray. I also like how they had a children's play place. I will probably take my kids there sometimes. We started with the mezze plate which consisted of a tabouli salad, hummus, and eggplant dip. Definitely the eggplant dip outshone the other two dishes but they were all very palatable. I also tried the Fattoush Salad which was tasty and plentiful, but lacked a bit of spice that I was used to. Still, really great for sharing. I had Arayess Kafta - Stuffed in a pita and char-grilled, served with mixed pickles, tomatoes, Lettuce and a side of hummus . This was delicious and I would order this again. The Kafta meat was nicely spiced and easy to partake in. My husband tried the Beef Shawarma Sandwich - Shredded pieces of beef grilled on a rotating spit with fresh parsley, onions, turnips, pickles, tomatoes and tahini sauce wrapped in a pita . He was happy with his choice. Our server was super friendly and explained the whole menu to us. Is it the best Lebanese food in Edmonton? No, probably not. It was our first experience of being in a Lebanese restaurant. We were three and ordered half of mixed plate only. The portion of the food was great. It came with lots of hot pittas! I've also been to the Toronto locations before and they are a staple on the halal food scene there. I was interested to see how Edmonton would compare (having had the Toronto airport location for dinner two days prior). The food was excellent. I actually thought the grilled meat, with the chicken in particular, was better than Toronto. All the usual appetizers tasted the same to me (which is a good thing). I didn't have the chance to have any of the wraps or Manakeesh but the mixed grill and appetizers were great, the bread was fresh and made in store, tasted just like Toronto. As for the restaurant itself, this was a huge highlight for me. I was blown away. It is very nicely done, well thought out. The decor is more modern and very nicely done. But the parts I really liked are the kids playground area (similar to your McDonald's playgrounds) so you don't have little ones running around and they have a small prayer room as well which is great to see in halal restaurants. Overall very impressed, service was good even on a busy weekend night for a large table. Will definitely be trekking it to the North side for this place again in the future. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Paramount Fine Foods! The ingredients and flavours were amazing, and the price couldn't be beat. The manager greeted me with a smile upon entry. The staff were very friendly, informative, and accommodating to all of my questions! They even provided me with recommendations when I couldn't decide between certain items. Being vegetarian, it is very important to me that restaurants are able to cater to my dietary restrictions. A large portion of items on the menu were vegetarian-friendly. My favourites were the okra and tabbouleh! They also have an extensive list of fresh juices that are made in-house - try the Jellab! As for aesthetics, a majority of Paramount's external walls are windows. This is great for letting in natural light (perfect for food pictures). Everything - the dining area, washrooms, kitchen - is kept spotless. Price-wise, you'd probably look at spending anywhere from $10 to $30 per person... depending on how hungry you are ;) read more

Always great food. Friendly staff. The only drawback is that you have to go the counter to order your food. I'm not sure why this works, I don't think the price of the food is reduced because of it - a slight inconvenience. Very clean in the dining room & restrooms - always.
