Gelato and chinotto- feels like italy!!
    Suzy G.

I have been waiting so long for real Gelato in Edinburgh, now thanks to Affogato I can cancel my holiday to Italy!! To be true Gelato it must be natural (both flavour and colouring), made on site and have that soft melting texture. There are some places that claim to make gelato but if you've been to Italy then you'll know that the real McCoy only exists here at Affogato - anything else is just ice cream. The flavors are inventive and seasonal and often offer options that are gluten free and vegan (the fruit sorbets). The fruit flavours always look so inviting and I love the thought that they are a bit healthier but I always go the full fat, full cream route, unless they have chocolate sorbet - that is phenomenal!! The salted caramel is my all time favourite and the coffee has over 20 shots of espresso!! The price is also amazing! In fact - for the service, quality and quantity that Affogato delivers they really should charge more. . Did I mention that they are super nice and dog friendly too! BONUS!!!

    Spinning wheel of gelato!

Thanks to yelpers high rating for this dessert place, my friend and I were craving ice cream so we landed at afogato for gelato. They have doggie treats near the cashier so dog owners, you can bring your pets and they get a sweet treat too! We tried as many flavors as we could because they were so unique and different, you had to try before you buy. I ended up getting their popular flavor, salty caramel. The other scoop was white chocolate passion fruit, fruity with a neutral taste from the chocolate. I can't quite explain it but the flavor itself was explosive. After we ordered our smalls, we realized we should have gotten the sit in sundae instead. That seems like a tastier and better deal. Anyways friendly staff who was able to explain or at least get an answer for us on what the flavors were. The only thing I wish they had was explanations of the flavors since we kept on asking or mispronouncing the gelato names.

    Gelato on a sunny weekend

After enjoying some sunshine at the Water of Leith we decided to stop by for an ice cream at Affogato last Saturday. I have been hearing good things about this place and, being the sweet tooth that I am, was keen to check it out. When you arrive you are faced with the tough decision of which flavour to choose from their gelato wheel of fortune. They had an excellent choice of flavours with seasonal treats, such as, 'hot cross bun', 'rabbit food' and 'easter egg' on offer. In the end I opted for the apple and elderflower sorbet and a white chocolate and raspberry flavour. The sorbet was lovely, bursting with fresh appley flavour (a bit like a lovely cloudy apple juice.) The white choc was less good, and tasted a bit funny- we both thought this but perhaps it just wasn't for us. The ice cream came on tasty waffle cones and it was nice that you could pick and choose your flavours and mix them up. Overall I was glad to have stopped by, for me it's not quite Mary'sMilkBar-good but I would definitely like to try out some of their other flavours.

This place was so good we came here every night while we were staying in Edinburgh. They have amazing gelato! Lots of fun flavors and they change everyday. Highly recommend this place for dessert!

Great gelato and Apple crumbcake. Staff was great. They had wifi and and nice cosy shop. I wish I could have had the waffle too... maybe next time I'm in edinburgh! I felt better that it was vegan also!

What a unicorn! I'm sitting at dinner and I look up an ice cream place only to find... 5 stars?!! 44 reviews!?! A good find indeed! It felt like someone took me into their home and made me a huge fresh ice cream. A dog bed on the ground with a water bowl definitely means a dog lives here and was on a walk. Extremely friendly people who run the place and I felt super welcome when I walked in. There is some decent art on the wall... and a couch! Pretty view out the back and just an overall cool and fun place.

Gooseberry + Vanilla Cake: I don't see gooseberry very often, so this piqued my interest. Loved how it had a nice fresh tartness, which was a good complement to the sweet and creamy frosting. The cake itself was good too, very fluffy. Jammy Macaroon: Another intriguing offering. I've had many macaroons, but never with jam inside. It made the whole thing a bit unstable, falling part easily, but the moisture and fruit added a nice new dimension. Pain Au Chocolat: Standard, but done quite well. Nice chocolate bits in the center and flaky all around. Vegan Cinnamon Bun: Decent for vegan. The real thing feels moister and fluffier though. Chocolate, Sea Salt & Rye Cookies: A fine cookie. Nice big chocolate veins. Nice cookie dough too.

Cute bakery/cafe located in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh!…read more It was just a few blocks from our hotel and was conveniently open for a quick breakfast before a day of sightseeing throughout the city. They have a selection of coffees and teas, pastries, and small bites available which seem to be baked fresh each morning. Bites include grilled cheese sandwiches, egg roll, granola bowl, bacon rolls, and they also have sausage rolls and sandwich/toasties available for lunch. I ordered the bacon roll and mocha and my husband got the sausage roll and tea. We opted to eat in as they had a few tables inside and no other patrons in the shop and so she quickly prepared our drinks and brought out our rolls which were both toasted nicely. The mocha was ok, not like the heavily chocolated version I'm used to back in the states, but I found this to be the common theme throughout our trip to Europe. The bacon roll was delish! Do note that their bacon is more like a ham around these parts and a bit more salty, but the bread balanced it out quite nicely. If you're really hungry, I'd recommend getting two. I also enjoyed my husband's sausage roll. Overall, it was a great way to start our day and the prices are pretty reasonable. We had ourselves a nice breakfast for less than 20£ and would recommend a stop here.

I adored the lime, poppyseed, and blueberry roulade! It was gone before the soup and toastie sandwich arrived. Crispy on the outside and so very soft and tasty on the inside. The cookie pie was impressive, but I honestly liked the roulade so much better. The soup today was broccoli and it was delicious! I had a ham and cheese sandwich lightly grilled in a panini press. Mom had a chorizo sandwich. The ladies at the bakery were lovely! Friendly happy folk always make food taste better! The bakery was quiet and not busy at 12:30 pm. It wasn't empty, just not busy. We got a table for 3! It was funny (and also a sad commentary on humans) that the still water available said "Please turn the tap off." Silly people. Thank you so much for a wonderful lunch! My very first time I came I tried a vegan cinnamon bun. It was warm, soft, and had that sweet caramelization from the sugar on the bun. It was soooo good. If you follow them on Instagram they even sometimes release what goods are in the shop since they switch it up! Tasty Buns definitely became a go to of mine and I think there is truly something for anyone with a sweet tooth!

Oh - and with the prices, too!! My club sandwich was so delicious with just the right amount of each of the ingredients to make each flavor blend together. It's a small location with a few tables but is really setup for takeaway business. Situated right across from the Meadows, this works well. I had come out without my glasses and unfortunately they didn't have a printed menu so I was at a bit of a loss for what was on offer. It was only after I ordered a frozen yoghurt that I discovered that they have a non-dairy option which would have been a better choice. As has been said previously, they have only two flavours at a time with the option to mix. When I was in the options were plain (which I think is a standard) and banana. I opted for the plain and splurged on an oreo topping. The yoghurt was very tasty without being overly sugary - big plus. The small serving was ENORMOUS as well as being pricey (£2.75, I think?). I would have much preferred a smaller portion with a smaller price. All in all it was ok but I probably won't find myself itching to return - my recommendation would be to advertise their flavour of the day on their website or Facebook page, and to create a smaller and more wallet friendly serving size.
