We stopped by Affinity to see if it might be a good retirement option for my mother‑in‑law. Since it's really designed for active adults and not for people who are getting close to needing assisted living, it wasn't the right fit for her. That said, my wife and I were actually pretty impressed. The amenities were great, the staff and residents were genuinely friendly, and the pricing seemed very reasonable. Plus, the location is super convenient -- it's an easy walk to a nearby shopping center. For someone active like us, it's definitely a place we might consider for ourselves in a couple of years. read more

This place is warm and inviting. We are moving my MIL after a tour. The staff is friendly as well as many residents we met on the tour. There is a great variety of amenities.From A pool to garden and a lovely library. Movie theater, craft room game room and a cards room and even a little tavern/pub This is a great place if you have active older parents that need activities and socialization that a neighborhood cannot provide alone. Hi,, it's RAiNiE WiLLiAMS I've lived here since it opened going on 7 years this is the best place I've lived in innnn ,such a long time. , I so like my apt !! the staff here really work hard and treats us and care about us in Word and deed. I'm a widow now and plan on living here the resT of my life. I feel safe here and it's nice also because both the mail. and garbage desposal are both in side so I don't have to go out side. I am close enough to walk to many stores, like safeway,Fred meyers ,Costco. right aid, Walgreens. Walmart Kohls ect. even my primary and other doctors. I highly recomend affinity to one looking for a apt that also has lotsa amenities like pool, hottub, work out room with tread mill, weight machine ect. family dining room. game room a pub which we have activities there with food and drinks ect. both affinity sponsored and resident sponsored activities. and also soom small guarden plots of which I'm so happy to have dirt I can work in. and I can grow quite lotta plants. and more. anyway over 55 people and it have a movie theater and one can make friends and both be friendly or stay mostly to yourself i or when needed. anyway if independent apt living is where you find the need I can't think of a better residence. oh,,,PLUS,,, TV. This is my 4th year at Affinity and I love it here. After reading some of the other reviews we have had our good, bad and best with the front office. We had had only one director that ruled it like her way or the highway but she is no longer here. We have had some residents who thought they could run the place but our current director put a stop to that. The door to our front office is always open to anyone to wants to chit chat, complain or whatever and they always listen. You GO team Katrina, your team is the best and what we needed. As I said earlier I love it here, the activities, secured underground parking, the friends I made, no cold calls at my front door. I plan on staying a long while. Oh, and with Covid-19 I feel very safe. Another review complained about the trash chute well, some residents don't bag their trash properly, too large to fit into the chute and not double bagging kitty litter this problem has been pointed out numerous times to all residents but some don't care and they continue to do as they please. The 10pm to 8am rule - if you ever vacationed at a condo resort those times are posted in each apt - if you wanted to wash, vac and make ungodly noise from 10pm to 8am you don't belong in apt life - rent a house. Most residents are sleeping at 10pm. read more

Up until we gave notice, after 7 years as tenants, we were moderately satisfied. There were the usual elevator out of service problems and trash chute not working issues. The facilities were nice but we didn't get to use all the amenities as we were still employed and many functions were during work hours. Management knew months in advance we were moving out of state to take care of a senior parent who was very ill. We did not renew as usual since we knew we would be paying month to month as of November 2023. We moved in March. Still, we were dinged by 2 days for not giving a full 30 day advance written notice of vacating. No allowance was given for the 2 days. We were charged for replacement of carpet even though we had been there 7 years and the carpets were due to be replaced anyway. We left the apartment clean and were also charged a cleaning fee. All in all, because of the way lease terminated and the unyielding deposit allowance given, we are dissatisfied with our experience there and would not recommend the apartment. Management did not work with us in any way when it came time to leave. read more

Went in a few months ago with my friend to visit one of her parents. I was also keeping an eye out for my mom who might be moving into a place like this one. The decor was colorful but staff seemed unhappy and stern. I heard the director is a short-tempered fuss pot, not someone who should be managing a senior living apartment I guess. My friend's mom says they provide some good activities for the residents although they allow certain residents to dominate the place and take the fun out of it all. The other reviews that say they charge random moving out fees are also true. Will keep looking at other options in the area. Overall: good-looking place but really bad energy all around. read more

My parents live here and will be leaving as soon as their lease is up. This place has been a nightmare. There are many rude residents (there are some nice) but the rude residents have made it unbearable. I've even witnessed my child throwing a plastic bag in the recycle and a resident grabbed it out of her hand and yelled at her because he thought there was something in the bag that wasn't recyclable. He was wrong but even if he wasn't, his behavior is inexcusable, and that's just one example. They tell you it's grandchildren friendly but it's not at all. Yes, I know it's 55+ but that doesn't mean you have to be 55+ to enter the building. There were promises made to my parents that have completely been disregarded and there's a level of disrespect and lack of care or concern for them. They even leave notes telling them to use less electricity. With the constant change of rules and policies I would think twice before moving here, especially if you have kids and grand children who you want to visit you. read more

I lived here for 18 months. The amenities are nice and the single bill including all utilities were a nice simplification and the indoor parking was great in both summer and winter. Overall, no major concerns, the staff is pleasant and address issues quickly. In the end, I would not consider it in the future, for a few reasons: 1: The rent is on the high side, even though it includes utilities and internet. As an aside, internet was spotty so don't depend on it for much. 2: Appliances are low budget. The washer, dishwasher, and refrigerator are the nosiest I've ever used. 3: Electrical outlets also seem low budget. I had to buy outlet extenders just to plug many of my items in; even though I only needed to use the single outlet. The large plug on some of the outlets were too small to insert a plug. Seems like poor quality control by the manufacturer. Other electrical issues include a plug that sparked and tripped the breaker on first use and a smoke detector that had charring/burn marks on the backside where it plugs into the ceiling connector. 4: The closing statement included some unreasonable charges, specifically, replacing the 4-year old carpet which had no signs of wear or stains. Considering the lease explicitly called out reasonable wear, I can't see how this was justifiable. Total cost to me: $530. 5: I moved out in the middle of the month and was notified that I would receive a credit if the apartment was leased before the end of the month. I'm fine with that yet the invoice shows a credit of $20 for overpaid rent. That's about the cost of 6 hours of rent. How does that work? 6: A charge for a light bulb, really? We had to replace at least 5 of them within a couple of months of moving in. To be fair, the other invoice items were reasonable (painting and cleaning) but the carpet line item means I lost my security deposit as well as now owing them money. read more

We have been residents at The Covington Affinity for almost 5 years now. We previously were homeowners for over 40 years and had not been apartment dwellers since our college years. We thought downsizing and adjusting to apartment life would be challenging, but it has been anything but. With any situation where you are living near others, there will always be challenges. You need to weigh the good with the bad in any situation. For us there has been several good things to say about Affinity that far outweigh any negative aspects. There has been staff turnover especially in the maintenance department slowing repairs, however, the current leadership has been outstanding. The staff and ownership really care about the residents, and have made every effort to address situations as they arise. The amenities are fantastic despite some challenges such as COVID and a subcontractor mishap resulting in water damage and amenity closures through no fault of Affinity. The Affinity building is a secure access including parking, mail, and package deliveries to your door. There have been a few security breaches over the years, and Affinity has immediately addressed them with additional off-hour security, police patrols, and other security measures to keep us safe. Rents are affordable and include everything except your phone bill. Another wonderful feature. Being centric to so many things (grocery, restaurants, medical, pharmacy, and multiple shopping alternatives) is a major draw. Affinity is a 55+ independent living community. Many residents are much older and expect more than what an independent living community is required to provide. There are a few that choose to ignore rules and guidelines, making it difficult for fellow residents and challenging for the management. Keep in mind, with apartment living there are always some drawbacks, but overall, Affinity is an amazing place to live. read more

I lived at Affinity at Covington for 18 months. I was enthusiastic at first but that waned. Overall, the apartments and amenities are nice. Pros: 1. Friendly staff 2. All inclusive rent - no additional bills for utilities etc. 3. For the most part, friendly and nice residents, who are willing to help if needed. 4. Nice amenities. Cons: 1. Lots of restrictions. Cannot run washer, dryer, garbage disposal, dishwasher, or vacuum after 10 p.m. or before 8 a.m. 2. Discriminate against those who work - the front office hours do not allow anyone who works normal hours to ever speak to anyone face to face as they are closed when you are home. If you want to speak face to face, you have to take off time from work as it is hit or miss if there will be anyone there on a Saturday. They could do staggered hours as there are usually 2 people in the office but are not willing to do so. You can e-mail but they do not always let you know if they receive your e-mail or respond. 3. Activities are scheduled for those who do not work. In 18 months of living there, there were only 3 Affinity scheduled activities that I can think of that allowed workers to attend. Almost all are scheduled midday or before 5 p.m during the week. Resident scheduled activities are different and are held at various times to allow everyone to participate. 4. Supposedly it is an ACTIVE 55+ community, yet we receive paperwork to complete that states it is a NON-PROFIT FACILITY FOR THE AGED. That is totally opposite of what they advertise. 5. Some Residents do not clean up after themselves in the common area leaving a mess for another resident to clean up or until one of the staff can do so. Sometimes this is because they are not physically able to do so other times because they cannot be bothered. If the mess happens on the weekend, it can sit there until the next working day if another resident isn't willing to clean up. 6. Constant break down of the North side elevator and Trash chute. The elevator has been out of commission for as long as 2 weeks before, usually lasts a day or two. It is a bit of a hike to the other elevator (depending on where the apartment is) if you are not very mobile. The trash chute has been out of commission for a few days before and it has overwhelmed the other trash chute. Not very sanitary. Again, it can be a bit of a hike carrying your trash to the other chute if you are not very mobile. Even with the cons, I do recommend this place to someone who is NOT working and who doesn't mind the restrictions imposed. read more

Absolutely love living here and plan to live here as long as we can. Most of the residents are friendly. Yes, there are some, who for some reason, decide to be unhappy. Might be because of pain. If they are unhappy, perhaps they can find other places to live. The staff is wonderful. Communication and amenities are very good. Between the residents and staff team there is always something to do. Covington has many places to shop, eat, and do that is within walking distance. Best thing we did was to move here. I visited a friend who is living in these apartments last evening. After that experience I would think long and hard before considering moving into Senior living and particularly the affinity apartments in Covington WA. First thing that happened while she was showing me around was the tenant in the elevator who complained to my friend about her grandchild that sometimes visits her. She was complaining about a toddler visiting someone that lived above her that had been 'pounding around' all day. My friend's grandchild wasn't there and also they live in a different location than the tenant was talking about. So aside from my friend being treated rudely, it also told me the apartments are not adequately insulated for sound. Also, there are nice 'community facilities' - but various tenants have expressly advised my friend that even when she is with them, that guests are not welcome in the common areas of the building. Aside from very rude tenants and inadequate soundproofing, the rainwater was coming in a door, which was a design flaw that has not been resolved almost 6 months after the building was completed. Since that will lead to mold in the carpet and walls, it won't take long for a very unhealthy situation to come about. read more
