Do. Your. Research. I got my rhinoplasty done 8-9 years ago by Dr. Shah and decided to update my review. I went in for a simple change, purely cosmetic (remove small bump). The results were horrific. They agreed to do a revision in office (awake), it didn't work and was painful. Then, they agreed to put me under again in order to better correct what needed fixed. 3 surgeries later, it still looked horrible and I'm now left with a butchered nose. Absolutely UNETHICAL . I had a 4:15 PM consultation and I called in at 3:15 several times and my calls were ignored. Then I decided to call from a different number and it was immediately answered. I hung up and try it again on my phone number and again it was ignored let's just say I tried this several times every time I called from my own number the girl working at the front desk decided not to answer. Then I finally called it again from a blocked number waahllaa. She picked up. Unbelievable! I told her it's funny because whenever I call on my own number you don't pick up but when I call from a different number you pick up. She arrogantly said she doesn't even pay attention to that. Even though there was an hour time difference from Virginia to Chicago the fact that she will be this immature and unprofessional showed me that I had no business giving them my money. It has been a nightmare dealing with Dr. Anil Shah's staff in getting my insurance claim filed. I don't know if it is incompetence or just a complete disregard for the patient, but they told me repeatedly that they had filed the claim, and it was a lie. Dr. Shah is contractually and legally required to file the claim as a BCBSIL provider. I tried filing the claim myself, but I required provider and procedure information that they also proved incapable of providing. Am I their first insurance claim? Unfortunately, I paid my bill in full on the day of service with the belief that I would soon be reimbursed by my insurance company, which was 148 days ago. I would highly recommend that if your procedure is covered by insurance you should not give them a dime! Insist that they file the claim first or you will lose your money. read more

Came in a year ago to get my hump removed and a natural outcome. Fast forward a year later. No words can describe the depression, aging, and anxiety this surgery has caused me. He literally SCOOPED the hump off as if with a spoon and closed my nose back up while narrowing my nostrils. Now there is a hump an inch beneath where my old one was. I'm left with very deep and visible scars between my eyebrows and where he opened my nose and nostrils, and my tip is dropping. I have nasolabial folds now and they are so pronounced and aged from nostril narrowing. Left me with a polly beak. Consultations waiting times are hours long and consultations and follow ups were literally seconds. He said he would fix it at no cost, yet I was charged $500 for a security deposit for revision surgery date, and $1100 for anesthesiologists. I thought I'd give him another chance since his instagram is filled with recent stories with successful outcomes. Had to reschedule surgery date since we didn't even make a consultation of what this surgery's outcome would be like, and I needed to know that we were going in the right direction. Consultation was maybe a 5 minutes longer than last one (10-15 minutes), now he edited the new 3D images into the same edits from the first consultation. I thought fine, I'll give it another chance, since it wouldn't cost supposedly. Big mistake. I was immediately charged $500 to secure the date, but allowed to pay a week later, and charged $1100 for anesthesiologists. Two weeks before surgery my gut began telling me to not do this, that it would ruin my face further. Going back in my mind to when the nurse that removed my cast had forgotten who I was, and out of all the e-mails I've sent about my male to female transition hadn't gotten to the Dr until our last consultation where I had to tell him myself. As if signs were all around, I spoke to my physician who told me they'd just opened their own transgender surgery clinic and that insurance would cover for facial feminization if I wanted to fix my nose with someone else all at once. I dwelled hardly because I'd already payed Dr Shah and really wanted to give him another chance. So I went online and looked at his reviews. So many faceless positive reviews and many relatable negative ones. I followed my gut. Tried to cancel my appointment a week before to avoid their same-day no show $100 fee and knowing I won't get my $500 security back but at least the $1100. No. Not only I didn't get my money back after a semi-botched surgery, I was told by his assistant that they weren't even going to charge me $700+ for cancelling and that it was in their policy. A policy I was never told about. I learned big time with this one. Do NOT settle for the pretty/showy instagram/social media profile. This doctor is only capable of very minor revisions but not transformations. I was lucky it didn't go worse, but was I really lucky overall? If you truly love your face to go to these lengths of surgery, find the best, and do NOT go here, and if you do, make your consultation and 'feel' and find out for yourself. I would never recommend Dr. Shah. He is arrogant, condescending, and worst of all: A TERRIBLE SURGEON. He was supposed to take 2mm off my wife's nose during a rhinoplasty. After getting the surgical records months later, we learned he took 9mm off, and did other things to her nose, which she did not want, like shaving down her nasal bones, breaking her nose , de-projecitng it and narrowing her tip. What she wanted done was very minimal. What she got was drastic and awful. Her end result looks nothing like the photoshopped images he provided and swore would be her final results. At times we have speculated he actually got her confused with another patient he was doing surgery on that day, because her results are so dramatically different from what they had talked about pre-surgery. When she went back to Dr. Shah and expressed concern, and cried tears of grief over what he had done to her-- he had no empathy. No apology. He "gas lighted" her, telling her she looked great. When she explained she looked nothing like what they had talked about, he stated she "looked better." We were shocked. She went and got 2nd and 3rd opinions from two of Chicago's more acclaimed surgeons who both stated Dr. Shah had resected far too much of her septum and raised her tip significantly more than his "photoshop" images suggested he would have done. My wife now has to get a revision rhinoplasty with rib cartilage grafting, to fix this butcher's overly aggressive work. Even the incision he made on her nose is just awful. She is having to use silicone makeup to cover up the scar. Overall: His bedside manner is awful. His arrogance is palpable as soon as you meet him. His office is chaos. It is run by 20 year old fangirls who all have the same nose he gave my wife. I suspect they work there for discounted botox, or some such fringe benefit. He is a BAD surgeon, who either did the wrong surgery on my wife, or is incapable of doing what he promises for lack of skill.... His reputation among other surgeons is terrible (we found this out too late). STAY AWAY. read more

As i continue with the healing process after my surgery i still need to give one star. They claim they gave you products to help with healing and appearance that they never did. Very uncoordinated. There are many talented doctors in Chicago, go to one who has better after care. It will save you a lot of anxiety. Plastic surgery isn't easy and when you aren't happy with the results it's nice to have some reassurance if what you're going through is normal. At this point i think it's too late to improve my results because it's clear some steps were missed the office claimed they did which upsets me even more. I visited Dr. Shah at Aesthetic Scalp in his immaculate offices in Water Tower Place and he performed a hair restoration procedure on me using the Artas 9x Robot. I couldn't be more pleased with him, his staff, the procedure and the way, generally, I was treated from consultation to completion. For those of you with short attention spans, please just allow me to sum up my review for you, here: He is amazing, compassionate, considerate, an expert, and if you are considering an Artas transplant LOOK NO FURTHER! For those of you wanting more information, grab a box of popcorn and buckle up. I started losing my hair when I was in College. It was pretty traumatic as a young man to look at the shower drain and see it filled with hair. I've been researching hair transplant procedures for years, now, and considered a strip procedure and also manual FUE. The downsides to both prevented me from moving forward with either. When the ARTAS 9x robot came around, I was even more excited to consider a FUE procedure but as I started studying the technique in detail I quickly learned that it was VERY important that I find an experienced Surgeon to perform the procedure as results, based on skill, do vary. While the ARTAS Robot and its software performs the extraction - there are a lot of intricacies and professional skill involved in using the robot and, as importantly, how the recipient area is created. I chose Dr. Shah's office because of his glowing reviews and his, and Dr. Chughtai's unrivaled focus on regenerative medicine. While I could have hypothetically chosen any doctor with the ARTAS Robot, choosing one that focused so heavily on the "recovery process" and boosting the current follicles I still have sealed the deal. The way I view it is that I really got two services for the price of one; a repaired hairline and serious attention given to reviving my other thinning hair. After all, what good would it do if I were to undergo a hair transplant and then suffered future hair loss!?! His office is conveniently located in downtown Chicago and the procedure was, rather, painless. In fact, the most uncomfortable part was them simply preparing me, with lidocaine injections, for the procedure and even that really only felt like a "pinch". I'm not a fan of shots, either - so take it from one "not tough" guy directly - the procedure does NOT hurt. Dr. Shah and Dr. Chughtai went out of their way during the procedure to make sure I was comfortable at all times and me informed of what they were doing, why they were doing it and what was going to happen next. It was evident throughout the entire process that Dr. Shah is an expert in his field and every second in his office confirmed I made the right decision. Additionally, his bedside manner and his staff are second to none. While I am very result driven, there is something to be said about utilizing the services of a doctor that is an expert AND a genuine "good person". HIs concern for me was evident and his charisma is contagious. After the procedure he and his staff checked on me repeatedly (but not in an annoying way) to make sure all of my questions were answered, that the healing process was progressing smoothly, and that my pain (which was, literally ZERO) was manageable. I'm healing very well and the results are beyond my expectations. In conclusion, my experience with Dr. Shah exceeded ALL of my expectations and I am so glad that I fully educated myself before deciding who I'd trust to perform the ARTAS procedure. I really liked this place for a few visits. I had Mary Kate as my esthetician to do some laser hair removal. That was going fine and I was very happy with her bedside manner. Then I made an appointment to get another laser hair removal session and to talk to Dr. Shah about laugh lines -- making it clear I wasn't sure I wanted anything done about them, but wanted to hear what Dr. Shah thought. I had seen him once before, when I started my laser treatments and he seemed legit. On the day of my most recent appointment, I waited an hour to see Dr. Shah after the laser treatment, which I was extremely patient about. When he finally showed up, he wasn't up for a conversation. He spent, at most, two minutes going over what he thought I needed then turned to the assisting clinician and told her I needed a particular kind of filler (which he had explained nothing about) in my nasolabial folds AND under my eyes. I had said nothing about my eyes and had never been insecure about them, until now. I had to insist I didn't want anything done to my eyes. He compared the recommendation to just trusting your hairstylist. THIS IS MY FACE. I'll miss Mary Kate, but I'm out. There was also no discussion of risks or how long the stuff lasts or anything like that. I was told they were behind schedule because the doctor was about to head out of town, but it's not okay to skimp on making sure your patient knows the gravity and utility of a procedure. UPDATE: So they read my follow up email and I got a phone call that was a total non-apology. This person said they were sorry my experience was negative but kept insisting Dr. Shah was only making a suggestion. I told them that when a physician gives an INSTRUCTION to another clinician and both of them straight up tell me that this IS what's going to be done, such that I have to interrupt it and say no over and over again, that's not a suggestion. I explained politely multiple times that my negative experience was not a "suggestion" and she insisted that any procedure that isn't carried out only amounts to a suggestion -- that only the procedure happening can make it anything other than a suggestion. That reflects no understanding of consent whatsoever, so I'm knocking off one of the two stars I initially gave. read more

Failed Septoplasty, suffered for 4 years , he made soo much unnecessary changes to my nose, i consulted with other drs and they were surprised when they heard it was Anil Shah who did this, they were like why would he even do this ?? so technically, he has some own invented way of modifying the septum from the back instead of fixing all of it, which makes no sense at all, be very aware and have him explain every single step he'll do to you, don't put urself in the same situation i am (had to do 3 septoplasties to get results) he just made sooo much modifications to my nose period, get a very detailed surgery steps , always ask WHY and HOW the dr is very nice but as i said, do NOT make urself a lab mouse for his whatever special way he invented. read more

Update. I have been in the care of Dr. Sameea as of several months ago for some lady rejuvenation and facial treatments. I couldn't be more excited to work with such a great provider. She truly listens to your needs and helps you meet your beauty goals. I am opening up with such a personalized treatment but feel more confident to express this to the public now that I received such exceptional care. Beauty is personal choice and in my mind takes work and maintenance. It's not easy being woman in this world with all the enhancing treatments that are available. I am a proud fan of AS and will continue to a proud patient. Dr. Shah is a true surgical artist when it comes to a rhinoplasty. I have wanted a rhinoplasty since I was in grade school. I've waited a few years to write this review, just to see if anything would get better like he insisted it would. But nope. 3 years later and I still have a completely botched nose. I have horrible alar retraction, a drooping tip, tip bossae and a hanging columella. Choosing this doctor is one of my biggest regrets. I had wanted a nose job for so long and when I met Dr. Shah, he acted so nice and seemed to genuinely understand what I wanted my nose to look like and told me it was achievable. I had only wanted my tip lifted and made a bit smaller, nothing too major. What I got was a pointy, uneven nose with a tip that droops even more now and nostrils that are so flared they just look deformed. At my follow-up appointments after surgery, I brought this up to him yet he kept insisting it was "just swelling" and injecting something (can't recall what the name was) into my nose that would bring the swelling down. Never worked. When I asked for a revision, his reply was literally, "well I'm happy with it and I think it looks good, so I think we should just leave it alone." I mean.. really? He's happy with it? It isn't his face or his money that was spent, it was mine. Now I have to spend so much more getting all this fixed. (oh and, it doesn't "look good" according to a couple of other surgeons who I've consulted with to do a revision. So it's not like it's only me noticing these extreme flaws.) Please think twice before choosing him. I wish I could go back and choose a different doctor, but lesson learned. Dr. Shah corrected this scar that was on my nose since I was a child. I told Dr. Shan what my concerns were and he assured me everything will be fine. I felt at ease and was extremely happy after the recovery period. He did exactly what I wanted as an outcome of the procedure. Recovery didn't take more than week for me. The waiting area is clean with a lot of entertainment while you wait. Another thing they offer is valet parking, which is great because parking in downtown Chicago costs around an arm & a leg, nice to know that's one less thing to stress. As both a healthcare executive (Director of an Anesthesia Group/Surgical Facility), and a former runway model (past life, sure was fun), the former allows me to be fortunate enough to have numerous contacts of the physician-kind at my disposal. The latter instills a sense of pride and obsession about my appearance, which I take very seriously, both from an aesthetic and a sartorial perspective. I'm lucky enough to be the product of good genetics. Staying on topic, I haven't wrinkled at my mature age of 37, my pores are the size they are supposed to be, and my skin tone is what many try to achieve through tanning salon memberships. A couple of weeks ago, I developed a mole/skin tag/something on the side of my chin. Not life-threatening or anything (I hope), I wanted to have it excised in order to stay looking hot. My extensive experience with doctors is this - they all understand the science of what is going on and they are all hyper-intelligent. What sets the good apart from the not-so-good is largely in part their ability to communicate effectively with their patients. Why, out of all my doctor contacts, did I choose Dr. Shah? For one, he and his staff remember that they are providing a service for you. From the moment that you walk through the door, the staff understands that as a patient, you have an expectation, and seeks to meet this at first contact. Dr. Shah, personally, is very calm and conversational, and genuinely seeks to understands your concerns and expectations from a visit. The excision went by so quickly, painlessly, and smoothly, that I almost forgot what I was there for. Surgeons are much-defined by how steadily and gracefully their hands move, and Dr. Shah wins there. Granted, what I had done was less extensive than most, but it is also my understanding that Dr. Shah's patient base also consists of many that are of much higher esteem than I am, so apparently, they feel the same way. I should add, that when looking for a facial plastic surgeon, that you should first look for one thing. Look for a doctor that is FIRST and Otolaryngologist (ENT or Ear, Nose, Throat) AND a facial plastic surgeon. Dr. Shah is Board Certified in both. You should know that there are a lot of surgeons out there that operate with lesser credentials, or that operate on specialties that are outside of their primary. Not to say that they can't be good, but if you're the type to vet, this is a good place to start. I hope that I will never need anything major done to my face, but should the time come, I know where I'm going. Oh, just as an aside....I read that someone here on Yelp was complaining about the parking charges. Well, yea, the office is in the Watertower Building, on Michigan Ave. Of course it's going to be somewhat expensive. There's also a cupcake store in the building, and I don't quite think that it's fair for me to judge the quality of the cupcakes by how much it costs me to park in the most expensive neighborhood in Chicago. :-) read more

If this is for a rhinoplasty, RUN. After nearly a decade long journey beginning with Dr. Shah, I have spent countless time, energy, money, and pain, attempting to reverse the physical and emotional damage done at his hands. I write this as I sit writhing in pain from a horrendous and exorbitantly expensive revision rhino, years after Dr. Shah legitimately butchered my nose multiple times. I cannot adequately express the anger and regret I feel for having chosen Dr. Shah in the first place, or stupidly agreeing to let him perform TWO revisions. Which he somehow managed to convince me were good ideas, and somehow managed to make my nose identical to the terrain of a Colorado mountain. The blatant lack of care, consideration, and concern when I was not a new patient who was paying a fee, was the most audacious and maddening part of this whole process. They (the staff is just as dismissive, arrogant, and careless as the doctor they work for) made it very clear I was, in no way, a priority. From pushing my last revision back countless times (both the weeks leading up to, the week of, and again while I was actively waiting hours for the procedure...I instinctually knew I should have left then), to not giving me enough local anesthetic or timing the pre-procedure medication, to actually forgetting to sign my freaking pain prescription (yes, he couldn't be bothered to remember to sign his own name on the script. And conveniently, it was a Friday afternoon, so I endured the entire weekend in pain), the whole thing was a disaster and a very transparent realization that there should be severe consequences for this lack of professionalism, empathy, and overt medical malpractice. Believe me, there are a dozen other things I could say and rant about, but candidly, I'm just trying to achieve one thing. If there's a single positive aspect that can transpire from my disastrous, near-decade long experience, it's that I can prevent someone else from making the biggest regret of their life. Do it right the first time. This is not a good surgeon. This is not a caring staff. This will be a mistake. Please, run. read more

Dr. Shah and his team went above and beyond for me: to working with my insurance company, scheduling a surgery center location and working out the surgery center fees. He also was able to work with me on a suitable payment plan within my budget. In addition, he is the only surgeon to personally follow up with me himself the night after my surgery just to make sure I was doing well. This is a follow up review to my August 2011 review. I continue to trust Dr. Shah's skills and continue to be treated with professionalism and kindness when I'm at his office, not just by him, but his staff. The healing process has still been extremely slow for me. Dr. Shah has used Kenalog injections in the tip of the nose to help resolve some of swelling which has worked, but my body is still being extremely reluctant to let go of the final bits of swelling. My breathing is incredible and is now close to 100% perfect. That is more than the doctor anticipated so I will take it. I'm thrilled with my breathing. I recently had the callouses rasped in his office which has been additional recovery time. I don't think I am a typical patient because I have seen general percentages for patients who need this done after rhinoplasty and it is something like less than 20%, so it is fairly uncommon. I think my body just enjoys being difficult and slow to heal. I will update again hopefully in a few months for a final review. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Shah's for many years and he is the absolute best plastic surgeon I have ever come across. After seeing multiple plastic surgeons in the Chicago area, I can confidently say Dr. Shah's skill set is unmatched. He is very precise, patient, and detail oriented. I didn't see any results. they had a promotion of 4 injections x $ 1800. don't throw your money away in that, it is assumed that Sculptra will remain in your body for no more than 2 years, it is better with no more than $ 2,500 you can have an excellent surgery in Mexico that will last for a lifetime. My experience with Dr. Shah exceeded all of my expectations!! I went in to see him to help consult on a bump on the bridge of my nose. He thoroughly went through my options for both an open and closed rhinoplasty approach. After answering all of my questions and discussion we decided that the closed approach was best for my case. I am only one-week into my recovery and am already so beyond happy with my experience and my nose! I made it very clear to Dr. Shah from our beginning conversations that I did not want to change my overall appearance with the surgery and that the bump was the only issue. He was thoughtful in his approach and was more than willing to continuously answer any questions I had throughout the process and recovery. I went to dr.Shah to get my nose fixed wow that's an under statement to say the least .First time I ever met him he talked good talk tells you what you wanna here like don't worry it could be fixed I will do this & that it's not problem not hard to fix it not to worry. Taking pics of my nose then showing me in a computer imagine what needed to be fix how it would look. My nose sure doesn't look anything like morph pics he showed me far from that. If anything my nose looks bumpy & inside looks like a chiwawa attacked it missing cartilage, bumps, lumps everywhere & its uneven the list can go on & on just horrible. He didn't do anything he told me he was gonna do he did the opposite. I don't think he has an artistic eye or the artistry of a good doctor & I honestly don't think he's talented Doctor. He doesn't no what he's doing he's like salesman that just tries to sell his work. There costumer service is all of the place no organization what's so ever .If I knew this what I was gonna end up with I would have just left my nose alone & lived with it. He's just not honest forthcoming Doctor of what he's really capable of doing .What really got to me was afterwards how he was acting very cold seemed like he didn't care that he messed up my nose like no care compassion nothing it was like NEXT see ya later. His good reviews are fake I don't believe for one second there real cuz of the results I ended up with he's fraud who scams ppl. Stay far away from this doctor don't believe those pics on this website or his reviews. It's his own team going around trolling websites & writing reviews for him. I really wanted to love Dr Shah. Before anything happened, he had incredible bedside manner and I felt totally safe in his hands. When I expressed displeasure with the final result, he basically told me that miscommunication happens and left me in the room with a very young-looking woman whose job description I was never made aware of and whose purpose I could not deduce based on her unexplained presence in the room. The customer service here was all over the place. This is a nice way of me saying, I don't know how any of you are gainfully employed because your customer service, and yes, I mean you, receptionist, is shitty. I do think that Shah is a skilled surgeon and a nice modern gentleman but the surgeon ego and the ridiculous parking, I can do without. And that's the thing: there are a lot of skilled surgeons in the United States and every single one of them will take my money. So we will edit this review because I am tired of getting questions about Dr Shah like I am going to be in the operating room with you. MEET HIM. The worst that will happen is that you will have a consultation with a surgeon and have to deal with his shitty receptionist and spend too much money on parking. Realize that I am EDITING MY REVIEW because I'm so tired of getting messages from brand new members who just joined four minutes ago asking for my social security number and before/after photos of what I didn't like about Dr Shah and also can you put your fingerprint right here so that we (ALLEGEDLY) can figure out who you are. They don't value and care their customers' time. They better know time is money by now. Even thought I had a consultant appointment I've waited him for two hours in a waiting lobby and two different rooms all alone. Then he came into the room with rushed and unfriendly attitude. The consult did not even last 10 minutes. I really really don't think I would go back and deal with the same problem over and over again. read more

I got my lips done by Anil and he explained to me the diffrent types of fillers and what my goals were. I saw him previously and wasnt completely thrilled with my results but he took me in and gave me the kissable pout i was looking for. He cares about his patients and giving them the results they want. I highly reccomend. read more

I had a closed rhinoplasty done by Dr. Shah. He did exactly what I wanted and my nose looks great. I'm extremely happy I went to see him. His fees were not very high compared to other surgeons. The staff are very sweet and helpful except for the one blond with the strange name that takes pictures. He also removed a mole on my chin and left it scarless. If you are considering a rhinopasty or any other facial procedure you should see Dr. Shah. I look 100% better yet his work was so subtle that no one noticed except for my parents. People just keep telling me that I look much prettier :) I have more confidence as a result of my procedure. My only regret was not doing it earlier in life. I will be seeing him for many more years to come ;) read more

it takes forever to get a call back - problem w/injection site; they will "eventually" call back but don't expect to hear from the doctor. Also that tip jar - Hello? Their injections are above average price and can't they pay the staff enough that they have to beg for tips like a Groupon spa? Very unprofessional that way. And they use medical assistants (no need for qualifications), not physician assistants (licensed). My partner and I got a good recommendation for this office but we will be looking elsewhere for the next treatments. read more
