I attended Aerialand for Aerial Silks. On the first lesson, I found Valentina, the tutor, to not be overly welcoming, and there didn't seem to be a lesson plan at all. After each exercise, Valentina umm-ed and ahh-ed to think of something else for us to do.
I was in a class with 3 other people who were Italian, the same as Valentina. They spent the whole lesson speaking Italian which I found to be quite rude, especially as everyone could speak English fluently.
However, I persevered as I really wanted to learn Silks. Unfortunately, my experience just got worse.
Valentina likes to focus on the better pupils, so the new pupils tend to be forgotten about. It is a beginner class, and some people attending were absolutely not beginners, but Valentina spent most of her time teaching these pupils tricks, rather than helping us to learn.
Valentina comes across as quite impatient if you couldn't do an exercise immediately, which is definitely not what you want from a teacher at a beginners class. She is also quick to tell you off if you stand around but doesn't seem to realise that is because we need her help.
Valentina encouraged me to pay for a block of six lessons, which I did (after paying single lessons for the first 3 or 4). I realised the lesson style was not going to change and that I was not learning anything in the class, so I cancelled my bookings and asked for a refund. Surprise surprise, that refund never came.
Very disappointing, and I will be looking for another Aerial Silks class (£60 out of pocket) to continue my learning. read more
