The owners, Tigist and Yonas are two of the kindest and most loving and caring people I have ever met. They have welcomed me into their family with open arms and have made my move and transition to AFM living very easy. They have been providing exceptionally healthy and delicious food, based on what I like and have been doing all they can to assist with my settling in process. They have a lovely home in a very quiet neighborhood yet very close to shopping and transportation. I am very pleased with the quality of their care, assuring my daily needs are met and assisting me as needed with my love of baking and cooking in their well-appointed kitchen. They and their three daughters live in the lower level and it has been very nice getting to know them. I brought my Christmas nutcrackers and Christmas tree decorations with me and we have had fun decorating the upstairs together. I highly recommend Abigail Adult Family Home to anyone looking for a quality home environment for their senior family member or for themselves. I was nervous about moving to an AFH but now know I made the right decision moving here!

This terrible management style results in a revolving door for all staff, and the residents and their families feel the impacts of that. The staff do often provide great care regardless because the job requires so much empathy, but the work is hard, pay is awful, constantly having staffing issues, and management just gets in the way and doesn't listen to staff or residents' feedback. They haven't been able to keep the same manager for years, and it's such a chaotic work environment. But there was no actual abuse or neglect that occurred as far as I'm aware. My biggest impression overall: They care more about making the facility look nice on tours for potential residents than they do about their actual, current residents or staff.

Too many high-needs residents, too high of staff turnover with low pay while the corporations that exploit our vulnerable elders laugh all the way to the bank. If I had known, I would've gone straight to an Adult Family Home over a corporate monster. The prices are better, stablized, and you don't magically get thousands extra pulled from your bank account without any meetings or signatures while your out-of-the-country, entrusting your mother's care to folks who will have her reeking of urine when you get back. No follow through on PT and OT. Covid within a week of checking-in. Plopped in a wheelchair to atrophy. The memory care director quitting within a few weeks. One outing in nearly a year's time. Athletes foot. Bruises. Open wounds gone unreported. Front desk reception are super nice. Select care staff are super sweet and knowledgeable. The rest are leaving mom to piss herself because there's a shift change or they're in a meeting. I threw out my back toileting her because for over 45 minutes, despite me pressing call buttons and screaming down the hall, no one would help. And corporate are just there for the money. Mom's first week had the cops there to break up a fight and haul a guy away. Subsequent weeks would have men wandering into her room, taking a piss in her toilet, stealing her things, and these same fellas dropping trau in the hallway to take a dump. Not the old fellas fault. The fault of the people who run this sinking ship. Find your loved one an Adult Family Home. Stop giving these greedy corporate b*stards what's left of your family savings.

Birthday parties, painting parties and bringing in musicians are just a few of the wonderful things she does. She pays attention to each individual's wants and needs. She paints with my mom, buys connect-the-dot activity books for my dad. Yes, we love this place so much, I moved my dad in too! The home is extremely clean and inviting. Each of my parent's rooms have french doors out to the beautiful backyard. The grounds are impeccable. They've created a park-like environment with walking paths, a fountain and a beautiful covered/heated gazebo for residents and their families. To me, this is above and beyond what most other facilities would provide. They are constantly making improvements to the property, inside and out. I highly recommend this home. They give your family member a soft place to land when they need it most.

They both state that they really enjoy the meals and the dining facilities, also the opportunities to socialize with others in a variety of dining options. I am unable to address the costs with any accuracy so I will say I only understand that fees are 'hefty'. But that includes all expenses. The family members support each them with frequent visits and supplement anything they need. At times, the staff is not 100% on the ball and require that we keep check on doctor's orders. It is important to do this since health issues are involved.  There are a variety of activities offered and many residents take advantage of the offerings and state that the choices are outstanding. These activities offer so much, friendships, socialization, enjoyment and much more. The programs are high quality and open to all. So far, the individual apartments are pretty basic. The windows are large and open onto lovely landscaping. Moving in required that each family member had to leave much behind and only bring in a few treasured items to fit into the small apartments. For our family members it is important that we 'supplement' their lives with our support. We do so with love and affection.

One year ago she transitioned to Callahan House after a short stay at Aegis of Shoreline. My mother suffered from dementia and was in decline for the full year. Last week she died while in hospice at Callahan House. While obviously a difficult situation my family is grateful to the staff at Callahan House for caring for her. When she moved in she was able to have her dog Beanie with her which was huge is helping her transition to the new environment. While eventually we had to keep Beanie at our home the staff always was welcoming when we would arrive with Beanie for visits. The activities were the centerpiece of her life at Callahan. Seeing my mother engaged with a group in exercise class, arts and crafts, or a live concert meant so much to me and her. The staff always made the effort to include her in the activities. The staff were wonderful in her care and it is a testament to the entire staff that after a stay in a hospital we were relieved to get her back to Callahan House in hospice care, in a familiar setting with a staff that truly knew and cared for her with Beanie visiting. While she did not pass her last days in her NH home she did pass "at home" in a familiar setting surrounded with family and staff members she knew and who knew her. The pandemic has put stresses on the medical system and assisted living in general. My mother's care for the last four years has been a bumpy ride at best. My thanks go out to the staff at Callahan House including concierges, nurses, activity directors, care directors, managers, med techs, general care, facilities and kitchen staff for the caring environment they created at Callahan House to support all the residents on this difficult phase of their lives.

My Aunt has been at Aegis Living Greenwood for three years. The experience has not been positive…read more The major problem is that Aegis is a for profit enterprise run by an owner who wants to maximize his profits. This is done at the expense of senior residents and their families who feel trapped. When our aunt entered the facility her monthly invoice was about $8,000. Due to inflation and a "care point" system imposed by Aegis, her current invoice is now over $14,000 per month. Yes, there has been a gradual decline in my aunt's physical and mental abilities, but nothing so acute as to warrant a 75% increase in the cost of her care within three years. Rather, it feels like Aegis has devised a way to legally extort ever greater sums out of its vulnerable senior residents and their families. Within the fine print of the contract she signed there is a "care points" system which is supposed to relate to additional services that may be provided. Aegis has the UNILATERAL power to impose these services and charges on the resident. Just this past month, Aegis Greenwood said it installed a new software to calculate care points, and by virtue of this new system even more points were added DESPITE no additional services being provided. Additionally, the Aegis assessments are incredibly vague in describing which specific services are being provided to justify the additional points being charged. When one contacts Aegis for an explanation of the charges, they deflect giving an answer and instead request a face to face meeting, so that they can have the element of surprise and create intimidation by bringing in several employees. They refuse to put anything in writing. I feel that Aegis has entrapped and is financially abusing my aunt and likely many other vulnerable seniors for whom changes, like moving their residence, is a very difficult matter. One report filed with the State says, "He did not recall signing anything recently regarding an increase in care points. He was paying 10-11K per month when his mother moved into assisted living and now pays between $18-19K per month [three years later]." Sounds familiar. Even with all of this going on, it is unlikely I will move my aunt as she has settled into the place and moving her would be a true hardship on her at this stage of her life. I am managing her finances so only I have to deal with the disgusting behavior of Aegis management.
