This became our first adventure of a week long vacation as we stopped here during the drive to our destination. We checked with several of the nearby tube rental businesses and decided on this one not only because of their location, but also because they did not charge us to use the life vests required for anyone under 13 years old. Other places either charged an additional fee or wanted a deposit. The staff was friendly and I even had a little sports banter with the owner, who had a God-awful Alabama hat on... Go GA Bulldogs!!! LOL But where they earned 5-stars was because of their honest dealings . We visited two days after heavy rain had swollen the river. While the overall volume was significantly down, it was still fairly swift. This caused a few traumatic moments as three adults had to fish three kids (6,7,8) out of the creek in fast moving current once they reached the take-out point near the bridge. This of course was not the rental companies fault, BUT it would have been useful to know the best places to exit the water. Some sort of map or signage along the creek would have been extremely helpful. Exiting the creek was so difficult by the bridge that safety for the youngest became an alarming issue and two rafts (and a pair of shoes) were lost in the battle between holding on to the kids or holding on to the rafts. At checkout the owners charged us about $55 per raft, but told us they would refund the money IF the rafts were found by the end of the day. They were indeed found and the owners not only texted us the same day, but had the money in our account before weeks end. I TRULY appreciate the honesty because we would have been none the wiser! [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] Aside from the difficulty exiting the creek, they also had a wipeout on a bottleneck rapid further upstream that really traumatized the youngest of our group. I didn't think the poor kid would ever go in water again, but luckily a few hugs and a slice of pizza brought him back from a dark place. So for families with kids single digit in age, I'd recommend putting your rafts in at Tom's Creek Falls when volume is up (and not the one near Indian Creek) which avoids the more challenging area for tubers. In retrospect I would have dropped my crew at the trailhead and driven back to the General Store and waited to help them exit there. It would have given them a longer ride in the river. Still, it did make for a lively story during the remainder of our vacation! It's amazing how little boys go from scared and crying in the moment to superhero's who called on their Aquaman powers when retelling the tale days later! LOL PS - The tube rentals are ALL DAY until closing (7pm). Cost was $8/tube with a dollar off coupon for checking-in on yelp. BE SAFE and enjoy! 2022 / 93

My experience is from the perspective of the one in charge of cooking and meals for our group. Our group had rented their kitchen space and because we don't live in the area we relied on them to adequately convey the facilities which were woefully misrepresented. BEFORE ARRIVAL: Called 1 week prior to confirm space and storage availability as I was bringing as much food with us as possible. I was informed that from my original call several months prior some refrigerators were no longer working and that they would double check. She further stated that there was a Boy Scout troop coming in and that we would need to share the kitchen space and fridge/freezers. ARRIVAL: We arrive from VA one hour prior to dinner needing to be prepared and served due to traffic and walked into this kitchen area to a disgusting kitchen and dining space. The sink was full of ants and completely clogged, half of the gas stovetop burners would not work and one oven was not functional. There was a layer of filth on everything in there. Our group went to cleaning immediately before we could even prepare food and notified the office of our problems. DURING: Room flooded Two replacement stoves One significant gas leak (where I lost some cognitive function temporarily) Prolific ants Deep freezer full of unlabeled random items that had barely any space available. ..and my home for a week #20 RV...the trailer was cleanish but dilapidated, rusty and had no functioning outdoor lighting. The view off the deck was nice. I will never return or recommend this place to anyone. Ever. Ever.

The creek is beautiful, and falling asleep to the sound of the water was a highlight. The staff was accommodating and allowed us to switch to an RV site so we could park next to our tent, which we appreciated. Looking back, I wish we'd asked more questions because the covered tent sites looked much more private and would have been a better fit for us. This is a great campground for families, groups, and anyone wanting to enjoy tubing. The bathhouses were clean, and the camp store had everything we could have needed. The tubing was a lot of fun, though the creek is shallow and rocky in places, so expect a few bumps along the way! If you're looking for a lively campground with plenty of activities, I highly recommend it. If your goal is total peace and seclusion, you may want to look at some of the quieter campgrounds nearby. Overall, we had a great stay and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the Bryson City area.

There is also a net setup for volleyball and a covered seating area with tables and a TV. Only thing you need to be aware of is phone service. It goes in and out... wifi is super iffy.

Showers are on the small side, but have plenty of hot water and do the job. The campground itself is just off the road, but you have to drive down an easy slope to get there, it's surrounded by trees, and traffic isn't bad at all, so road noise is practically nonexistent. A peaceful creek runs through the middle of the campground. We set our tent alongside it. Was great unzipping the door and seeing that first thing in the morning. Some sites have electric/water, others do not. Just let them know what you need when you book it. I think every site has a picnic table, which came in handy when it rained and we had to keep stuff off the ground. Will definitely return!

A great family campground…read more The tent sites are close together, but there are a few that are fairly secluded, and a couple that are really nice. The brook flows well. It is fairly loud, which the sound of rushing water is something I like in a tent site. The tent sites are not far from the bathrooms. Those bathrooms could use a bit of work though. This campground is close to the nantahala outdoor center. This is a great outfitter location with many things to do. It also doesn't take long to get to the narwhals river itself where you can put your own tubes or kayaks in (or even just play in the water). You could also make the trip to Fontana lake, Bryson city, or the Smokey mountains state park visitor center in a short time. Having spent a good amount of time in the northern parts of the state for gem mining I will say that the mines in the area are a little lacking in quality and amenities, but gem mining is fun anyway. There are a couple near by. Good luck with cell phone service out there though :-). If that is something you need you might want to look closer to town. There are also some cats laying around by the house. They stay by the house, so you should be fine if you don't like them. I like this campground. I wouldn't mind going back.
