    Upper pond and swim area
    Southern Revival M.

Camped here for two weeks and loved it. The campground has beautiful views, the sites are spacious, they have water, electric and even though there is no sewer it was easy to get honeywagon and go to dump station. They have two spring fed ponds and do not use any pesticides to take care of the surrounding area. One of the ponds is swimmable both can be fished in, you can eat fish or catch and release. The people that come here are all very nice and many have been coming for over 55 years. They have a playground and very safe large area to play. There was a steady stream of really nice kids and families for my little one to play with while we were there. We loved Dawn and Joe that run the campground and they were always around to chat and answer all sorts of questions. They are so knowledgeable about the mountain ecosystem in which they live and it shows in how well they care for area. This is such a beautiful place and we can't wait to come back!!! Keep up the good work guys I'm sure Betty is looking down on you with gratitude.

    Spacious campsite!

This was the best campground. It had everything we needed, spacious campsite, water at site, trash can, picnic table, fire pit, babbling river, clean and spacious restrooms, hot showers, laundry, camp store, kitties to pet, small lake to fish/swim, you name it!!! All campgrounds should take note of Timberlake as an example!

    Then entrance.

They have gorgeous spots right on the river and I could hear the river as I slept and it was so soothing!! The owners are wonderful people and really want campers to enjoy every aspect of their stay. They came out when we came in to help us back camper in our spot. It's very close to town like 5 min drive but felt out in country. Our spot had a picnic table and fire pit. They have a pretty good size bath house with vending machines and at as use washers and dryers which would be good for long stays! Shower stalls were individual bathrooms for privacy .. updated and very clean. We came before Halloween and it had decor for the holiday.. you could stay in camper, they had cabins, and tepees for unique stay. Most were damaged by storm but will be ready for following year. I thought that was really interesting.. i read reviews from previous years about wifi being terrible but we didn't have that issue. We didn't really spend all day at campground we came to see and spend time in the area so we were only using wifi at night and in morning with coffee. I would highly recommend this campground.. it was a great stay and I hated to leave.

As they become comfortable with your stay, they become increasingly hostile over seriously nothing. A simple question about Wi-Fi or anything will elicit screams and hollers and even hanging up on you. Joni even yelled at my DoorDash driver who was still parked in my driveway. She has owned this campground for 28 years as she will remind you time and time again. In my opinion it's time to retire. She is burnt out and the most unhappiest woman I have ever met. This is not exclusive to me, but all of my neighbors as well. They are terrified of her. I think I'm the only one to stand up to her outbursts and not take her sh*t. The more scenic sites are at a 45° angle so be prepared to back your RV in up at that angle. Please know that if there is any rain, you will be quite easily stuck at your site due to slick mud and clay and ancient, well embedded gravel that is no longer helpful for your RV and vehicle. My Expedition was stuck just pulling into my drive, if that tells you anything. There are so many other great RV sites such as Tuckaseegee (River & Rails), Great Smoky Mtns RV resort, and the Great Outdoors ($$$$). There is no reason to deal with the hostility here. Hope this helps.

We took our Scouts here to camp over the weekend and had a very bad experience with the staff…read more Between the Scouts and there families we rented 3 cabins and 1 camping trailer and 1 tent site. Before one of our couples arrived the office staff came and told us that somehow they had double booked their cabin, so they were going to put them in a trailer they did not rent out. Well when they got there and the staff was confronted they had lied to us . They had double booked a different site and took one of our cabins to fix their mistake. So they had give our cabin to 5 collage aged boys who were drinking. So we as parents did not feel safe letting our Scouts of 13 and younger stay in their tents with boys drinking and who knows what else beside them. So when the couple and our Scout assistants went to talk with the staff to see what we could do the staff was really ugly, rude and very nasty with them would not compromise in any way with them. We had already paid so they said we could do whatever we needed to do but we WAS NOT getting a refund for anything. So the scouts ended up sleeping with their families instead of getting to camp like they had planned. So if you are looking for a family oriented and safe place this is not the campground you want to stay in. This campground staff are liers , rude and very ugly attitudes and could not understand why we had a problem with them lieing and not refunding money for a site that we didnt get to use because of their mistake. This is a very poor attitued for a place that you are giving your money to and expect to be treated kindly.

When we asked the manager up front Cindy she said they extended their stay and she wasn't making them move. She said did you see one open we said yes lot 28 she said well take it. The bad thing is we paid for three separate lots we had three separate families. She put us all on the same lot. We then asked so where do we park she said oh just park at the lot across from you they are not there at the moment. When they did get back we had to park up front and walk. The first day and night we had no power because the place was over capacity. I emailed her about a refund and she tried to convince me to let it be and just have fun. This lady's very unprofessional in her emails she would get upset calling me sweetie and putting "lol". She even went as far as asking me was I a "millennium" she meant millennial. I was so shocked that this was how she handled her customers. Not to mention she said I was lying about the amount of people we had. It was like arguing with a kid. She kept giving excuses that wasn't logical. She finally told me not to contact her she was considering me the customer as harassing her. She was only contacted by a customer (me) through Fort Wilderness customer service contact email. She wants people to just accept the fact that she's taken advantage of them and not make things right. After reading all the reviews I realized this isn't the first time she has done this. I would never recommend this business. If I could I would give it a -5 star. The showers are dirty, the roads are narrow, and the staff seem miserable working here. The workers were nice people they do drink beer while working. She also had unlicensed people working on the electricity from what I was told.

My experience is from the perspective of the one in charge of cooking and meals for our group. Our group had rented their kitchen space and because we don't live in the area we relied on them to adequately convey the facilities which were woefully misrepresented. BEFORE ARRIVAL: Called 1 week prior to confirm space and storage availability as I was bringing as much food with us as possible. I was informed that from my original call several months prior some refrigerators were no longer working and that they would double check. She further stated that there was a Boy Scout troop coming in and that we would need to share the kitchen space and fridge/freezers. ARRIVAL: We arrive from VA one hour prior to dinner needing to be prepared and served due to traffic and walked into this kitchen area to a disgusting kitchen and dining space. The sink was full of ants and completely clogged, half of the gas stovetop burners would not work and one oven was not functional. There was a layer of filth on everything in there. Our group went to cleaning immediately before we could even prepare food and notified the office of our problems. DURING: Room flooded Two replacement stoves One significant gas leak (where I lost some cognitive function temporarily) Prolific ants Deep freezer full of unlabeled random items that had barely any space available. ..and my home for a week #20 RV...the trailer was cleanish but dilapidated, rusty and had no functioning outdoor lighting. The view off the deck was nice. I will never return or recommend this place to anyone. Ever. Ever.
