    The cabins to stay in.
    Jordon J.

This is my second time staying at Ela Campground. Each stay was a week long and enjoyable. I resided in the cabins, which run around $300 for 7 days. The cabins have; two bunk beds, mini fridge/freezer, microwave, counter, DirecTV, A/C, heater, and many power outlets. The mattresses are relatively comfortable and the cabins have a decent view of mountain ranges. They're not by the river so no need for worrying about Mosquitos, nor are they by walnut trees so no need to fear loud thumps as one nature-hating reviewer posted. While I agree about the whole "trailer park vibe" somewhat, it's not as bad as another reviewer made it out to be. It's quiet out here and is not very far from the Smoky Mountain Park which is fantastic since that's probably why you're here to begin with. There is Wi-Fi, albeit not very good. It can handle very basic Internet surfing. Hopefully that will be rectified soon. Luckily there is excellent LTE service with AT&T (probably with Verizon too, don't know. Don't have them.) to help fix that darned slow Wi-Fi issue. Though honestly, epic Wi-Fi shouldn't be much of a concern considering you've got epic adventures & views to partake within the Smokies. All in all, very nice place with very nice cabins of which are maintained and kept up. You'll enjoy your stay here in the cabins. Lastly, the restroom/shower facilities are very close to the cabins and have been clean/operational both visits. Hot, consist water. Clean toilets. Always have toilet paper. And most importantly, the toilet paper is 2-ply, so no sandpaper butt napkins! (Whew!)

They have gorgeous spots right on the river and I could hear the river as I slept and it was so soothing!! The owners are wonderful people and really want campers to enjoy every aspect of their stay. They came out when we came in to help us back camper in our spot. It's very close to town like 5 min drive but felt out in country. Our spot had a picnic table and fire pit. They have a pretty good size bath house with vending machines and at as use washers and dryers which would be good for long stays! Shower stalls were individual bathrooms for privacy .. updated and very clean. We came before Halloween and it had decor for the holiday.. you could stay in camper, they had cabins, and tepees for unique stay. Most were damaged by storm but will be ready for following year. I thought that was really interesting.. i read reviews from previous years about wifi being terrible but we didn't have that issue. We didn't really spend all day at campground we came to see and spend time in the area so we were only using wifi at night and in morning with coffee. I would highly recommend this campground.. it was a great stay and I hated to leave.

Well stocked store on site but oh so dirty. Loads of antiques on upper shelves that are loaded with dust probably 20 years worth of dust. The office area is nasty, food on the floor from a rude 3 year old whose parents work there. How they find anything is beyond me as it is so cluttered with papers, food and toys..the customer service is beyond non acceptable! They want your money but don't care about you! Now we heard about the East side opening so we took a ride over. Sites on the creek are just ok. They do have shade.. however if you get a site in the center your camper will bake in the sun. AND THE LOTS ! You will loose your camper if your neighbor builds a campfire. I mean it!! Patches of grass only with a huge picnic table. One man alone there putting tables together. He looked beat!! Please don't allow them to put you on the East side!! You need to use your vehicle to get up to the store for fire wood or supplies or tubes. There is no other way to get there. I'm not sure if you have to go to the West side to check in then haul your camper a mile or so to the East side, but there is NO place on the East side to check in..not a good set up at all.

When we asked the manager up front Cindy she said they extended their stay and she wasn't making them move. She said did you see one open we said yes lot 28 she said well take it. The bad thing is we paid for three separate lots we had three separate families. She put us all on the same lot. We then asked so where do we park she said oh just park at the lot across from you they are not there at the moment. When they did get back we had to park up front and walk. The first day and night we had no power because the place was over capacity. I emailed her about a refund and she tried to convince me to let it be and just have fun. This lady's very unprofessional in her emails she would get upset calling me sweetie and putting "lol". She even went as far as asking me was I a "millennium" she meant millennial. I was so shocked that this was how she handled her customers. Not to mention she said I was lying about the amount of people we had. It was like arguing with a kid. She kept giving excuses that wasn't logical. She finally told me not to contact her she was considering me the customer as harassing her. She was only contacted by a customer (me) through Fort Wilderness customer service contact email. She wants people to just accept the fact that she's taken advantage of them and not make things right. After reading all the reviews I realized this isn't the first time she has done this. I would never recommend this business. If I could I would give it a -5 star. The showers are dirty, the roads are narrow, and the staff seem miserable working here. The workers were nice people they do drink beer while working. She also had unlicensed people working on the electricity from what I was told.

This campground / RV park is one of the few places that allows people from OTHER campgrounds to use their showers (for a small fee, of course). You just drive into the parking lot, find the trailer near the entrance with the small golf cart next to it, knock on the door, and the man who runs the campground will come out. Each shower is $5 but you'll feel like a million bucks afterwards. Try to bring exact change since he may not have change. If the office trailer with the golf cart isn't obvious, there should be a paper posted on the door of the little building closest to the road directing you where to go. Though the interior was very dimly lit, the showers in the women's bathhouse seemed clean. The toilets were not clean, though--I advise not using them. There are also electrical outlets around the sink where you can charge your stuff. No one else entered the bathhouse while I was in it. Bear Hunter Campground is pretty close to the Bryson City downtown (though you'll definitely need a car). Hike all day in the Smokey Mountains, take a shower here, and go back to your campground to rest at night.
