This is one of the nicest campgrounds we have ever stayed at on our travels. Nestled in a cozy secluded valley, not far off of the highway, you feel like you are secluded yet close to all of the area fun things to do. The owners and staff are super nice and friendly. The grounds are nicely kept up. The showers and bathrooms are sparkling clean and up to date. This is our go to place to stay when we are in the area.

Beautiful. Calming. Peaceful. Relaxing. Well priced(cheaper than the other campgrounds in the area). Worth it! My boyfriend & I rented a spot here for two nights during our vacation. It's tucked away on a mountainside, with a creek flowing right through the center of the campground! There's RV & tent locations, with even the tent spots having water & electricity. There's a large heated bathhouse, with both the men's & the women's having 4 restroom & shower stalls respectively. A laundry room 3 or so washer & dryers. This place was very clean. The owner & staff were friendly & accommodating. We were both impressed enough with this place that we couldn't help but leave a positive review.

What a beautiful campground! Florida camping is SO DIFFERENT from North Carolina camping. Camping the end of August, it only got a bit hot between 1-4ish. So I sat in front of my fan. A creek running through the tent camping area, what a lovely way to fall asleep at night. Tent site 10 was ours - I do believe they combined 9 and 10 into one big one. A large tree provided awesome shade. I personally think this is the best tent site. If you have a walking baby, aka 11 months - 23ish months, you'll either want a baby carrier, a pack and play or one of those large baby pens. The only stressful bit was making sure our 14 month old didn't tumble down into the creek - it's a pretty steep drop for a kid. If it looks like a rainy weekend for your visit, I suggest *not* cancelling. It was supposed to rain all weekend for our trip but it really only rained for an hour or so. It was actually a nice break to lay inside the tent and listen to the rain. Plus, we were literally the only crazy tent campers who kept our reservation. There was no one else around us - except an RV couple who had been there a month. The owner was really nice and chatty.... they have a little free lollipop area inside the office for the kiddos. Oh, most importantly... fantastically clean and amazing bathrooms!! We didn't stay long enough to take showers, but if they're like the little toilet I'm sure they are awesome as well.

    Rotten board on campsite deck

Very clean facilities and a high standard of keeping the grounds tidy during leaf season. I did have an unpleasant interaction with management though. On our tent site, there was a rotten board on the deck that appeared to be intact. That was until my wife (8 months pregnant) stepped on it and almost got seriously hurt when the board collapsed through. When we informed management about the incident, they offered to fix the board if we were willing to leave for a while. Not wanting to be displaced on our trip, we chose to navigate around the rotten board the rest of the trip. When I asked about maybe a small comp from management because of what happened, they refused because "no one had actually gotten hurt". If it were my business, I would've paid for someone's meal at a restaurant nearby so they could go out while the board gets fixed or offered a credit for the next stay.

    Broken bedroom blinds

My three stars are for the beautiful grounds but definitely lost 2 stars for the Villa (cabin) we paid quite nicely for. We were there with two others that had fifth wheels. We do not, so we rented the villa that shares the porch with the front office. Upon opening the door I was taken aback. The couch was a disgusting dirty floral pattern from 1980. The blinds were all missing slats and no curtains in the bedroom to block the light from the broken blinds. There was the oldest window AC that was lined with dirty towels to keep the dripping water at bay. A fan fan in the bedroom would have been helpful. With that being said, we were instructed to take out our trash, wash and out away dishes. Finally, as for safety, the windows downstairs has no latch to keep it locked and door adjoining office has no deadbolt on inside. Definitely need to put some money back into this place.

Moonshine Creek campground in Balsam NC is absolutely the most beautiful privately owned campground we have ever stayed in. If you are in the Asheville area and want a beautiful place to camp definitely stay here. They have full hook ups cabims and tent sites. I am not sure about size restrictions. My rig is a 38' Momentum.

My 3 star rating is strictly for the service, not the campground itself. The campground is one of the more beautiful campgrounds we have ever been to. Very well maintained. The creek that runs through it, gives it all the appeal one could need. It is very quiet and easy to want to stay forever. The on-site managers are super friendly and helpful. Firewood can be purchased at the office, along with ice. No fishing is allowed in the creek, to protect the banks and fauna, very understandable. Sites could be a bit tricky to back into, if your not good at backing up. Cell reception is fine, not great but with ATT we had 2 bars most of the time. They say they have WiFi, which I didn't see and cable, which didn't reach to my camper (bring a extension cable). The only negative was the last day. My parents were suppose to join us on the same day of arrival, but they fell sick in Georgia, so they arrived 2 days later. That would only have left a 1/2 day to spend with them. So we decided to spend an extra day. I contacted the office and they said my site was already reserved and that they could move me to another another site, which I accepted. An hour before the office closed, they called and said the site I was being moved to was no longer available because the people there decided to also stay another day. They will have other options for me. The next day I went to the office and the lady there( who we haven't dealt with before and turned out to be the owner's wife). Her demeanor and attitude is basically why we decided to just go ahead and leave. Check out was at 11am, I asked if I could park my camper somewhere til 12. Answer was no. Asked if I could park in an open site til 12, answer was no. Asked why I had to move, when the other campers, who decided to stay another day, like me, got to stay. She couldn't get the story straight , it was either the people coming in were already camping there and just moving to another site or they had already reserved it. Why the other campers got to stay, since I technically "reserved" their site for the next day, was never answered. The end result was, they couldn't accommodate my needs unless I paid. This was going to be the last day of our family reunion , we drive from Louisiana, my sister drove from Pennsylvania, my cousin flew up from Florida, my parents drove up from Florida(they camped next to us. My uncle and aunt lived in town. So I paid 10.00 extra to be able to stay for an extra hour. She also gave me the option to park in a empty site for a whole day rate(so kind of her). Her demeanor and attitude was a turn off and I was glad to leave early. She made it a point to constantly tell me to be out by noon. So we rushed to family breakfast, rushed through our meal, rushed our departure by saying goodbye quickly to everyone. Thankyou ,owner's wife, for being so accommodating. As beautiful as your campground was, we probably won't be back.

First off, the atmosphere is nice. Shady. Cool. Sound of the creek. That's about where the warm and fuzzies stop. We stayed a week here. From the first moment we pulled in, the owner/manager was rude. He acted as if he was bothered by us checking in. From check in through set up he was like that. We paid the extra $3/day for cable and it wouldn't work. My husband told him about it the day we got there and he again acted like it was a bother. Wasn't fixed for 2 days and those days were not refunded. (Yes I know it was $6 but still, when you pay for something you expect it to work.) The water hook-up was leaking and the owner said it must have been from a previous camper. He didn't bother addressing it from there or moving us. He also said our kids couldn't get in the creek where we camped. The next morning there were other kids in the creek beside our rig and nothing was said. 3 nights in and our power went out. There was no individual breaker box like most campgrounds. This was just an outside plug next to the leaking water hookup. It melted our plug and arched and melted the breaker in the box across the creek. We called the owner and was scolded for running our AC and electric hot water. He happened to mention that another camper at the campground had the exact same thing to happen earlier that morning. Coincidence? I asked if maybe the leaking water might have done something. Was quickly dismissed. I honesty believe our plug was ruined due to the campgrounds electrical equipment. Their hookup equipment needs updating. Even the sewage hookup was uphill from our site. Last time I checked, poop doesn't flow uphill. Even our neighboring camper made mention of that when we were packing up. We walked through the campground once and wreaked of sewage. Oh and as a previous poster said, there were evidence of ticks. Tick nests everywhere. The playground was dirty and grown up. There was a large dead limb hanging on the tree over the bridge going to the tent campers site. On the map, it shows a waterfall at the back end of the camp. Very misleading. The "waterfall" was nothing more than a drainage runoff pipe. On the website, it said limited wifi...there was NO wifi available at all. Owner said there was at the office but anytime you were at the office or store there was no wifi to pop up. The shade has to be the only appeal to this campground. We actually drove around and toured other campgrounds in the area. We were welcomed with smiles and provided with information and they actually offered to feed us. Maybe Moonshine could learn about hospitality from the others. We will not stay there again unless it changes owners.

They came out when we came in to help us back camper in our spot. It's very close to town like 5 min drive but felt out in country. Our spot had a picnic table and fire pit. They have a pretty good size bath house with vending machines and at as use washers and dryers which would be good for long stays! We came before Halloween and it had decor for the holiday.. you could stay in camper, they had cabins, and tepees for unique stay. Most were damaged by storm but will be ready for following year. I thought that was really interesting.. i read reviews from previous years about wifi being terrible but we didn't have that issue. We didn't really spend all day at campground we came to see and spend time in the area so we were only using wifi at night and in morning with coffee. I would highly recommend this campground.. it was a great stay and I hated to leave.
