My daughter came home every day excited to tell me what she did at camp. The activities she did over the course of three weeks included laser mazes, stick fighting, snowboarding, learning actual spy skills (tailing, surveillance, dead drops), and going on simulated spy missions. The camp is super communicative: you get email updates every day with pictures and summaries of what the campers did that day. She says she definitely wants to go back next year. My daughter is open to trying new things, enjoys problem solving activities, and has a high frustration tolerance. I could see this camp being less appealing for kids who are more cautious or who get frustrated easily.

All mask and COVID protocols in effect was comforting. Mix of outdoor and indoor activities, great low ratio of student vs instructors. They rotate each week Thurs/Fri is the snowboard or skiing so was happy to sign up for 2 weeks. Great intro to winter sports for son with zero prior experience, learning without the discomfort of cold and fear of falling. We plan on getting additional endless slope time slots before Tahoe. The kids learn to put on the boots and ski by themselves and proper sizing. Free Parking tight but always available at 9am and 4pm within a block. Highly recommend for elementary school aged, or older CIT experience. Most of the camp is spy activities and outdoor playground games. Don't expect a proficient skier after, but a very happy camper!

As someone who works in the Jewish community, I had frequently recommended Tawonga to others, believing in the strength of its programming and community spirit. Unfortunately, our experience left us feeling deeply disappointed. Our child was registered for a summer session but was unable to attend due to the sudden passing of a close family member just days before camp began. As the family member's funeral was held out of state and organized by us, attending camp was simply not possible. We informed camp staff in advance, sharing both the situation and the fact that we are a financial aid family, and asked if any credit or accommodation could be made for a future session. We received single-sentence emails with zero condolences stating that the policy was no refund (which we didn't request) or credit. It was such a strange response we wondered if it was AI. Despite multiple follow-ups from us during a time of grief, we were told nothing could be done because the deadline had passed. At long last, the only acknowledgment of our loss was a brief line hoping the funeral preparations were going well--no further condolences or recognition of our child's disappointment were offered. By contrast, another camp we had registered with for a different child responded with immediate compassion--offering a partial refund without being asked, sending condolences, and even making a small kind gesture when our child was finally able to attend for a shortened period. As a family raising Jewish children and deeply involved in the Jewish community, this lack of empathy from a camp we had held in such high regard was especially painful. We weren't asking for a refund, just understanding and flexibility in a time of extraordinary personal loss. We struggled to name the Jewish value being demonstrated by Tawonga and still do. We will never return to Tawonga in the future--both due to financial constraints and a lack of confidence that our children's emotional needs would be supported in difficult times. The Jewish sleepaway camp we've attended for the past several years has actually lived and walked the values they advertise, and we couldn't be happier. We share this with the hope that it encourages a deeper reflection on how grief, compassion, and community care are handled. Neg #1: My child took Robotics Camp. He said that the materials are so cheap that the things they…read moremake don't work well, and it was frustrating. Neg #2: Camp is supposed to be from 9-3. He said that they started around 9:10, waiting for the children to come. They line up at 2:45 to walk to wait for parents. The first day he called me, and I said it wasn't 3:00, but they had them waiting in 90 degrees weather for parents. Then, I get there, and they make me go back to my car, while my son waits, to get my identification. He's 13, he may know who his mom is. On the 4th day, I find out that he could have checked himself out each day. NOBODY TOLD US! So, if you start at 9:10, end at 2:45, and have an hour of nothing (SEL) time...just have a shorter day filled with, um, camp stuff. Neg #3: Children have to give their pronouns! I wrote the camp, but they said they don't have to...NOT TRUE...they had to. Stop the insanity. They have this crap thrown down their throats in school. Let camp, just be camp! They have an hour of SEL. Mind you the counselors are junior college kids, not trained to support issues that may come up in SEL. Also, it is ROBOTICS! Neg #4: They called them kiddos...okay, but really?!

I looked into many different summer camps for my son during that time and came across Camp Edmo. I read their website and thought it was a good idea to put my son in their summer camp (for 3 weeks). My son was 5 years old and had completed Kindergarten during that time. Make a long story short, my son completely hated Camp Edmo. He begged me not to go every morning. I kept asking him why, he said it was boring, the counselors didn't help him build anything during class, and he spent a lot of the time just sitting there. Again, my son was 5 year old and shy at the time. A counselor should of helped him build something (since it was a stem, engineering camp for small kids). Instead my son, everyday, would bring a bag containing engineering supplies untouched. Camp Edmo costs and arm and a leg, counselors should have just done their jobs and help the kids build. Oh and if you send your kid to Camp Edmo, know they will get super dirty. I think they have them sit on the street or dirt, cause my kid's pants were always dirty. This year, I'm glad my son's school will be offering summer camp. Thank goodness for that, because Camp Edmo is one camp I will not be sending my kid to again.

They have a great…read morelocation in Hayes Valley and immediately when I walked it there were such good vibes with holiday music playing and paintings set up everywhere. They offered us wine and charcuterie and I especially loved how intimate the class was with only 5 people plus an instructor. Our instructor Emily was such a blast and did such a great job explaining everything to us and making our paintings come to life. Overall we had such a great experience and I definitely want to come back with my friends!

My kids LOVE Ucamps. The camp motto is expectance and inclusion. EVERYONE can express who they are…read morewith no judgement. The theme is always about exploring yourself and there is an opportunity to do this through performance. However, no one has to perform. None of my kids are musically inclined but (three of my four kids) joined "rock band" and played the guitar, drums and keyboard for the first time. The fourth had a blast with all the other activities. There are kids from all walks of life, with every hair color (and piercings) but that's ok. Everyone is welcome and my kids (although very conservative) loved this idea and being friends with and accepted by kids of all different backgrounds. All four of my kids are so excited to go back each year. This summer will be three summers in a row. The counselors are exceptional. I have a very challenging bunch of kids and they really understood how to bring out the best in my kids. In fact, my oldest loves this place so much that she plans to become an counselors at Ucamps. Send you kids...they will LOVE it too!

It is so wonderful for parents that they have long hours and I can drop off and pick up according to my schedule for the day.
