The three stars are for my experience at an event. It looks like a great place to take kids to learn about the environment and animals, etc. I would give it an extra star for the gorgeous views. It loses stars for the reasons stated below. For a more formal event, it's not ideal for older people especially. (those over 80 and those with any disability) There is a somewhat steep and uneven slope down to the Yurt area where the ground is flat but again, uneven and covered with hay. This caused shoes and feet to be covered in dust soon after arriving. This would be ok if wearing proper sneakers or others made for walking on that type of surface. Wearing the clothes we did, gave us no protection from ticks which the website indicated are prevalent there. In addition, the only restrooms are porta potties. This is a little rustic for a formal event and not so easy for people in wheel chairs. There is no lighting on this path back up to the parking lot. This is entirely unsafe after the sun has gone down. All of that said, I would recommend this venue for a school field trip where students are dressed appropriately and are visiting during daylight hours. I would not, however, recommend it for a formal event. read more

What a magical place! We pulled in on a Friday afternoon whim over spring break, and were blown away. My kids pet goats and sheep, and held a baby lamb! We walked along the property taking in the beauty, explored whale bones and watched dolphins swim off the coast (I mean it...unbelievable!). My daughter won't stop talking about eating honeysuckles from the garden! What a gem, that offers so many important programs and beautiful spaces to camp and commune for various events. I will be supporting this place in all ways I can to allow future generations to enjoy it as we have! read more

Absolute disaster. Spring event they force to park on 1 took 55 min to get on one of their two shuttles. Then you wait forever to get back to your car. Scam level food prices and tickets themselves are nutty. I will never return and urge anyone who appreciates the ability to come and go as you like to do the same. read more

Slide Ranch is amazing. I went for the recent Spring Fling celebration and I felt so lucky to get to spend a day out in the sunshine on a cliff above the Pacific Ocean. Slide is easily one of my favorite places to visit. Whether you want to hike, look at wildlife, or learn about the environment, Slide will provide what you need. It also has a large set of tide pools for weekend foragers and kids to splash around in. If you're looking for a quick day trip to Marin County and looking for a little of everything, this is the spot. My husband and I spent quite some time looking for wedding venues. We were very specific about what we wanted: unique ocean view. We came across many different venues but I just couldn't fall in love with any of them. I then found Slide Ranch and from seeing the pictures online, I knew it would be our wedding venue. We went for a visit and met with Jesse (he's awesome, by the way!), the operations manager, he showed us around, told us about the story behind Slide Ranch and how they help children connect to nature and I was sold. What a beautiful place and beautiful message! I used to live in Marin and what a shame I didn't know about this paradise before. As other reviews stated, the venue is very raw. Meaning that you will need to rent pretty much everything. It wasn't really a problem for us, though. We had our wedding ceremony at the dome, our cocktail hour at the farm to table center deck and the reception at the yurt. We also rented the farm to table center for our rehearsal dinner. It was recently built and it's top notch! Amazing views from the deck, brand new commercial kitchen and picnic tables. I have zero complaints about the staff. Everybody is friendly, helpful and they always try to be as flexible as possible, which is awesome when you are bride with lots of ideas ;). I do recommend hiring a wedding planner, since their main focus is not being a wedding venue, they do not offer any type of help with the planning aspect of the wedding. There is a LOT of planning involved and I don't know how I would've done it without my wedding planner. I got married on June 2 and it was one of the hottest days ever, clear skies and all. Everything was beautiful and I couldn't have had a better wedding day. If you are looking for an unique, meaningful and scenic wedding venue, Slide Ranch is the place! I had my wedding at Slide Ranch on Memorial Day weekend. What an amazing venue! Jesse is the site coordinator at Slide Ranch, and was very helpful through the wedding planning process. Everyone at Slide Ranch is incredibly friendly. Although we did not have a wedding coordinator, we seriously wished we would have hired someone. (Slide Ranch requires you have a planner/coordinator now). This is a BIG job for wedding planning. You'll have to rent every single thing, and there is no kitchen to utilize unless you're also renting the farm to table house, so your caterer will have to bring anything and everything to prepare your meal. We had our wedding at the yurt. There is a beautiful driftwood archway to say your vows, and the yurt to dance in. It's such a gorgeous area, especially in the springtime when all the wildflowers are blooming. Slide Ranch's main focus is not being a wedding venue, but instead and educational farm so there will be other events going on at the time of your wedding. We made it work! My husband and I love that we will be able to take our children here in the future for their toddler days, cooking classes, and tide pools treks. I highly recommend Slide Ranch as your wedding venue if you want a deeply personal, DIY-ish wedding! read more

Take the Tide Pool trail and you will be transported to the beach. A bit rocky but nevertheless a great hike down. There were chickens, ducks, beehives, goats. No bathroom; only portapotty. There was a sink for washing hands. I would come back again but windy roads to get here. read more

This place is absolutely beautiful, even though I didn't get to experience the beauty of it all. I was lucky enough to volunteer an entire day (8 hours) here. During that day we learned to build planter boxes and prepare the ground for vegetation. It was a lot of hard work. I was a mad woman when you gave me a tool. I think I didn't know my own strength, because I broke one of their hammers, while breaking apart an existing planter box. It was so much fun!! My team leader was super nice. She showed us what to do and was very patient with us since we had no clue on how to build or let alone prep the ground for one. After several hours, we stepped back and marveled on our accomplishment. We tore down and rebuilt 4 large planter boxes. Now, I can say if I ever want to build one for myself, friends or family, I know what to do. Aside from volunteering at this place, I learned a lot about what they offer. They help teach kids the skills of gardening, cooking, and caring for animals (yes they have animals here that you can pet). Basically be one with nature. They offer several camping adventures within the grounds for kids. Not only do they have several vegetation around the facility but they're also located right above a beach. How cool is that!! Want to know the BEST thing?!?! You can bring your family here and experience it all for the cost of FREE!!! Yup, you heard it right. It's FREE!!! So grab your family and experience what Slide Creek can offer. If your adventurous consider biking to this location or take a hike in the many paths created throughout the grounds. Slide Ranch is a wonderful organization. They are a non profit that focuses on educating disadvantaged students on sustainable agriculture. The ranch itself is absolutely beautiful. It's so serene and peaceful! You're basically sitting on a cliff facing the ocean.. it's pretty spectacular. I'm the volunteer coordinator for my schools honor society and I decided that I wanted to organize a day for our members to volunteer at Slide. I spoke back and forth with Emily who was extremely helpful! When we arrived we met Dylan and learned more about the farm, received a tour, met the animals, and started working on our project. We had a ton of fun and Dylan was great! Everyone else that we met was so kind and welcoming. You could tell that they were so passionate about what they were doing. I think everyone should take a trip to Slide. It's owned by the National Parks and it's open to the public! They have regular days set aside each month where they welcome volunteers. It was a very rewarding experience and I hope to visit again in the near future! read more

A true hidden gem. I parked at the Muir overlook for a photo opp, like most people. I saw the Owl Trail sign to Slide Ranch, which is 1.5km away. I decided to walk to it. It's about 20 min each way, depending on your pace. Open seating and picnic tables by the yurt. Beautiful view and running faucet water to wash your hands. Not crowded at all. Poison ivy and hemlock by the ranch, but there's plenty of signage. From the ranch to the tidepools, it's an additional 5-8 min walk. read more

This week the amazing crew at Slide Ranch has been hosting our preschool on virtual field trips! This is such a treat because every past year we have taken the school on field trips there in the spring/summer, and weren't able to this year due to covid. This is something both the staff and students at our preschool truly look forward to. So for the kids (And us teachers) to be able to virtually be outside exploring the ranch was very special. We got to see and learn about the many goats and sheep, bee hives, chickens and ducks... as well as the stunning ocean view. The crew was incredibly knowledgable and engaging with the children. We went up to Slide Ranch for "Spring Fling" and had a great day. What I liked most about our day was that it was really hands on. We held an egg that was still warm, we fed the chickens from our hands, we combed out wool to make yarn, and we even did some felting. We brought along some lunch and also enjoyed some tamales from Donna's Tamales. The views of the ocean from the Ranch are spectacular and there are some trails leading down to the tidepools. They had a bunch of other activities going on like pickling, cheese making and more, but there's only so much you can do with a one year old. That night my four year old asked me if we could go back next weekend and was already planning who to bring along so I think we'll be back. read more

I came to Slide Ranch for a friend's birthday party. It was a bit difficult to find at night, but worth the trek from the City. It's actually not that far, about 30 minutes north. It just seemed further because of the switchbacks. My friend's party was in the Yurt - it's a gazebo-like structure covered, and a bit tent-like. Great dance floor! My first time in a Yurt, and it was pretty cool. The side facing the ocean is clear plastic, so you can see the waves crashing against the rocks below. It's quite impressive. Fortunately since it was a full moon, I could see the waves at night. It would be a great place for a special event, though the only plumbing the night I was there was a port-a-potty. My husband and I got married at Slide Ranch last month and can't stop talking about what an amazing day it was. We fell in love with the venue from the moment we stepped out of the car the day we came to look at it. We wanted to share the beauty of northern California with all our guests, and Slide Ranch delivered. We had our ceremony at the dome, dinner at the Farm to Table Teaching Center, and cocktail hour and dancing at the yurt. There are amazing views from everywhere you go, and we really enjoyed seeing all the wildlife that showed up that day too (whales, dolphins, foxes, deer). The team at Slide Ranch is amazing. Jesse is friendly, helpful, and very flexible. He was really communicative with us throughout the entire process, but also laid-back and easy to work with. We had a wedding coordinator (I think they now require this) and you need one here! I'd definitely recommend someone who has experience working at Slide Ranch before and knows all the ins and outs of the venue. You will have to rent everything, including bathrooms! My husband and I also love that Slide Ranch's main purpose is not to be a wedding venue. I thought it was on the expensive side based on what they provide, but the fact that your money is going to help an amazing organization makes it all worth it in the end. My review is for the lack of customer support/service I've had over the past several months of *attempting* to visit Slide Ranch. Back in June, we took a friend's spot for the toddler day at Slide Ranch. It was a little rainy that day but we figured, after calling them, and not having received any cancellation notice, that the event was still happening. We drove up to Marin from the city, realized it was closed, and drove back with a very disappointed toddler. Slide Ranch promised to let us know about their next event well in advance so we could secure a spot. Their next event is this weekend, and of course, it's sold out, and I never heard a thing from them. And after emailing them with my predicament, have heard nothing back. Bummer. Guess we'll have to make due with Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this weekend instead. Poor us. read more

A magical place to host an upscale dinner party with an unbeatable view. We recently celebrated my wife's 30th here with 25 friends for dinner and camping(option for glamping). We had a personal chef come and use the new commercial kitchen located in the new Farm to Table Teaching Center building. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed to cook for large groups and can seat up to 30 inside with plenty more room on the modern deck. We chose to eat down by the yurt which is located about 50 yards from the kitchen and looks directly out over the ocean. After dinner, we sat by the fire to enjoy the evening a little more. Those of us that camped were in awe of the view the next morning and made our selves at home in the dome which has everything you need to fix a hot gourmet breakfast. The campsite is set away from the ranch by a 1/4 mile behind a group of cedars so you feel you are the only ones on this secluded shoreline. I worked with Jesse who is the operations manager there. He was very communicative and helpful as this was my first time planning this size event. Gabe was onsite the day of and took complete care of us. If you are looking for a place to wow your guest not far from the city this is the place! read more

On my way to Stinson Beach, I accidentally discovered Slide Ranch and it has since become one of my favorite local hidden gems. This non-profit teaching farm is perched above the ocean in the Marin Headlands. Only half an hour outside of SF, this place makes you feel like you're in a different world. There's a turn of the century farmhouse, creamery, organic gardens, goats, sheep, chickens and ducks. After checking out the farm animals, you can hike along the coastal trail toward the tide-pools where you'll see starfish, sea anemones and more. Hidden gem and a total time warp. The property is public land, but you feel like you've snuck onto the property of a hidden hippie co-op. The property is a total trip. Slide Ranch is pretty cool. Came with work just yesterday and it was THE perfect day. The weather was great - not too hot and not too cold - and the view is spectacular. The twisty roads to get there can be dizzying and the directions are a tad bit confusing, but it's so worth it in the end. The kids got to milk a goat, feed the milk to a baby goat, hold, pet, and feed chickens, wander around their organic gardens, make sage bunches to take home, and have a picnic lunch on their beautiful grounds. It was very informative and tons of fun for the kiddies. I would definitely come back. It was great! read more

Heaven on Earth! We've been to the Harvest Festival two years in a row, and it's one of my favorite things to do as a family. The property is beautiful! You can wander around the garden eating vegetables and fruit right off the plants, you can learn how to card wool in the yurt, you can chase chickens, collect eggs and milk goats. The bands that played this year were wonderful. I really can't say enough good things about this place. Oh, and the staff is wonderful! This place is pure magic. I had my wedding here of 130ish guests last weekend and it was incredible. Be aware though--having a wedding here is an unbelievable amount of planning and coordinating and ultimately becomes pretty costly. You have to bring in shuttles, toilets, lighting, food (and there is no kitchen), tables, chairs.... and that being said, it was amazing. I came to Slide Ranch for my internship's summer trip! It was really worth it!! And they accepted us even though we did not give like a long term notice. My first time milking a goat and tasting raw goat milk. SHH. It was quite fun and entertaining watching my friends milking a goat. I camped here for about two days? One night and two days. I feel asleep to the crashing of the waves because the camp ground was right below the ocean. The staff was all soo friendly! There is no Slide here! They call it Slide Ranch because the place is slowly sliding one inch every several years. My friends and I made cheese! And this egg stir fry with potatoes, chives, and many other herbs and veggies. It was delicious but I wished we would've added salt to the cheese. There is only ONE MALE goat on the WHOLE ranch and he is kind of loco so be careful when you are near him. But goats scare me in general because their eyes are scary. I enjoyed my time here! And I would suggest people to come here. read more

I went to the family camping trip at Slide Ranch and it was miserable. First, the walk to the campground is 1/4 miles very narrow and inclined. You have to move your stuff in wheelbarrows that kept tipping over over the rough terrain. I could barely function after 4 trips back and forth w/ screaming children. Second, it's over priced. At $80 per person or $400 for my family, I had some minimal level of expectations. However, they put you to work and you have to sign up for "duties" like washing dishes and emptying trash. You bring most of the food you eat (they provide donated continental breakfast). It's very cold and windy. The location is beautiful but there are much nicer places to camp. The only thing positive about the place is the workers (mostly young high school looking kids) were nice and kind to the children. My kids got to milk a goat and feed a chicken. However, I expected more activities for the price. I think visiting would be great but would not recommend sleeping over unless you like doing hard labor. I found the experience similar to being in a prison camp. read more

just went with my husband and two year old to slide ranch for their ocean exploration tour (not camp out). it was surprisingly mellow. the schedule was relaxed, giving us plenty of time to wander the farm, milk goats, graze sheep and etc. it has a sense of peace about it that i think is great for kids. they have the cleanest chicken coop i have ever seen (100 times cleaner than the little farm in Berkeley), with the cleanest chickens (beautifully colored). they have goats that don't have crazy eyes. the animals there just look HAPPY. there is a little hike to get to the tidepools and we could have stayed there a long time if not for the fact that i am pretty heavily pregnant and we just have one of us to chase after our energetic toddler. i highly recommend it. the staff were very patient with kids. very accepting of toddler temperaments and etc. very mellow as well. ;) read more
