The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. Moldy and filled with bugs in the evening and early morning.

Let me say, the actual camp sites we chose (three of them for a group) were beautiful and secluded, though near the road enough to hear the cars. The actual place is not like the pictures. It's VERY run down and over crowded. Campers are piled right in one after another. The pool itself seemed clean, but the blow up water slide and splash area are showing their age. And one of the river entrances was blocked off. Now, the bathroom pictures people posted here were very misleading. We found the stalls with galvanized metal nearest the pool. But they were completely covered in mold. And the facilities closest to us were as pictured here. Disgusting. For the price, I was very disappointed.

Everyone had to move over 1 site to accommodate a camper on the wrong site. Never going back!!!

We don't care about the pool or wifi, don't care about what kinds of programming for families they may have, or any of the other things camp grounds are pushing these days. We want a somewhat private site, we want to be able to keep our fire going as late as we want (as long as it is under control), and we want to be able to keep our music playing at a reasonable level. We have never been told to put out our fire during quiet hours, or to turn off our music. We can stay up all night having a great time by the fire and playing cards without being broken up, but everyone plays by the same rules meaning it is not a wild place and we have never encountered other sites being too loud for our enjoyment. If you're looking for some old fashioned camping - even in an RV - where you can enjoy being outside with good company all night, this is a great spot. The staff has always been pleasant as well and the rates are comparable to nearby grounds.

Clearwater has a lake, but the lots are more jammed packed and not as spacious. Clearwater seems to be more family friendly with a playground, lake, etc. Meredith is more laid back and quiet. Meredith also has an indoor pool and hot tub which is nice. The staff at both places were very friendly and both have a nice store. We drove over to Clearwater to spend the day on the beach/lake. We rented kayaks which were very decently priced ($6 single, $12 double for 2 hrs.). The water was very clear and the beach was pretty large. The only downside to our camp site was a fence beside us. It made it feel a bit less woodsy. I also felt they could clean up around the store and grounds a bit. It looks a bit rundown. Same with the docks at Clearwater. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. We would stay here again!

CAMPER BEWARE!!!!…read more Upon my family's arrival at The Twin Tamarack, we checked in, excited to start our long Columbus Day weekend, around 4:30 or so, an 1 1/2 after check-in. We received our key to the trailer at site #68 and walked into this!! Feces on the toilet seat, stained sheets, dirty microwave, filthy cookware, unwashed dirty floors and bathrooms. Dust everywhere.... and hair still inside the showers! Completely disgusted by the stench, and horrified by what we were seeing, we called the front to make them aware of how unclean the trailer was. Mind you, we were originally told by the owner that professional cleaners cleaned and disinfected after each guests stay, prior to us agreeing to put down our down payment to begin with. The woman taking our call said to her husband (The owner) what we were reporting looking to him for feedback; the man said, and I quote, "I only went in to make sure it didn't stink." The woman apologized and sent another employee to clean. Needless to say, my family and I were displaced until 8:00 p.m with a van full of belongings and groceries we had just purchased for our family vacation. We had to now go out to dinner and feed our family of five. We were offered a complimentary night, however, the night was already gone, and the trailer we had rented for the weekend was minimally cleaned. We asked the owner to meet us in the middle at half price, off of our already [paid] three night stay, because we had just driven 3 hours to get there; were displaced until 8:00; had to go out to dinner and feed our family; and by then we just wanted to rest. (So my family was willing to settle because of this whole ordeal and just stay). The couple proceeded to laugh in my face, and said it was "my prerogative" if I wanted to leave, and the night was not gone." Unwilling to work with us, after their mess-up, we got our full refund back. My husband and I were appalled by the owners, and how rude and miserable they were. Sorry for the long post, but I feel any family visiting should be aware of this, especially during a pandemic! Stray far away from this campground. You will be disappointed if you stay. Wish there was an option for ZERO stars!

Upon getting to our site within five minutes my niece steps on rusty barbed wire puncturing and scraping up her legs. Causing an appointment at the doctors office for a shot. Then after smelling something horrible for almost two hours we looked up to see dead lobster shells hung on branches above the camp. Amongst the shells trash was basically spread out threw the sites with no obvious attempt to pick anything up. DO NOT USE THE BATHROOMS. Enter the Flume Gorge. The whole trail is well-marked and was roughly two miles of walking for us, with some occasional hills and terrain. All along the way, there was plenty of nature to appreciate, with the waterfalls being the clear highlight of the show. My inner nerd loved the various signs and placards throughout the course that either gave travelers information about the flora, fauna, or geological history of different spots. I especially appreciate that there are limited numbers of tickets that are sold within time slots. I presume that's to keep the trail from getting too loud or crowded. My husband and I caved into the strong recommendations to purchase tickets online (the prevailing reason seems to be avoiding the peril of 'sold out tickets', but when we bought ours the night before our visit, there were still more than enough spots available). There are bathrooms available at the start of the hike (and technically also at the end, since the trail is circular). The visitor center/store is connected to the restrooms, though it's implicitly recommended to enter at the end of your hike since there's no reentering the trail once you come into the store. For those famished at the end of their visit, there's also a small food court selling fast food items and a modestly sized seating area. We paid $37 for two advance tickets (which includes a dollar 'print at home' surcharge, even if there's a scannable barcode included in the confirmation email that prevents needing to print anything). Parking was fine in the private lot and plentiful, especially during the early morning slot we took. Overall, this is a nice and easy hike for those who want to connect with nature on a non-intense hike.

I believe it was $22/night (bring cash or check for the honor system envelope drop by the entrance of the campground). The campsite is close to the river but not close enough to hear it. However, there was a little trail from our campsite to the water and it took only a minute to get there. If you want a campsite really close to the Swift River, you'll need to get a campsite #21-24. Our campsite had a picnic table and a large fire ring with a grill grate that will lower over the fire. There were even some large tree stumps left there for seating. We didn't have anyone camping around us, but I'd imagine each campsite has a good amount of privacy and space during peak season. Id recommend buying firewood before you arrive at Passaconoway. The year-round campground host sells firewood (which is very convenient) but you can get double your money's worth if you buy them from little wood stands on the side of the road. OK there are a few spots for groups and you could probably get an RV and trailer up there, but I have yet to see it. The campsites here all have the basics for tent camping: picnic table, fire pit/grill, peace and quiet. Most of the sites are spaced far apart so that you don't turn your head and make eye contact with a neighbor. Some of them are almost completely isolated, and a few have lean-tos (you're near the Appalachian Trail after all). The fire pits are kind of annoying though, they're basically three-sided iron boxes with sliding grates on top. You'll stay warm and can easily cook on them, but not everyone is going to have a great view of the fire. There is garbage on site, pit toilets, potable water, and lots of hiking nearby. In fact, the hiking is probably one of the biggest draws. You could get a spot here and then hike to one of the other campgrounds in the national forest (those are obviously hike-in only), or just spend a few hours in the forest. We saw lots of moose droppings, but no moose. Maybe your luck will be better than mine. The river is nearby and there are several parks and access points to get to it. I saw quite a few people fly fishing last time I was here. You've got to drive to Maine to get here, and then head about 5 miles along a dirt road to cross back into NH. Stock up in nearby Gorham and bring plenty of firewood. You'll want to stay at least two nights, and you'll definitely want to come back.
