I've always had a great experience camping here, and have gone each year for about 5 years. I am 30…read moreyears old, typically camp with uncle and cousin and some other friends that are about 30 years old. We don't care about the pool or wifi, don't care about what kinds of programming for families they may have, or any of the other things camp grounds are pushing these days. We want a somewhat private site, we want to be able to keep our fire going as late as we want (as long as it is under control), and we want to be able to keep our music playing at a reasonable level. We have never been told to put out our fire during quiet hours, or to turn off our music. We can stay up all night having a great time by the fire and playing cards without being broken up, but everyone plays by the same rules meaning it is not a wild place and we have never encountered other sites being too loud for our enjoyment. If you're looking for some old fashioned camping - even in an RV - where you can enjoy being outside with good company all night, this is a great spot. The staff has always been pleasant as well and the rates are comparable to nearby grounds.

We stayed at Meredith…read moreWoods, but Clearwater is right across the street and you have access to the amenities there too. Meredith Woods has bigger, more spaced out lots and is not on the lake. Clearwater has a lake, but the lots are more jammed packed and not as spacious. Clearwater seems to be more family friendly with a playground, lake, etc. Meredith is more laid back and quiet. Meredith also has an indoor pool and hot tub which is nice. The staff at both places were very friendly and both have a nice store. We drove over to Clearwater to spend the day on the beach/lake. We rented kayaks which were very decently priced ($6 single, $12 double for 2 hrs.). The water was very clear and the beach was pretty large. The only downside to our camp site was a fence beside us. It made it feel a bit less woodsy. I also felt they could clean up around the store and grounds a bit. It looks a bit rundown. Same with the docks at Clearwater. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. We would stay here again!

OK there are a few spots for groups and you could probably get an RV and trailer up there, but I have yet to see it. The campsites here all have the basics for tent camping: picnic table, fire pit/grill, peace and quiet. Most of the sites are spaced far apart so that you don't turn your head and make eye contact with a neighbor. Some of them are almost completely isolated, and a few have lean-tos (you're near the Appalachian Trail after all). The fire pits are kind of annoying though, they're basically three-sided iron boxes with sliding grates on top. You'll stay warm and can easily cook on them, but not everyone is going to have a great view of the fire. There is garbage on site, pit toilets, potable water, and lots of hiking nearby. In fact, the hiking is probably one of the biggest draws. You could get a spot here and then hike to one of the other campgrounds in the national forest (those are obviously hike-in only), or just spend a few hours in the forest. We saw lots of moose droppings, but no moose. Maybe your luck will be better than mine. The river is nearby and there are several parks and access points to get to it. I saw quite a few people fly fishing last time I was here. You've got to drive to Maine to get here, and then head about 5 miles along a dirt road to cross back into NH. Stock up in nearby Gorham and bring plenty of firewood. You'll want to stay at least two nights, and you'll definitely want to come back.

This was in the middle of a 2 month trip and we simply needed an answer, so we could make other arrangements if we couldn't get in. I called and emailed Red Apple 3-4 times a week. Silent for 6 months. Then when they finally returned calls, they did t go in order received. One friend got a call and got a poor site, with his first call to them two months after all of our calls. When they did call back,the woman was incredibly rude. She offered me the only site available and said, "we have regular returning customers", who we book earlier than our normal calendar and they book a year in advance. This would have been nice to know. My discussion with this woman, wasn't about the site, but was how they advertise. She wanted to argue and could only repeat that she was NOW returning my call (months later and weeks after the park was open) and said "take it or leave it. Traveling with 5 others, we had to leave it and found an amazing RV Park a few miles away. The employee there welcomed all of us. What a contrast. Especially after booking at 25 other rv Parks on this trip. I had heard this is a nice park. I don't doubt that, but what a disappointment. No zero's available for this park, but def zero for their reservations and favoritism system.

I love the fact that it has a dog park and it is a dog friendly establishment. I would prefer if the showers had better pressure and were more modern, normally we wouldn't use it but our shower in our RV was out of commission. The store had good snacks and they did a great job picking up the trash and everyone was friendly.
