Advanced Vision Institute - Gucci, ready for the warm Williamsburg weather. - Optometrists Near Me - Williamsburg, Virginia

Have tried numerous times to schedule an appointment. Called, but get no answer. Tried their "Schedule an appointment" on their website, no response. While I understand we are in the middle of a pandemic, that's a poor excuse for NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I mean if their closed, then put that on the answering system. read more

Are you looking for a routine eye exam? BEWARE! DO NOT GO HERE! I went for an ordinary annual eye exam, my first visit at this establishment however. An annual eye checkup is and always has been covered by my eye insurance carrier. This visit was uneventful and very brief. No surprises and nothing unusual. The same report as always just some minor vision changes resulting in an updated lens prescription. Shockingly and without my knowledge they upcharged multiple procedures without my knowledge which was declined by my eye carrier, which they then submitted to my medical carrier who also declined, and now just billed to me personally $417! This business is quite obviously only concerned with milking insurance companies or stick YOU with a bill for procedures that you are not made unaware of (and honestly not even sure if performed?). AVOID FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! Take note of all the One Star reviews. I should have paid attention. Keep scrolling and go somewhere else unless you're willing to take the financial risk! read more

I hate writing reviews, so I'm surprised that I'm even writing one. But after today's cluster f**k, I needed to vent. You know those handy little text messages that doctor/dentist offices send to remind you of your appointment? Yeah. I think they're great...until they're not. I received 3 text messages reminding me of my appointment today. One on March 16, one on March 24, and another one today, March 29. When I arrived at the appointment time, I was told that the doctor I was supposed to see no longer worked there! The receptionist also said she tried to call me this morning to say those exact words. I said, "Well I don't show a record of your call, so apparently you didn't!" It's kinda hard to say you called these days when everyone has a cell phone. She then said "Well all of our providers are done for the day. Would you like to reschedule with another provider?" I didn't. I'll be looking for another eye doctor. read more

Very unprofessional and do not keep up with or track their patients progress. Slacking! Neglect! They had me do a lab test for Deep Vein Thrombosis, my insurance company had an opthamologist review the testing with my entire medical records. They stated that someone like me would never even be suspected of having DVT and slapped me with a $200.00 bill. Thats what you deal with at Advanced Vision Institute! The part that bothers me the most is that I persistently called to resolve the issue, but I always received a rude medical receptionist that wanted to interrupt me, receiving various miscellaneous answers to shut me up for the time being! read more

Had a full eye exam here about 6 months ago, because of concerns related to double vision. The end result was a doctor who suggested that all I needed was a stronger pair of readers. Today, I had an appointment with another optometrist in Williamsburg, who conducted an extensive examination based on the exact same information I provided AVI and learned that I suffer from very specific eye condition. My experience here was NOT a good one, but glad that I found someone who could actually help me. read more

My mom's glasses broke, and being that this was the second time they broke the same way, she decided it was time for some new frames. Since I was down for a visit, I thought I'd help her find a nice pair. (Yes, I'm an awesome son) We went to a couple other stores, but they had a very limited selection of clip-on sunglasses. Clip-ons were a must for Mom, and the options were disappointing at those other places. Then I remembered Advance Vision Institute. As soon as we walked in, I saw a whole area of clip-ons and knew we had found the right place. The sales lady was amazingly patient and helpful while Mom tried on all the options. Once she had picked a frame, they use a machine to get the exact measurements of your face and frames, so that the frames will fit exactly the way you want. I wish my place in Cincinnati had that! Then there was the "amazing" moment. The sales lady noticed Mom's broken glasses and offered to do a temporary fix for free! Normally this repair costs around $100! A great place to get glasses, and I wish they had a location in Cincinnati! read more

AVI and Dr C have gotten too big for their collective britches. While the staff for the most part, is lovely the patients are treated like cattle. We are herded into the holding pen and culled out periodically for a test then returned to the holding pen. Whoa be unto you if you dare to refrain from participating in their blatant fleecing of their patients. They charge you over a hundred dollars for a retratification (sp) test. If you decline you find out at the END of the appointment at checkout NO EYE PRESCRIPTION FOR YOU!!! When asking Dr C about an error he made IN FRONT OF ME he denied it like a gaslighting boyfriend. I will never go back to this shet show. They are a disgrace. An hour and a half of my life I will never get back and too long for an eye examination. read more

I never write reviews, but I am furious with this office. I have waited months to see Dr. Campbell as a new patient. Today, 19 days ahead of my appointment, I received a phone call from someone in his office, telling me that there will not be any doctors in the office during the week of my appointment and that the soonest they could reschedule me was in 4 months! She offered no attempt to squeeze me into the schedule sooner. Forget it - I will find someone else. That is extremely inconsiderate and no way to treat a patient who has already been very "patient"! read more

the williamsburg avi office is the rudest i have ever seen... they rush you off the phone, place you on hold for long periods of time and talk to you as if your stupid. the docs there are wonderful, however the staff that answers the phone or staff that checks you in are rude as all outdoors.. i called to verify an appointment and the staff instisted that there was no patient with this name and then when i told her the date she searched and it was put in incorrectly.. staff never appoligized for being wrong.. im seriously condering a new eye doc.. on top of all that the eye glasses are very exspensive.. read more

I had LASIK with Dr. Campbell in May 2012, and I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made when it comes to my health. I now have 20/15 (better then perfect!) vision in both eyes and I am free from my dreaded contact lenses. Besides the great results, the staff was very friendly and welcoming which eased all the anxieties I had about the procedure. I would highly recommend AVI to anybody who is interested in LASIK or even just a basic eye exam. read more

Had my first visit to AVI for an annual checkup. Staff were friendly and efficient. Facilities are nice and close to home. Doctor did a good job explaining the results of my exam. Only complaint was a 45 minute wait. read more

I have been going to Dr. Campbell for 20 years. Most recently I had cataract surgery combined with LASIK that gave me better than 20/20 vision and eliminated the need for glasses for the first time since I was 9 years old. His office is well run and while occasionally he has an emergency that delays his schedule overall it is a satisfactory experience. read more

My husband was referred by an optometrist to Dr. Campbell due to continued blurriness both near and far in his left eye that was not correctable through simple reading glasses. He has always had 20/20 vision. I accompanied him because I have had corrective lens for 25+ years so knew the drill. The exams prior to the doctor's exam appeared standard and ruled out any major issues with his actual eye. When the doctor arrived - with the understanding that the optometrist was unable to correct his vision - Dr. Campbell performed the fastest exam recorded in history. My husband, who has never been to a eye doctor was taken aback by this approach where he was never actually asked if he could see any of the letters and numbers clearly when presented with the different options. Without confirming that my husband could in fact see clearly through the machine, Campbell settled on a prescription that was stronger than the original, saying the optometrist had made a mistake. But since he never bothered to ask if my husband could see clearly, it would appear that he didn't care enough to make sure he had done a complete exam. Plus he conducted the refraction AFTER my husband's eyes had been dilated which is the opposite of what is typically done. So my husband went back to the optometrist, and needless to say, the prescription the doctor had hastily produced in no way improved his blurriness. As a result, she has referred him to a neuro-ophthalmologist in Richmond due to her concern that something behind the eye was causing the blurriness. Dr. Campbell - who is the medical doctor- should have recognized that my husband may have another issue that deserved immediate attention - instead he gave him a completely useless prescription to get rid of us and get his $300 or whatever he gets from the insurance company. Apathy and carelessness and perhaps incompetence are what come to mind when I think about this practice. read more

I had cataract surgery this year (2012) performed by Dr. Campbell of AVI. The surgery in my right eye resulted in an abrasion with scarring in the center of the cornea, resulting in blurred vision that cannot be corrected with any type of lenses. Although this scarring obviously resulted from something that occurred during the surgery (it was present in my eye the next morning at the post-operative checkup and nothing happened to my eye in between), Dr. Campbell denied any responsibility, claiming it had been caused by dry eye. For 6 months he had me taking steroidal drops and other medications that were supposed to heal the abrasion. But after 6 months, when there was no improvement and I started having short blackouts in that eye, they sent me to have an echocardiogram and other expensive tests on the theory that I had some heart condition, when in fact it turned out that the blackouts were caused by their steroidal drops (durezol?) and went away immediately after I stopped using them. Throughout, Dr. Campbell was very cavalier about my condition. I am now faced with the possibility that the only remedy for my condition is risky laser surgery to try to remove the scar tissue, or to live with the blurred vision in that eye. read more
