Every visit I have had here has been absolutely wonderful. I seldom have to wait beyond the scheduled time for my appointment, and, when the appointment does begin, the staff are courteous, caring, and attentive to what I am physically feeling. The women working in the optical division of the Eye Center are nothing short of wonderful, as well (my particular experience has been with Emily, whom I would credit for ensuring that I do not prematurely develop blindness). I tend to be very critical of doctors (medical jargon doesn't impress me, in the words of Julia Sugarbaker), and I've never had anything but wonderful experiences here. If your insurance covers the Eye Center, I would heartily encourage you to go. The facility is lovely and maintained impeccably, and the staff and doctors are a delight.

My old Eye Doctor back in my hometown only had 1 person working in the office. It always seemed that I was in and out quickly. There are 3 providers that I know of here. I lost count of the number of people working in this business, this just needlessly drives up the cost of care in my opinion. My primary issue is I was careless and let the provider prescribe a contact lens that did not work correctly. I made contact and was told they would order a trial lens and call me back for another fitting That was months ago and I still have not heard back. I'm not going back, and it's a shame because this clinic is almost within walking distance from my home.

Furthermore he is falsely…read morefabricating "medical" concerns that simply don't exist and not informing patients of such until they get a big bill from him and their medical insurance company when the patient has vision insurance that would pay for the exam. BEWARE THIS IS ILLEGAL. I am reporting to the State of Virginia and patients must pay attention as they could be found culpable if not reported. Greed has overtaken this practice. The main reason why I was hesitant because of a bad experience with another office. Dr Barley was very informative throughout the exam. He had told me my sight was getting better then worse which I had originally thought. During the exam he had showed me what I was wearing compared to what I needed which was a big difference. When I asked for a re-check, it was confirmed that I had been given the wrong prescription and they gave me another one. This time the optician's comment was "This has somebody else's name on it!" I hadn't even noticed that my name was not on the top line! He called the office and they faxed the CORRECT prescription. No one ever reached out to me or offered apologies. The medical staff are fine, but the factory-like atmosphere and indifference to patients has me searching for a new ophthalmologist.

The reason for the poor review goes against the Riverside Hospital where the surgery was performed. During preparation for the surgery, the nurses and aides at the Riverside Hospital push you to get a "little" anesthesia for the surgery to ensure that you're comfortable during the procedure. Now, NO ONE from Cullom & Farah's office talked about anesthesia during the surgery and the need for it, but I thought - hey this is the same stuff you get at a Dentist's office so what's the big deal! Months later, after all the bills were paid by my insurance, I was hit by an additional $1,500 bill by Riverside Hospital! Surely, the staff at Collum and Farah should have been aware of what Riverside Hospital was doing and discussed the need or lack of anesthesia before I had the surgeries!

I stopped in at this new place (just opened in Dec 2015, they said) and the young lady put a whole new pair of nosepieces on that were even better than the ones that were on there. She said there was NO CHARGE for that - and that they always do FREE adjustments and repairs there - even thought I hadn't gotten my glasses from there. You gotta love that! Plus they had a TON of frames in their shop....you should check it out - they're right near Menchie's yogurt and Petco...

They weren't quite sure how to deal with my exhuberance but they were helpful and friendly. The physician assistant was very business like and didn't want to have light banter and the doctor didn't once look me in the eye. She was too busy reading notes and looking at her tablet. All that aside, once you get to the fun part, this is a GREAT team to help you with your new.look. Seriously. I would go back often if I could afford lots of glasses!

So I tried for 3 weeks as much as I could. I need to read and use the computer a lot in my job so I couldn't wear them at work. I couldn't see out of them at home either. It turns out there's a lot that you need to be able to see on days off too. After 3 weeks I went back. They said the 2nd exam said the same thing. I told them several times that everything in the test was still blurry even though I can read the words and tell what picture was better, there were no clear options. I told them I wore positive 3.75 strength in my readers again. They increased to positive 2.5. When the glasses came in again, I went to pick them up. Once again I couldn't read out of them. I can read the words but they are still so blurry and they cause bad eye strain, which triggers a migraine. The lady up front then acted like it was my fault for not telling the doctor about the strength of my readers and the blurriness of everything during the exam. I told her I did several times during both exams. They don't listen or believe a word I say. Like, why would I lie? I want to be able to see. It's incredibly frustrating when I can't read and sometimes call people the wrong name because I can't see them clearly with just my readers. She had an attitude and told me somebody would get back to me. Nobody ever did so I have 2 pairs of useless prescription glasses and no exams left since they also only give 1 free exam. I feel like if it's their mistake, I should get as many free exams until they listen and get them right. I was so excited to see and 2 months later I'm still in the same position I was when I started. I'll have to wait for my insurance to cover another exam before I go someplace else. I have been very friendly through it all and I can't believe I received that attitude. It was unnecessary.
