We first saw Dr. Martin. We came in on a Saturday for an unsecheduled appointment and we must have gotten lucky to have him be the doctor who was on call; he was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. So of course, we scheduled futures; however, the next appointment was with Dr. Schwartz, who was abrasive, matter of factly, a bit arrogant, and way too rough with our newborn. He pulled off her unbelical cord prematurely and put silver nitrate on it without telling us it was not covered by insurance - which would have been fine, if it was needed. This procedure made her bleed and get infected shortly after, but because of the infection we had to come right back. We did not even bring her in for that in the first place. We then learned of the "fee" for this from the accounts manager. After we finally got her to explain the charge, we did not contest it; we just asked why and once she continued to talk, we had to counter act her rudeness by lettting her know that it was uncessary to be overly defensive in her position, it was a simple logical question that we had the right to ask regarding the fees and why. She finally agreed that Dr. Schwartz should have told us and we ended our discussion.
After this experience, every time we have gone there, we have usually been scheduled with one of their NPs, which is fine, but why is it so hard to get a "doctor" to see your child? Note, Dr. Martin is usually booked for months, and we can understand why.
Recently, our baby became ill, due to viral / cold, etc.... she was not given any treatment at frist, second time there, about 2 weeks later we did receive meds for her condition- they did not work fast enough for the follow up, so the NP we saw took her off of the antibiotics she prescribed less then a few days earlier and did antibiotic shots. These shots have still not cleared up her condition of ear infection and other related issues; its still not working...in fact all is worse, so brought her back as directed from the previous appointment. This time, we were assigned a different NP. We hardly ever get to see a doctor.
For this appointment, we were late, baby was worse, so sick, and traveled through horrible rush hour stormy weather traffic. We were told it be a wait, which was understandable. Once we were in a room, instead of someone coming in to see if she needed a breathing treatment (they were told she did by me), we were greeted by the rude angry accounts manager (her again?), who after I spilled out my frantic concerns regarding my baby, let me know that she is not a doctor and she is only here to "counsel" me for being late, twice now. This woman goes on to say how important their doctor's schedules are and how they have patients who live further away then we do and get there on time, so I should also; oh yeah, and sorry your baby is so sick!?, REALLY?!
First of all, this woman does not even attempt to know what our situation is, nor does she appear to care; second, she spoke to me in a very unprofessional, scolding, and rude manner. I had already aplogized for being late up front, and even called first. With a sick baby and worry, I really couldnt comprehend her "job to counsel". I told her no worries, it wont happen again, we wont be back. She did not express much concern, but rather agreed that I should probably go elsewhere. We were finally seen, sick non-responsive to all previous treatments daughter, went home with no new dx from yet another NP.
The accounts manager, or whatever she is who likes to counsel late patients, really helped us to expedite getting our baby new care. After this appointment, I then told the front desk personnel who are always a variety of rude, young, obvious inexperienced, girls that I wanted my records and - oh yes, of course, we better not forget the co-pay that I didnt pay right away because my baby was too sick for me to think of doing that straight away. So now we are waiting on the 7 business days that one of the front desk girls said it would take due to her not having "time" to copy our file right now, and of course the extra fee for that, we will pay it upon receipt of records in their office. We need to ensure that copies of "all" incidents are of record, including the late appointments that were pointed out.
To be perfectly clear, despite not agreeing with what Dr. Schwartz did, our main complaints with this practice are not the nurses or physicians, whether it is a doctor or a NP. It is the lack of other profesional staff working for these physicians. We have heard similar complaints from other concerned parents who have to deal with their incompetent staff.
Thanks to the chief, rudest member of their "other" staff, we will no longer be able to in good faith, go there after being made to feel like we are better off somewhere else and that our daughter''s health is nothing important and doesnt even matter. read more
