I changed insurances this year, and had to choose a new dermatologist for my daughter. I am so happy that I chose Dr. Levine. He took the time to read through a looseleaf sheet of paper, on which I had written down everything that we had tried for my daughter's acne. He even had the nurse make a copy for my daughter's file, and then prescribed a course of action, including an antibiotic. I also liked that I could purchase the sulfur wash that my daughter needed at this office, which was 1/3 less money then my pharmacy was charging! My daughter is already seeing an improvement after only a few days of treatment. I would definitely recommend Advanced Dermatology, and especially Dr. Levine! read more

TWENTY days for biopsy results is UNACCEPTABLE. Moreover, the results SHOULD have led to a second biopsy (if you're being prudent, as you'd want your physician to be) but that was not recommended or even suggested. Took my results and went for a second opinion, and was given a second biopsy right away as well as a biopsy on another suspicious spot that was missed by "Advanced Dermatology," Advanced in comparison to what, I don't know. Do yourself a favor, skip the unfriendly scowl at the front desk and seek care elsewhere. read more

If I could give them no stars I would. Made appointment and saw Christopher. So far so good. Christopher says I must have a pre cancerous mole removed. Fine. Lets go. When checking out I am told neither staff surgeon takes my insurance as payment. You couldn't tell me that when I arrived, you know, when you took my $45.00 co-pay? Not these clowns. Even though they gave me my biopsy report I will have to find another doctor who will undoubtedly do exactly what Christopher did before they perform the needed procedure. No specialist around will perform a procedure on the advice of another office. Total waste of my time and money. They should be ashamed but they're not. read more

Keep in mind, I recommend Advanced, but I did not have a great expereince recently with a specific employee. Dr. Levine's assistant is unprofessional and rude. It was like a HS lunch break with the Mean Girls. I will continue to go, but will be more specific with who I request. read more

I have been going here for years and have always been happy with the quality of care. I left once to go to a different dermatologist and was rushed in and out. Luckily, I came back to advanced dermatology. I had a mole on my face that caused concern. The dermatologist decided to get me in for mild surgery. The minor surgery went exceedingly well. I have minimal scarring (the mole was quite large) it was painless and fast. There are quite a few doctors here and it goes without saying that some are good and some are not attentive. I think that goes with most places. The medical community can be kind of - corrupt. The doctor I had was awesome though. You also get free skin products to try out on your way out. read more

First of all, I was charged 50.00 dollars before I even saw any medical professional. This occurred despite the fact my insurance covers my co-pay. Additionally, I was charged for a biopsy. PA Jie Chen, never took a biopsy and only made a visual assessment. I disputed the charge and never received a response. I am RN and can state with certainty that a biopsy was not performed. The best way to judge an office is when something goes wrong and what they do to remedy the situation. I was blaming Donna (the incredibly forgiving office manager) for my claim not being processed. This was a problem as the medication is ludicrously expensive and my condition was spreading (YIKES). Turns out it was my insurance company doing things that neither Donna nor I ever saw before to dodge the claim. I was very disappointed in the service I received. I went to have a cyst removed. After spending alot of cash I still have the cyst. Doctors today can't tell you how much their service will cost for some explainable reason so the patient can make an intelligent decision. They just keep collecting the co-pay and running up your deducible without consideration of what it cost. read more

I've had yearly skin cancer checks here. Pre cancerous cells frozen. And a mole removed to be tested. All were great. Front desk ladies are super sweet. Office is clean and modern. Dr Barazani was honest and professional. Letting me know I did not need further surgery like another office suggested. PA Jie Chen was extremely thorough and quick. Which I love. And PA Melissa Sanoff Wiener actually made my visit enjoyable. Her kindness and sense of humor eased my nervousness. And her thoroughness and professionalism made me confident when I walked out with a clean bill of health till next year. read more

Today I took off from work and arrived for my noontime appointment at advanced dermatology. The worker was very polite but informed me I did not have an appointment today, When I told her I made the appointment six weeks ago on computer she informed me they do not make computer appointments. Well, someone made an appointment for me and confirmed it for me with a reminder this morning. At any rate, she did nothing at all to try to accommodate me. My procedure takes two minutes with a freeze medication on the tip of my nose. Am I wrong to think she could at least have tried to contact the practice manager or SOMEONE who could squeeze me in.??? THO SHE SAID THE CORRECT WORDS, I FELT COMPLETE DISREGARD FOR MY PROBLEM. And no thanks I did not need her to make a new appointment for me. Went there for a dry skin condition and Dr. Dispaltro gave me some sample crews that did practically nothing, so when it didn't clear up I went back to him and he acted like he was annoyed I came back. Then he actually said that I shouldn't sneak off to a dermatologists without seeing my primary care doctor first, well excuse me but it was a skin condition and I don't need a referral through my insurance, so why would I pay a copay for nothing??? Is there a button for 0 stars!?! Dr. Joshua Fox treated me only once with a laser treatment for tattoo removal. I was absolutely shocked at his bedside manner. The exam was conducted prior to the treatment, and the assistant asked me to remove my clothes and don only a paper gown and underwear. He rushed into the room speaking to the assistant, asked me two questions and then ripped the paper gown in half from my chin to my navel in an abrupt manner. Pointing out supposed problem areas to his assistant, he then started asking me what "work" I wanted, suggested numerous treatments, to which I firmly replied that I was only there for a simple tattoo laser treatment and was happy with my body just as it was. He said with reference to a minor scar, "We will see how you feel about that in a few years." And exchanged a glance with the intern/assistant. He was rude, arrogant, insulting and insensitive. I will never see him again. I feel so sorry for each and every one of his patients, not to mention his staff. What a creeper. read more

This place I have "TRIED" to work with numerous times...there is no end to the grief......(either the office in Setauket or the West Islip one) I have had my mom and two of my kids use the doctors here for 2 plus years. I have never seen a place so ineffectively run from doctors to staff. The doctors are nice but they can't solve problems...then they re-issue same meds over and over again. I would have to say I have had to re-call in prescriptions 20 times as my plan does not cover the meds they prescribe...a few mistakes?..sure...EVERY time....it is simply amazing.... ...the staff will tell you "we never got it"...or some other made up line. I once had a lady from CVS on one phone telling me she received a fax for a drug from the West Islip office and as usual it wasn't covered...as I am talking to her I call up the office on my cell (now have 2 phones on both ears and both parties can hear each other)...and the lady from A.D. states over and over.."we did not send any drug prescription over"?...I tell her...listen I have CVS on the other phone line who can hear you....and the CVS lady gives her the whole fax # which was received....and STILL there was denials form A. P. until she looked into my daughters chart and saw it was requested...(This has happened FIVE times alone)..My poor mom has been there often for a skin rash..she was assigned the same drug THREE times while telling her it was all new prescriptions..even HER pharmacy...Target was amazed about how poorly run the office is....... went to the office in albertson. was greeted by a stone faced receptionist. once seen by the doctor (dr. applebaum), he didn't actually examine me. just listened to my issue, prescribed meds, and interrupted me everytime i asked a question. he left in less than 3 minutes. i had many more issues to discuss with him, but he was so cold and uninviting that i was uncomfortable.i will be questioning the charges on my insurance because he did not examine me and shouldn't be charging my insurance for doing so. will not be returning. read more

If I could have given a "minus star" rating, I would have. The problem is NOT with the dermatologists/surgeons, but with the billing procedures. After receiving numerous bills for services rendered, it became MY responsibility to inform the office AGAIN of my dual insurance coverage (both of which the doctors/surgeons participate). I received 'FINAL NOTICE OF COLLECTION PROCEEDINGS" and after calling the billing department AGAIN, was told to "disregard the letter" and "throw it in the trash" . It is an INSURANCE balance (not a personal balance) I was incorrectly billed for, before the secondary carrier even considered the claim! How can a patient be comfortable with the care they are entrusting to the facility, with the possibility of being sent to collection lingering after every visit as a result of THEIR incompetency ?! I'm sure the doctors are unaware of this, because if they were aware, the billing staff would be unemployed. I will NOT be returning to this office for any treatment or care in the future....I will be using an office that I can be assured will not bill me incorrectly, and will bill my insurance carriers correctly BEFORE sending ME any kind of bill. WHAT STANDARD OF CARE IS THIS IF A PATIENT IS UNDER SO MUCH STRESS DUE TO INCORRECT AND INCOMPETENT BILLING PRACTICES ?! The name of this place, Advanced Dermatology, implies that if you get treated here, you get state of the art care. Very, very wrong in my view.. My case became a complete nightmare. I have a chronic problem, very common to men , where a small pimple or benign cyst grows in the back of my neck. A very routine procedure and easy procedure, would be to have the cyst removed. This time around, I visited this office and was seen by a Dr Depaltra, who actually saw me for not more than 5 physical minutes. He gave me a simple cortisone shot and advised me to let it heel. I explained to him that this is chronic. It MUST be removed in order for the possibility to not grow back. He agreed and advised to make an appointment again where at that time he would be doing so. I waited for around one month. The cyst had pussed out and all there was to do now was for it to be drained and removed in one more visit. I visited Advanced Dermatology again, upon which they charged me another $40 dollar co-pay on top of the insurance reimbursement they received., 500+ dollars spend later on something as simple as a large pimple, I am back to Advanced Dermatology now ready for the small cyst to be removed. I asked the doctor to remove the cyst because it was pussed out and it as no longer necessary to wait . He saw me not more than 3 minutes, literally. His advice again was to wait another month to have it heel completely, At this time , he advised we will just drain it. But Dr Depaltra, I said, "This is going on now for 2 months and you keep telling me to wait another month. He said, he would rather wait again . I was perplexed coming home with a cyst still not being taken care of and already having spend hundreds of dollars. I felt ripped off and this office using delay tactics to milk my insurance for all it is worth. This is common by doctors offices. That is why insurance companies do what is called 'risk adjustment reviews" to insure that they are paying on behalf of their members the proper amount to the provider. like Advanced Dermatology. Patients who do not understand procedure, just like taking your car to an unknown mechanic, are at the mercy of the so called "expert doctor' who wants the best for you. People fall victims to such places because they do not understand, that the primary reason for these places to exist is to charge top dollar. and to milk the insurance for all it is worth once you are in their system. That is why it is impossible to have health insurance today. That is exactly what I believe this practice did with me and most likely does with countless of other patients.. Advanced Dermatology hides behind a futuristic, high tech name implying to consumers that they provide top of the line care,.and people literally flock there. I say, hog wash! Your primary care physician on small issues like mine could take care of issues like at a smaller cost and at a quicker turn around healing time. In my case, I followed up with the office the following 3 days and I spoke to the office manager by the name of Donna. I advised her that the doctor had done a lousy job of taking care of my problem. i wanted to come in have another doctor remove the cyst but NOT charge me again for something that should have been taken care of in the first place. I felt ripped off by this place. She argued with me that I could come in but they will not do it without another co-pay and insurance reimbursement. That is when I got really ticked off. . I felt completely like a fool, being an educated health care professional, that this lady was interested in continuously milking my insurance and myself rather than taking care of my problem. I was flabbergasted at her answer. as we argued over the phone . She even went ahead of diagnosing my problem, without having doctor's expert knowledge. An office manager telling me what proper procedure is on behalf of a physician is completely unethical, unprofessional and unacceptable I said no way! I want you to take care of my problem. You already have gotten paid by my insurance for this tenfold. I am NOT coming back for another $40 co-pay gig. It was obvious that it was all about MONEY. Advanced Dermatology wanted my money . NOT to take care of my problem.. She hung up the phone on me. For consumers that do not know what they are getting themselves in, beware that just because it is a doctor's office doesn't mean that they are there to watch out for your best interest. Advanced Dermatology is advanced at ripping people off as much as possible especially if they have good insurance in my expert opinion as a health care professional and manager. . The doctor was rude, condescending, dismissive, talked over me, and spent no more than five minutes in the room. He didn't even attempt to offer a solution to my dry and itchy skin, only telling me to use moisturizer. I don't even know his name because he never introduced himself. I hired doctor joshua fox to reduce the appearance of my facial acne scars via a laser procedure after he stated to me that he could reduce the appearance of all my facial acne scars from all angles. Soon after doctor joshua fox performed that laser procedure on my face I was still able to see all of my facial acne scars PLUS a big divot on my face that was caused by a stitch that he had put in to my face while I was asleep during anesthesia. I asked doctor joshua fox why he put that stitch in to my face but doctor joshua fox never told me why because he said he could not remember why. Doctor joshua fox then told me he could reduce the appearance of that divot and the appearance of my facial acne scars with a different laser. I again trusted him and the size of that divot on my face went from being big to being huge. Doctor joshua fox not only made me look worse but he thus also wasted my time and money.
